I was having a chat today with a few of my classmates about yoghurt and everytime I mentioned the word, they looked at me as if I have 100 heads. Apparently, I pronounce it as "your-gut" but I don't see the "proper" way of pronouncing it. How do the rest of you say it and what is the 'correct' was of doing so?

YOH-gut. Like on that advert with the American guy who can't pronounce it. Some cereal. And in America yo-gurt.

Ok..is that the proper way or just the way it's generally said?

'Yoggut', is a close approximation of my pronunciation if that counts for anything.
American types say yo-girt, apparently.

Why yes we do.
It sounds like yo-gir (the t is barely pronounced). At least in Florida : )
