The trailer was ok but its a whole lot of nothing. Though, it does make me excited that they have committed to the project because deep down inside me I just knew they were going to cancel the film at the very last minute. Now they can't!

Yes, that bit of info is false.

The rumour I heard was that Ben Afflek was considered for the role of Captain Kirk. Of course, he wasn't. I guess I'll post the cast list for all of you.

Zachary Quinto: Mr. Spock

Leonard Nimoy: older Mr. Spock

Chris Pine: James T Kirk

Eric Bana: Nero (villain)

Karl Urban: Dr. Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy

Simon Pegg: Montgomery ‘Scotty’ Scott

John Cho: Hikaru Sulu

Anton Yelchin: Pavel Chekov

Zoe Saldana: Uhura

Bruce Greenwood: Capt. Christopher Pike

Ben Cross: Sarek

Winona Ryder: Amanda Grayson

Chris Hemsworth: George Samuel Kirk Sr.

Jennifer Morrison: Winona Kirk

Clifton Collins, Jr.: General Ayel

Rachel Nichols: Unknown Orion

Tyler Perry: Starfleet Academy Chief

There you go. Personally, I think these guys will do just fine. But that's just me. biggrin

Well, the visual quality of that little clip is encouraging, but...wasn't the Enterprise constructed in vacuum in Earth orbit? I thought the principle was that kind of ship couldn't survive entry into the atmospere.

Maybe I'm confused.

That's kind of a fanon thing. There's nothing in the actual canon that says that parts of the Enterprise couldn't have been built on earth. They also explained on Trekmovie.com that you'd want to establish a natural feeling of gravity inside the ship, using the proper gravity well your going to be working in, rather than creating a fake field and having to calibrate everything in space. It would also properly balance the warp nacelles of the ship, which need to help warp the space around the ship. So, It's just easier to build some of it on earth, with a good gravity well.

So, yeah. lol. But a lot of that thinking is kind of part of their creative license. They just had to make some calls, but they used the canon to really help them make those calls.
