It's fun to play guitar. But trying to teach it to someone else is HARD. My little bro wants to learn guitar, so I told him that I'd teach him, and I told him all the keys at least seven times, and we practiced for about an hour, and he still doesn't get it.

[~I~hopexyouxget~fat~] It's fun to play guitar. But trying to teach it to someone else is HARD. To some people, learning an instrument is harder to learn. Some people just get it naturally & some don't. I kinow it may seem hard but the best thing I can say is be patient for a while. You never know, he might surprize you one day.

I agree. being patient with teaching someone to play guitar isn't easy, but it's worth it. teaching will also help you get better as well. I'm not saying that you're no good but just tryin' to say that a teacher can still be a student. and yeah maybe one day your bro will pick up the guitar and you'll go, "whoa. . . "

maybe you need to dumb it down more. teach him to play the first four frets back ad fourth then go into the other stuff.

I know it is so hard to understand, for example I don't know how some people can't have any rhythm at all as it just came naturally to me. With guitar as it uses notes, I found a really good teaching technique is singing. It may sound silly but it makes sense. If you can't sing the note you want to play in your head then how can you play it on your instrument. Guitar also needs rhythm, so i suggest starting him on basics of music rather than basics of guitar. Once he has that grasp of how music works then he should understand the guitar more. Also if you can read music then teach him to do that as well. It would make his life much easier if he wanted to carry it on. Also try going onto the internet and look for some different and effective techniques to use whilst teaching him. Teaching is a fun when you get the hang of it, but it is a damn hard thing to get the hang of. I was told that by an incredible lecturer and chief of music at the RSAMD! I will never forget that.

Oh, man.
I've been there.
Like, I've been told I'm insanely good at the Piano for my age. And everyone's like, "Teach me something!" And I think of something easy. I teach them for about 45 minutes, then the person goes.. "Wait, how do you know what key to press, and if you're pressing the right key?"

I have tried teaching people. One of my friends got it right away and had hardly any trouble getting started. Another friend I just wanted to break the guitar over his head. I taught myself..i just picked up a guitar and started goofing off, and got pretty good in no time. I have one friend who has played for 8 years and I have only been playing about 3, and Im uber better than him. lol

I teach piano & guitar lessons - Some kids definitely get it faster than others! I just try it from another angle, sometimes that helps. Plus a little patience because eventually if they're actually practicing and trying it will click!

*Smacks forehead* ROFL wow, Ive been there. sometimes ppl want to learn an instrument just to learn, they're not like us that love music and our instruments. besides its hard to learn for someone that doesnt have the "musical ear"
