I'm aware that it's probablyu been sorted out by now, but the Lib Dems are not the same as the Liberals (the Democrats and the Liberals allied in 198 cool , and the Liberals are technically not the same as the Whigs (they changed the name during the 19th century).

I don't know who I'll vote for. The Conservatives repulse me, really. I have no sympathies with the right wing. In particular, Cameron is an irritating public school boy, trying his hardest to act chummy with those who don't usually vote for his party.

Lib Dems are useless... No comments about them, but I'd wish they were ultra-liberal and had a chance.

Labour are a constant stream of PR stunts and disappointment. I wish they were as vocal as in their early days for the 'working class', and had evolved not as a party, but along with the term 'working class', to offer us a modern liberal socialism, rather than a misnomer of conservatism that they offer us.

Heh, I dunno. Sometimes I think I'd vote for the Green Party if there was a chance of getting an honest lot to rule.

Does anyone know the great story of the man who dubbed himself the 'Literal Democrat' and got the record for the most votes for a one-man party?

Green?

Honest?

What makes you say that?

I will be voting for the Conservatives. My reasoning is probably a little unique because it concerns my own background.

I used to live in Northern Ireland, where the major parties are affiliated with a terrorist organisation. Sinn Féin/IRA, Democratic Unionist Party/UDA are just two examples. The people of Northern Ireland have only recently began to see beyond their own petty struggles and it's taken them decades to come to the point they are at, but while the two aforementioned parties remain in power, it will take even more decades for the current delusion of 'peace' to become a reality.

While I lived there, I could not vote for any of the major British parties, despite being a British citizen living in Britain. Why? There was no New Labour candidate running in any area of Northern Ireland. There was no Liberal Democrat candidate running in any area of Northern Ireland.

There was a Conservative candidate.

It was pointless to vote for him/her. Even though my vote would be a vote for a non-paramilitary organisation, never mind it being a vote for Britain, my single vote would be lost against the thousands still voting for the past.

I now live in England, which despite all it's faults, is still a more civilised country than Northern Ireland will be for a long time. I have always admired Margaret Thatcher's harsh stance against the wastes of oxygen in Northern Ireland and I will vote for the party that at least tries to give the British citizens of Northern Ireland a chance to vote as part of Britain.

Chaotica,

Here's hoping that Cameron doesn't manage to lose that successful legacy.

I'd vote for the BNP, not because I'm racist, but because I want to properly assassinate the bastards once they're in. I could blow them all up at once - V for Vendetta style - and be free from Nazism and prejudice for a long while!

Why not save the effort and bomb one of their meetings?

They don't all attend one meeting!
I need to strike them down, and the current system of government. Only then may communism rise like a pheonix from Parliament's ashes.

This was a really cool post! I might be relocating to Norn Iron to work for the PSNI and it's interesting to get the 'low down' on how things are.
It's strange to think when I was wee, the troubles were still ongoing and I had no idea at all. It's odd to think a place with so much 'drama' for want of a better expression, is part of the UK. When you compare it to the rest of it, that is.
I appreciate that the people of NI are still reaping what has been sown, but I hope things are improving.

We must learn to live as brothers and sisters! Real/Continuity IRA suck!

Anyway.
Where I come from it's a battle between Lib Dems and Tories, so naturally I shall be voting for...

I hate Paxman. He's no real journalist. In the interviews with Cameron, he grills him to a crisp and gives him no real chance to talk. With Brown, he's now being grilled by Brown, and is going from a much softer approach.

Not saying that Brown should be grilled more, but Paxman should give Cameron and Clegg the same way. He's not a real journalist, just an toy for the media to use to entertain the viewers.

Then again, I wouldn't want to strike an argument with Brown, seeing as he could send the SAS to neutralise me before I even blink.

Well, I went and voted Tory today. Can't stand Labour and the Lib Dems will have joining the EuroZone if they get a chance so it's Tory all the way for me this time.

Now I've just got to cross my fingers that they slash red tape for small businesses.

I voted Lib Dem this election. Not that it matters, my local area is solid Tory and a very very safe seat. Interestingly enough, there was a 6% swing to the Lib Dems in my area. It's still solid Tory but the new guy put forward by the local area lost 3% of the vote from the 2005 election. Now, whether that's because my outgoing MP was a c**k and fiddled his expenses or because the new guy failed in multiple previous attempts around the country before getting a "safe as houses" nomination, I don't know.

Of course, my ex-MP introduced Section 28 which I'll always hold against him (more than the £100,000 he nabbed from the country).

I love this election result. Nothing quite like watching the media go into a frothing rage because they do not understand how elections really work here (or are being knowingly dishonest in their reporting). Of course, I want a complete overhaul of the entire process so that we vote for local legislative representatives, national legislature and national executive separately.

Voted Plaid Cymru, in the (vain) hope that they might dislodge the sitting LD and tip a balance toward the tories. The national outcome wasn't quite what I expected though, so really my seat didn't have much national significance at all.

No hard feelings though, Mark Williams is a good MP and his win is deserved.
