Had I known you needed one, I would have given the Gengar it as a hold item.

However, hope is not lost, see all you need to do is the following:

Find a pokemon with the Pick-up ability. Level it past level 40, the higher the better. Keep it in your party (at the end), then run around doing wild battles or re-challenging trainers. Every five battles or so, check the pick-upper and it will likely hold an item. If the pick-upper is at least level 41, there is a pretty good chance that the item held is either a Dawn, Dusk, or Shiny Stone. (could also be a rare candy or something else entirely).

My personal favourite pick-upper is Linoone, but that is mostly because it learns Covet by level up. ^^
