This is dedicated to my father.

Tomorrow is another day
To many and a selected few
Tomorrow is any other day
But to me . . . it is not new

I was nine and you were working
Downstairs, as usual
Your government job, stressing on you
You stood up from your chair
For something so very simple

You step away from your chair
Leaving it pushed out to the side,
As you always do
To go upstairs and use the bathroom

Nothing too extravagant, by any means
But it seemed that it was too much
And your string was pulled
God called for you
Knocking you on your back.

Quietly you whispered out
Your wife’s name
I awake from bed, hearing your cries
I held onto the cast – iron railing
To the bottom of the stair

There you were,
My daddy,
On the floor
Hardly able to breath
Requesting my mommy

That night, I barely remember
What followed after
My ‘discovery’
Except that I retrieved my mommy

Who dialed 9 – 1 – 1
But time grew short
And God summoned you away
My daddy, dead on this day.

I dreaded October First
For years after you died
I would skip out on school
The pain was there
And I couldn’t let it go

Middle school came
In my seventh grade year
I turned my tides and arrived
Early to school that day

Time changed.
I’m in college now
I still take photographs
Almost as good as you

And I wonder . . .
What life would of like,
If you still lived.

Without ‘goop’ dinners
Served once a week.
Would I have met my best friend
And love in June of last year?

Would you have let me date
When I was sixteen?
Only God knows the truth
And the lady luck has spun her wheel

I’m in college now
Because of the money
You left for me
I’ll be able to get my degree

I celebrate your death
Because it’s your chance
To start a new
Welcome to another world
Dear father

You’ve left behind so much
But gave us a lot more
You took care of us and made me see
That life goes on
From here on to eternity.

To you, I celebrate.

Notes: It may sound depressing, but after you finish reading it is up lifiting. I thought at least. This is one of my more recent works, being written just last month. It is based on true past events to current ones now, I must say that because of my father and of a car accident where I helped out the victim I have found my calling in life in massage therapy and later work as an EMT. That's about it. Thanks for baring with me and my long-winded-ness x3.
