Does anyone know greek reliably?
I need some words translated into greek, and I have a feeling that the words I got from an online translator aren't going to cut it....

Fire - Hephaestos ( I know its correct, but is there a less...godly...word for it?)
Earth - Gaea ( as above)
Air - Truphao
Water - Acheloios (as with fire and earth)

Mother - Meter
Father - Phitus
Thanks - Locheios
Protect - Kalupto
Bring - Didomi
Protection - Theios
Peace - Eukolos
Unto - Autekoos
Strife - Hamothi
Discomfort - Aseros
Fortune - Lexis
Loving - Philargeios

If anyone can help me verify if these are good or not when praying to Greek dieties, it would be of much help! smile

ancient greek (usually attic) or modern greek? Also, usually, words depended on context.

...with the exception of a few phrases, I don't use any greek. I have enough issues with Latin.

To be honest, Greek scares me. I'm much more comfortable with Latin. Probably because I took two years of it in high school.

Aw, I like greek.

Anyway, I like this one, personally: http://www.kypros.org/cgi-bin/lexicon/

It gives a number of words, though I believe they're in a more modern greek.

One of my friends is a classics major and, as such, has taken a few years now of ancient Greek.

When he's back from his Spring Break Tour of Europe '07 I'll run these by him, if no one else has stepped up to the plate (eg, Nuri).

Well, modern or not, i think its probably the thought that counts. Otherwise they've been wondering why so many people have been praying to them in a language they don't understand, eh? razz
