i'm curious do people think in here that Anime is just popculture or does it have its own subculture. Personally I think its created its own subculture.

hmm, you can't say anime is a popculture because it varies too much. like music =o

Pop culture? Never that.

Anime fits in it's own culture. Anime dates back to years and years back....possibly before Americans created animation. I'm not too sure because i don't care about the history of American Animation but i do know Anime dates to decades ago. Unfortunately i started in the early 90's when OAV's were hot. Now it's all about 12 episode TV serieses.

I think you mistaken Anime for hip-hop music. Considering Pop music today has been disguising itself as hip hop music which i'm fully angered about.

American Animation came before Anime.

Anime was actually inspired by Disney Cartoons.

Thanks for that info. Amazingly i'm sure the anime industry is making more money than Disney itself today.

Ya but if you look at the still increasingly giant fan base of anime and manga it's almost impossible to say it's just pop-culture alone. I mean seriously giant is probably a huge understatment.

I think it would be hard to define what category that anime would go in. I mean, it's popular... But it's a cartoon. Just as America has it's (sometimes terribly drawn) cartoons, Japan has anime as its' regular cartoons. Then again, anime is much more popular than regular cartoons, its' population has spread worldwide. The actual argument on the matter could go on for hours if people knew all the points to push on the subject. But I don't, so I'm not going to go on explaining opinions that I have not fully developed.
