Today you are wearing a water-themed avatar, so I'll recommend The Lost City of Faar from the Pendragon series by D. J. MacHale.

since i have a hunch how much you like English Fantasy, i want to recommend a book i just rediscovered!

it's called "Peter and Wendy" by Barrie and is the original of Peter Pan, back from 1911.

it's somewhat different from the disney version; he calls the kids "brats" and gives a very grisly bloody death to many Indians as well as pirates.

and a major character dies!

It's not really a book, but I'd recommend Garth Nix's short story "Hope Chest." I thought of it because of the posh look, plus the gun. <3

because you are now on vacation, i recommend The Well at The World's End by William Morris because it is huge (two chunky volumes) and full of imaginative adventure, albeit written in an archaic style.

so it can occupy a rainy afternoon or two

Thanks for the list beaulolais! ^_^

I'll suggest the Percy Jackson series, because the main character is the son of Posiedon (water god). It's a GREAT series (just don't listen to the sound recording, the dude's Brittish accent makes d**k Van Dyke's sound perfect). I can't wait for the movie!

I think you might like the vegetarian vampire character in Michael Scott's The Alchemist. The book is an ok light read.

(Nice list, Beauloais, and I'm going to look for that original Peter Pan on Gutenberg tonight, thanks!)

staying with Roald Dahl, and because it's just now out on DVD, i'd suggest

The Fantastic Mr. Fox.

cleverly the author takes a traditional villain and makes him a sort of hero, without changing his character defects!

standing tall
Hmm. A very dark avatar. With wings and a bat. Perhaps... Poe? One of my favorite stories by him is The Tale of Doctor Tarr and Professor Feather. It's a dark little tale, but not as gruesome as some of his other work.

Or, for a book, Dhampir. It's an AWESOME book about a dhampir - that is, a half human half vampire - who hunts vampires.

on the wings of my dreams

and so i would suggest Emma.
