Not Our Time
Lord I’m tired of wishing for an answer to my prayers
When at night I’m waiting, hoping you are there
Why, when my hands are clasped before me, do my words never reach your ears
And why when I’m sobbing on my knees, do you blatantly ignore my tears?
I live this life to serve you well, earn my place as a devoted heir
To have your voice echo in my heart, stand in heaven boldly as I dare
You see, even I who follow, obedient in the Master’s gaze
Cannot fathom a perfect world, by His grace I stand amazed
Lost in the wilderness, no footsteps parallel to my side
Where are your arms when I need someone in which I can confide
My faith dwindles, my beloved Savior, is there no way to lend your hand
No, of course, your eyes have turned, from your presence I am banned
This, the story of too many lives, where worries never leave the room
Behind a stifling mask we’ll hide ‘til guilt and shame consume
We, your beloved children, have fallen so far from your grace
But oh my dear Father, we simply long to see your face
Shining tears will fall to mingle with the suicide’s razor blade
Because between the heart and pain there is no barricade
The weight of one frail girl will drop, lulled by perfection’s appeal
How long before she’s carried home, before she finds the strength to kneel
What of this man of God, I ask, clutching tight to a rosary
Who has never touched one small boy, yet the collar won’t let folks see
And the wolves who come to tempt your flock, lead newborn sheep astray
Then blind them with so many fears of tomorrow they can’t envision today
Your answer comes to me in a dream, rolling thunder soft as snow
When a gentle kiss creases my brow and I am told “It’s not your time to know”
The mountains are too high, my lord, the valleys are too wide
“It is not your time to cross, my son, by My calendar you’ll abide”
“Happiness cannot come in an instant, neither all your prayers in a year
Everything you ask will not be granted, many more pleas reach My ear
Still that you are precious in My sight, oh beloved kingdom son
Measure the years as I do, and you will know the time has not yet come”
