Pornograpic album? xd
The Cure released a goth rock album called Pornography, yes, but I don't recall the lyrics being erotic or pornographic.

Also, their albums Seventeen Seconds and Faith (I've only heard the latter) can be considered goth rock.

I have a question why is Slipknot (not that I listen to it) not classified "Gothic Music"?

...because they aren't.

"Goth music" is a general term used to describe genres related to "goth-rock" (these include deathrock [not deathmetal], post-punk, ethereal, darkwave, dark cabaret, and more).

Goth-rock is its own individual genre with it's own characteristics.

Slipknot is not goth-rock, nor are they any of the related genres covered by the term goth-music. This is why they are not goth music.

Slipknot are nu-metal, a subgenre of metal which features:
-thrash style anthemic-choruses and guitars
-hardcore rap verses and drum beats
-electronic backbeats or mixes

Other bands of this genre include Mushroomhead, koRn, Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park. Nu-metal (or any genre of metal in general) has no relation to goth-rock.

"Goth band" is different than "goth rock band". A goth band is a band of goths, while a goth-rock band is one which preforms the goth-rock genre of music.

With this said, it can't be debated what bands are goth-rock or not, though, one could debate whether or not the band itself is goth.

Goth-rock bands (examples):
Bauhaus
Joy Division
The Cure
Siouxsie Sioux and the Banshees
The Damned
Christian Death
Sisters of Mercy
The Mission UK
The Church
New Model Army
Fields of Nephilim

Bands Commonly Called Goth-rock, but are not Goth-rock (examples):
Evanescence
Marilyn Manson
koRn
Tool
Slipknot
My Chemical Romance
Aiden
Rammstein
A Perfect Circle
AFI
Black Sabbath
Cradle of Filth
Nightwish
Nine Inch Nails

Tis' quite interesting thou would know so much about music. Just seeing all that different stuff confuses me, unfortunately.

Goth-rock is an actual genre, believe it or not.

It has it's own characteristics, boundaries, and elements.

Screamo isn't at all related, save for the distant punk roots.

Punk -> Hardcore Punk -> Emotive Hardcore (Emo) -> Screamo
Punk -> Post-punk -> Goth-rock

There's a lot of confusion around the genres, so I'll try to clear things up-

Emotive Hardcore (emo) was a subgenre of hardcore punk developed in the mid-80's, primarily in Washington DC. It's fundementals were all the same as those of hardcore, but featured intensely passionate lyrics. Major groups of the genre include: Rites of Spring, Moss Icon, Rain, Embrace, Jawbraker, pg. 99, Indian Summer, and Circle Takes Square.

Post-hardcore is also a subgenre. The term isn't meant to be a period of time, but an actual movement of music. Growing out of hardcore, post-hardcore had more traditional rock roots. It also took heavy influence from the grunge movement. Some notable bands include: Hawthorne Heights, Fugazi, Aiden, Emery, Silverstein, Alexisonfire, Chiodos, and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.

Screamo is a term of great dispute. There is no solidly agreed upon definition, though, some major definitions are- 1) A form of Emo characterized by aggresive screaming vocals 2) A form of post-hardcore with emo influence 3) A buzz word; not an actual genre, but just a term people use for bands that scream.

Where does the confusion begin?

The confusion comes from a number of places.

1) People keep using "post-hardcore" as an umbrella term for all genres that came out of hardcore. It's innaccurate. Post-hardcore is a genre, not an era or all-encompassing term.

2) People commonly misuse "emo". To this day, most people think many post-hardcore and pop-rock bands (such as Hawthorne Heights and Fall Out Boy, respectively) are of the emo genre. This largely stems from the false statement that "emo" is short for "emotional".

Oh, okay! I didn't know that post-hardcore was an actual sub-genre; but it makes a lot more sense considering post-rock and such. x] Thanks a lot for clearing that up.

It's part of metal by proxy and evolution. It's sound isn't the purest example of the metal genre, but key characteristics are present.

There was a long, pointless argument about the validity of nu-metal and rap-metal a few months back. Let's not start another.

but this time i have proof, unlike last time.

Nu Metal follows the 12 bar blues. That means that Nu metal uses chord progressions between perfect 5ths instead of basing their riffs off of the Modes.

Examples are
Nu metal (chords)

c5 g5 c5 d5 c5 c5

Metal (chords)
c5 c5 d5 #d5 d5 d#5 c5

The Metal example follows what could either be the Dorian or Aeolian mode. The Nu Metal one is just the 5th incrimates after each 5 notes from C would be G and Five notes from G would be D.

Nu metal sometimes but not always disregards a bridge and Pre chorus. Metal that utalises the chorus tend to use a prechorus. Most Black and Death Metal also doesn't contain a pre Chorus but that is because unlike Prog, Power, Thrash, and Heavy, Black and Death Metal prefers to build there style off of progressing riffs instead of verses and choruses.

Some bands do use a Bridge (slipknot can be pointed out here some times this band crossese the line but usuay Slipknot strays away since they build theire songs off of verses and choruses with the lack of a pre chorus.)
