I was dragged to the Asian food Market today by my parents. They've got food from...everywhere.
& I was peacefully walking down a random aisle, when, suddenly a bunch of people come up to me and start speaking rapidly in, what seemed to be, Korean? ;o /NOTKOREAN/

Apparently I'm mistaken as Korean a lot. o_______o;;

So, this got me thinking;;

Can you tell the difference between Asians? Like Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, etc.
If so, How?
What distinguishes one from the other?
Has anyone ever mistaken you as a different ethnicity?

Personally, I can't tell the difference. Everyone looks the same to me

i can tell the difference between some.
Filipino's mostly have tanned skin
Japanese sounds like kinda simple
Chinese language, sounds more complacated and loud
I think korean and japanese sound very alike tho.

but i do get mistaken a lot, everytime when i go an asian food market, people start talking to me in chinese, and i just stand there looking confused. (im half filipino)

    I'm terrible at telling other Asians apart. I'm lucky if I can point out Indians and I am Indian (I'm far worse at pointing out Chinese, but I'm only a very little Chinese, so it's less disgraceful). sweatdrop The only sure way for me to guess is by either the language (if he or she speaks their native language) or by the surname and I can usually distinguish between Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

    I'm rather grateful for being half-Black and half-Asian because I'm less likely to have people attempt to start conversations with me in Asian languages I don't understand due to my reddish tan skin tone. I was so relieved that an Asian woman at Baker's yesterday didn't start speaking to me in Mandarin or something when she asked me for help with one of their machines because I could tell from her accent that English wasn't her first language (I'm normally good with technology, but I couldn't figure out what the problem was, so I had to tell her I didn't work there 'cause I don't). I also don't have to worry about having my ethnicity be mistake but, even though the other Black kids can tell I'm not fully Black because my facial features are more Asian, but for some reason they always guess Japanese gonk

Lawl. I guess another problem I have is that I have a Korean Surname.
Apparently, my dad's English was so horrible at the time, that he had to ask the lady at the desk [for all that citizenship stuff] to spell his name for him.
xDD;;;;;

I have trouble telling other asians apart sometimes. >_< I'm Filipino and I've been mistaken as Viet a few times. I look nothing like a Viet person, no offense. :]

I can tell their difference by either their facial expression or their accent. Most people think that I am Chinese, but I am Korean...
