Watching Harry Potter..
is it bad for a Christian?
Since it includes wizards, witches, and magic
which comes from Satan.

The crappy re-creation of witchcraft in Harry Potter is no-where near to the real thing. They took most of the words from Latin, and If you wave a stick and say those words it will do nothing.

I've seen real witchcraft. That isn't it.

Anyways, it's just a fantasy book. Let me say it again. F-A-N-T-A-S-Y B-O-O-K.

It's make believe.

The only time something like that in movies and books is bad for a Christian's spiritual health is when it begins to interfere in what you believe. Clearly our only strength comes from God; believing it comes from anywhere else can be dangerous. 3nodding

Harry Potter is like anything like that (DaVinci Code, etc). As long as you accept it a FICTION it doesn't really matter.

I never understood why people go all worked up over it and stuff like that.

Like this girl who told me Pokemon was evil when I was like... eight. Even as an eight year old I thought that was ridiculous.

Actually, the spell name origins can be found here. None of them come from real witchcraft. cool

... i was gonna say something deep and meaningful on the subject, but its all been said already!
...drat...
i WILL say that the real books with a message to beware of is the His Dark Materials series.
*POSSIBLE HP SPOILER*...and that the HP books (which happen to be some of my favorites) have a nice message of good over evil. ^^

As soon as Harry Potter starts affecting what you believe, then yes, it is bad. But different people have different struggles. And I am able to see Harry Potter as fiction, it isn't a struggle for me, I love the books.

Hey there all. i dont want to seem like a party spoiler. But i'm going to put in my two cents that i've read and learnt aye.

Yes Harry Potter is a fiction book, i get that, it makes no matter.
But I give J K Rowling her dues, she did her research well.
I'm searching for a few reports i read months ago about Harry Potter and a Christian view upon it.

But until i find them, heres just a thought.

God condemned witchcraft. (in Nahum 3:4-5)
If harry potter causes your beliefs to waver and you to stray from God it is definitely not something good.

But yes it is fiction and for now thats all i've got. once i find this other stuff. i'll get back to you guys.
hope i didnt kill a party or anything.

Bless Yas

If kids are a big fan of the series and consider harry potter to be a hero, that can present some problems if there parent are christian and trying lead there kids in the direction of god.

Harry Potter said he does not believe in god in the book.

Harry Potter is fine. I've watched it a billion times and there is nothin wrong. ^^
Yeah, it has witchcraft, but I really wasn't offended by it.
Very good series.
