Okay...

The dilemma:

I have shoulder length, fine, pale gold hair in shaggy layers. Recently I've added black streaks, but they will fade in time and my hair does not take all-over color well (even permanent color tends to fade and is difficult to maintain and so is not an option). My hair is an absolute pain and I am at my wits end for finding ways to make it look nice, much less nice and gothic.

What do ye goths of dark hair suggest for us blondies? What do ye other blonde goths suggest?

Hell, keep it blonde. There have been tons of blonde goths historically.

Dinah Cancer of influential death-rock group .45 Grave-

Budgie and Steve Severin of Siouxsie and the Banshees, the second best-selling goth group of all time-

Gitane Demone, keyboardist behind famous goth groups Christian Death, the Shadow Project, and Rozz Williams (solo)-

Et' cetera, et' cetera.

Blonde hair is a striking (and very pretty) contrast to all-black outfits, and a strong compliment to all-white outfits.

If you are really set on dying it, I suggest you consider white. Not platinum blonde, but real white hair. It's very ethereal looking, almost supernatural. It can be very pretty.

Thanks, GilAskan. I'm not looking to change the color (I've tried that a few times and it did not work out well...) I'm more looking for attractive ways of styling it, when I want to go out and looked pulled together (instead of my usual scruffy mess). Something elegant to go with that corset I've been thinking about wearing.

If you want something nice and elegant, I suggest very buoyant curls. You know, the bouncy, somewhat loose curls.

Well, I can't imagine it would be easy to do, it would probably invovle more hair gel then you ever wanted to see in your entire life, but I've seen people slick back the most of their hair and take the front parts, you know, they wispy bits that fall out of ponytails (uh, bangs, right. Duh.) And put them into tight, coin-sized curls flat on their head. I'll try to find a picture, this description is a bit lacking.
It's in about half a dozen historical romances... just think Jane Austen.

rock on! very cool. Jane Austen's not really my style, but if I used it as a base...the possibilities are endless. If anyone has any tips on how to make really fine hair behave, those would be appreciated as well.

Just leave your hair color the same! I still have my natural color combined with real dreadlocks. A thing you can do is cut your hair in a nice way(long, short, with fringe of without, curls, straight or something else) and style it.

I think blonde can look more goth than black alot of the time.

Just go for something either very scruffy or very elegant and classy.

I'd love to have blonde hair personally. razz

But you could try lots of things with your hair. Bangs, hair extensions, back combing etc...

I have the exact same problem with dying my hair. No matter what color I'm doing it NEVER stays in. EVER. It's so annoying. I even went to a salon this last time so it would look halfway decent. I told them that my hair is kind of stupid and doesn't take color very well, but they said that since my hair was bleached they would just start everything over and use a virgin application of permanent black hair dye. So I figured that that was a kind of smart thing to do so I paid them way more money than anyone should ever pay anyone else for anything in their in entire lives, and what happened? The ******** dye came out. So now instead of having the pretty black hair I wanted, I now have dark brown hair with random spots of really light brown hair. It looks ridicules and I am SO pissed off you cannot even begin to imagine. So now I'm going to be really cool again and go back to Wal-mart to get some $2.00 hair dye thats going to fry my hair until it all falls out. ^_^

I have blond hair too! biggrin

Personally, I'm planning on dying it for a while, just for fun, but I still like blond.

Being a male, and having short hair, I really can't help you much with your hair styling. sad

I like straight hair, really.
