The first site wasn't hateful, so much as a place, much like our guild, for people to get together and discuss what they like.
There's nothing wrong with canon. Just cause we like yaoi and shonen-ai doesn't mean that other people aren't entitled to like het.

I don't get particularly offended by yaoi-hate sites so much as amused by them. What do they do really?

And I agree with what others have said, hating yaoi doesn't equal homophobe. Some hate yaoi because of the fangirls, some hate it because of its admittedly unrealistic elements (Oh, screw it, it's pure freakin' fantasy) and some hate it because of the cliche patterns that the worst yaois fall into and see it as a weak genre.
Though, the people who DO hate it just cause it's gay=st00pid, so whatever.
