Commenting on Azure's comment--> Yeah, Wes was definitely based off of Roddenberry. But if you notice, that stray from the original Wesley begins around the time of Roddenberry's death. And I can definitely agree- if a teenage boy were to take my chance at a position on the bridge of the Enterprise, I'd be pissed off.

Crusher is weak. The whole idea of having a kid on the bridge of the flag ship of fleet makes it really hoaky. What were they thinking?

I am not a little kid, and the last time I checked, I'm sane, and I still like Wesley. TNG was such a good series that we need an awful character to bring it back in to the television. Without Wesley, TNG would be floating off in space.(Yay, Wesley saves the ship again!)

When I started watching Star Trek it was Next Generations and it was the later seasons but I remember watching reruns and seeing a young man on the TV, it was something that I enjoyed looking forward to was seeing those that were young on the cast of a Star Trek show. It was Wil Wheaton that started the spark to go into the different arts. But it wasn't till Manu Intiraymi, who was Icheb that I got into Theatre performaces and wanting to be an actor of some kind.
