TheDisreputableDog What rites of passage have you undergone? Baptism, Marriage, Sisterhood, Balval Suno (establishing my position within my family), I formally observed Shul Bresh Saydiba (a ritual honoring of those who have passed)... oh yeah, and birth. wink
Quote: What rites of passage does your family observe? Births, deaths, the establishment of new branches of a family, brotherhood/sisterhood, marriage, baptism, different roles within the family being assumed etc.
Quote: What rites of passage does your tradition observe? Those above, plus kris.
Quote: Where did these rites come from? The bulk of them are natural expressions of human interaction and family relations. Baptism was likely a purification rite that was merged with Christian traditions during slavery.
Quote: Why do you perform/undergo them? Couple reasons- one, I like a good party. Second, I like to honor my family and those I love- sometimes this is done through celebration. Third, it adds to family luck.
Quote: What rites of passage do you think modern society observes? Well, birth, marriage, death, some birthdays and the entitlements that go with them are honored- such as a 21st and 18th Birthdays.
