MCR is okay, and I guess AFI's old stuff isn't horrible.
I do want to point out that absolutely none of these bands are Goth, though.
In fact, none of the bands listed in this entire thread are the least bit Goth.
Not that it isn't fine for you to like it, but I wanted to point that out, as you mentioned them selling "Goth" to the mainstream or something.

Indeed. While I have no problems with any of the bands musically (albeit, AFI in recent years has gone down in quality, in my opinion, and I've never particularly been a fan of either of the others), it can't be ignored that they have an impact on what mainstream America believes to be goth.
In the "Is Amy Lee a goth?" thread, many people asked "Whether or not she is, who cares? It's not important". In response to that, as well as this situation, I do believe it is important to the goth culture. Popular artists who are considered goth by the mainstream (Marilyn Manson being foremost, along with My Chemical Romance and Evanescence) seriously affect the goth culture.
The bands may not mean to do intentional harm to goth. But even if they aren't part of goth, their actions, presentations, and portrayals of themselves to the public will have a MASSIVE affect on the goth culture.
