What is 'EV training'?
Well, it is a way to make your pokemon better at what it does by training one or more of its stats specifically. See, every time you defeat a pokemon, the pokemon that where used in battle against that pokemon get a certain amount of EV points in one or more of their stats. And once you get four points in a specific stat, that stat increases by 1. However, each pokemon can only have a total of 510 EV points. And never more than 255 EV points in one stat.
So, if for example you want to increase your pokemons special attack, you need to go out and find pokemon that only gives EV's in that stat, in this case Ghastly/Haunter/Gengars are perfect.
