I'm just wondering if there are any particular foods out there, which should be avoided to lose weight.

Please don't say the obvious, like Mcdonalds, Burger King, etc.

There's no particular food to avoid, as long as you know how much fiber, fat, and calories are in whatever you do choose to eat, and eat in proper portions. For example, a pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream isn't a single serving, it's four servings. An entire sleeve of Ritz crackers or Oreos isn't one serving -- one serving is about four crackers or two cookies. Read the package labels carefully.

Of course, you'll lose faster AND healthier if you eat fresh or fresh-frozen fruits and vegetables, whole grain breads and pastas, brown rice, a little dairy each day, a little protein each day. If you eat 1000 calories a day of healthy foods, you lose weight faster than if you eat 1000 calories of junk food.

That, and healthier foods have less calories, so you're more filled up, anyway. :]

Soda, Whole Milk, Fatty Meats, Coffee. You know what I did that helped? I got a weight watchers food guide. It can tell you how many 'points' food is. You don't have to join to get their books. Plus, you can get into better eatting habits using their ideas.

Avoid highly processed foods, which I'm sure you already know.
Whole grains are the way to go, and opt for low fat gronala cereal instead of the regular cheerios in the morning. More calories, I know, but it's far more better for you and it tastes great with raisins biggrin

I have this huge problem with questions like this because you get people who will say things like "as far as vegetables go, don't eat carrots because they have a lot of sugar!".

I mean honestly...

Just try to avoid packaged and prepared foods. Don't eat out, because restuarants add lots of fats to foods to get them to taste good. They'll even fry meats in pure butter. My brother's a famous chef, I know the lowdown.

Try to make food yourself, because then you know what goes into it and you can leave things out if you feel you don't need it.

I think though, the most important thing is to understand serving sizes. I was pretty shocked when I learned a while back that the nutritional value on bread is for only one slice. And hey... I'd been eating two all this time. It's little things like that. If your tortilla chips say 15 pieces is a serving, don't have an entire bowl.

Coffee isn't bad though... coffee loaded with cream and sugar is, but not coffee.

one cup, that's right, a whole cup of coffee only has 2 calories. It will vary on where the coffee was grown, but not by much.
