I think it was okay that L died because Near and Mello could succeed him.
Near looks soo much like L, and Mello takes risky moves to catch Kira.
If they were one person then they really would succeed L!
Thats just my opinon on L dying.

I heart Near and Mello, but L will always be #1. I am happy they have more interesting characters because it woulda been so boring if they didn't exist.

They're not as cool as L, but I'm glad they were there to take care of things. If they weren't, I probably would have abandoned the series.

When they first came around I hated them because they made Light look like an idiot. I'm not a Kira supporter, but I held Light at a higher standard than what those children played him as because he won over L.

But recently I started reading the manga over again, and watching the dub, and I've come to like characters that I previously disliked such as Misa, Mello, and Near.

When I saw that episode I thought he was faking it or something and he was going to get back up or something! D= That was so sad when he died ;.; -sob-

When I saw that episode and saw L's strange behavior even before the bells line I could tell that he would die. D:
The whole episode I was just going "No no no no, please stop you don't have to die L. Nononono..."

After reading the manga a second time I still don't like how Near does things, but if I think of it like Near and Mello playing a game with each other instead of Near using everyone, and Mello being desperate, then it isn't so bad.
