They don't go by sizes, at least for bassoon.
It's a double reed, so therefor the thickness is developed by "soft", "medium-soft", "medium", "medium-hard", and "hard".
Medium would be the size three in that respect, but for double-reed instruments they follow that vocabulary.

I like a hard reed. They hold up better for me and give me a more consistant tone. For oboe I like a hard reed, for clarinet I usually play a 3.5.
