Okay, so suppose you've always felt that ordinary life is better than cable. Suppose you're accustomed to 'seeing' people surrounded by shapes, colors, images- sometimes even sounds or smells or textures too. Suppose further that you've always felt that these images/perceptions give you insight into the people you see.

Suppose you're totally secretly me.

Is it preternatural awareness, synaesthesia, or a simple attack of the crazy fluffies? I've tended to be fairly secretive about these 'perceptions'- if such they be- because people's reactions have been split. Some give me the 'Hmmmkay' response, and some are like 'OMG I totally read about this in Silver Ravenwolf or Cunningham or Llwellyn or sommat'. Either way it doesn't look good for me, does it?

One of my friends from the Vortex Camp had this to say:

Notice what you notice, and let it go.

Weird s**t is all around us. Being aware of it doesn't make you a fluffy. Turning it into some dramatic production for attention would make one a Dramawhore.

I can understand your desire not to talk about it. Perhaps that's for the best. What biz is it of anyone elses anyway?

Generally speaking, it's not anyone's business- but a couple of my close friends knew about it and told a whole bunch of people, which in turn got me thinking.

If you are worried about perceptions of others- you can always tell the unwashed masses not to listen to rumor and gossip. ~shrugs~

Strikes me as odd that you'd tell someone who couldn't keep a secret. But then, that's just me- and is in no way a reflection on you or your friends.

The short answer to the whole question is: No. It doesn't make you a fluffy to experience things outside of the primary five senses.

What you do with that experience may or may not make you a fluffy. But that's beyond the scope of information before me.

I don't think they realized it was supposed to be a secret. It was one of those *facepalm* *stammer* moments.
Mostly I file it all away in the back of my head for future reference.

So there's nothing to worry about eh?

I have 'hallucinations' quite often... only I wouldn't call it a good thing. It is when half of my vision goes totally blurry, or people and things start glowing...quite literally. Or I can smell burning rubber or something else just as obnoxious that no one else can smell....Or geometric patterns start ocsillating and invading my vision... a line in my vision begins throbbing to the beat of my heart..

but that isn't "supernatural" I get all of those because I have migraines. When it first started popping up I considered that it might be something "weird" and "occultish" but it wasn't. It almost turned into a drama fest... mostly because my mother thought I was possessed or something. Then I saw a doctor about it, then a migraine specialist. It's nice to get answers.

I don't think you are a fluffy for sharing or admiting your abilities. I agree with TeaDidikai that it would be best to acknowledge them and move on. Not turning it into a drama fest.

Yeah, that does tend to happen. Generally if you make outrageous claims, some people are going to look at you funny. There are those who, when you tell these sorts of things, will flat out disbelieve you since they don't believe in those sorts of abilities to begin with. From there the might see claiming some sort of ability you don't actually possess as some ego-trip or misplaced need to make yourself more 'special' than everyone else. There are probably people who claim powers for this reason; in which case some probably *could* call them fluffy or outright disbelieve their claims.

Just a suggestion... for those you *do* talk to this stuff about, play it safe and make the obvious clear. It *should* be obvious that since these sorts of magical things aren't exactly accepted by mainstream society that you don't go opening your yak about it to just anybodyif someone tells you about their abilities. Sometimes what's obvious to us isn't so obvious to others. confused
