Blackrose Kaire I like that ad...Most of the ones now are just kinda stupid. Well it pretty much sums up, why if you liked manga back in the early-mid 90's, you were the coolest mother f**ker to walk the planet. We had none of this 'otaku'/'weeaboo' nonsense, it was just, gory, kick a**, ultra violent, cartoons from japan, that featured lesbian Japanese school girls with red and green hair in a post apocalyptic future Tokyo on the edge of a baron wasteland full of horny demons, where if a sentance wasn't complete without shouting some kind of profanity... THE HEAVY METAL DREAM!
Krypta9 Yeah..when I first read your post I was like wtf? Stupid. But I see what you mean, it works. Only with the old-ish ones, though, or really detailed ones. Like...fullmetal alchemist or pokemon or something, lol, that wouldn't be good. I'd say FMA, Bleach, Blood+ and things like that would work to be honest, its all about application. smile
And for those interested, the song is; The Heart Beneath by Celtic Frost.

Blackrose Kaire GilAskan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZexHjrBjuo lulz. But anyway- really, the nature of the series determines the music which would go best with it. Radiohead was sublime on the soundtrack of Ergo Proxy, but would be entirely inappropriate on the soundtrack to Inuyasha. A lot of anime would work with metal though. Too much of it is saturated with s**t j-pop. I agree it depends on the series, cause' I don't think something cutsey and adorable like Lucky Star would exactly work with that xd Unless this counts, which I don't think it does at all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2WzqVn5Ddk]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AdYd2PiLuY
Actually the dance segment of the lucky star intro... works with about 90% of heavy metal, we have an ongoing thing of it in the Stormbeard Guild and are compiling an extensive list of what works and what doesn't. Its quite scary listening to 'Jump da ******** up' by Soulfly and seeing the lucky star characters dance in sync to it.
And Come to Daddy by Aphex Twin (the song in the second amv) works with anything... yes even care bears. razz

I always preferred the cheesy 80's rock of Kageyama Hironobu, that guy really is the Stan Bush of Japan.
Anyway to the main point. You'd be surprised what works with which shows to be honest, I manage to convert Dragonball Z to look like a magical girl show with the Sailor Stars theme. I also made Card Captor Sakura look more violent then Devilman by setting it to some Morbid Angel, it all comes down to skill of the video editor to be honest.
The reason however, I think that Manga trailer is above that, is because it really does epitomise what anime was about at the time, not just anime, but the 80's - 90's as a whole, with films like Total Recall, Demolition Man, End of Days, Blade Runner, Lady Hawke, Willow, etc. Manga entertainment had locked onto its target audience perfectly, it was the there and then, where as these days, you have the purists screaming at people, because a sentence that says basically the same think, isn't exactly the same as the direct translation, regardless of having to make the words fit the mouth movements. It was a thrilling curio, from a time of motion picture excess, in content, visuals and even philosophical musings.
Though I agree about the j-pop thing, there are plenty of excellent Japanese rock and metal bands, but then again, they just aren't part of zeitgeist in this day and age. Oh how I long for the days when I'd pass another nerd in the streets and be able to shout "GUYYYYYYYVER!" or "TETSUOOOOOOOOO!" and have him respond in kind whilst onlookers looked at us as if we were possessed.
