School system blocks are annoying. In my high-school, ALL religious sites of ANY kind were blocked. All sites for videos, pictures, games, politics, "general interest", and blogs were blocked. Not to mention about another 200 sites individually banned, including Google.

Oddly enough, you could get access to a lot porn sites, which were classified as "News" or "Art".
You know what? Wikipedia isn't censored for "adult content", and it's not blocked. They go as far as to explain how certian acts are done, with pictures, and no one's bothered to block it.

I agree, they're censoring knowledge. The people who blocked all the religious sites probably were trying to aviod their asses getting sued because of bible-obessed parents, religious fanatics, and the "you blocked us so you block them" type of people. They try to block every controversial/politically incorrect site there is. Many schools claim to promote tolerance, but by blocking all those sites, they aren't being very tolerant. If they didn't block it though, they could get into a bunch of crazy law suits, so they'd have to do it eventually.

When ever I have to use a blocked site, I use different undiscovered proxy sites that haven't been blocked yet. There was a password to get past the firewall, but it changes every semester or so. I haven't been able to figure out the latest one, so I'm stuck with proxy sites.

Alternatively, as opposed to using proxies, you could do what I did in college and make a full on case for the reasons why you should be allowed access to the sites in question. Never once failed me. smile

I have no power in the school. They think we're all delinquants and junkies, we don't get much respect, and I highly doubt they'd look into my files and decide wether or not I deserve it...
Thats ghey. -_-
Unfortunatley, many people in my school don't deserve too much respect, and for some reason their image is imprinted in the minds of the administrators as the one of the entire student body. stressed

Yah, it's pretty gay. Now, I'l go off an have a cup of tea, come back later, and hopefully find that I'm not getting sued for offending someone who actually is gay with that comment or attacked by some thirteen year old who needs everything to be politically correct all the time!
In which case, claim gay as being clever word play on the actual true meaning of queer. smile Got me out of a lot of jams.

My school had kind of the opposite problem. I was doing a project on the Army of God, and my school censored the websites with the most useful information, because they were full of hate and religious extremism, or something like that.

One reason they do that is to keep kids from being exposed to "bad ideas." They don't want us to learn about hate because they're afraid we'll buy into those ideas and start joining groups like the Army of God or the KKK.

We need education.... like, I get all the time, "Doesn't Jesus say 'an eye for an eye'?" I have to correct them saying, "No, he talks about how the tradition for punishment is an eye for an eye, but if someone harms you or speaks badly of you, do not do anything against them. In fact, you are suppose to love your enemies and if they ask anything of you, do it for them." Of course, they don't listen stare My two aunts are Wiccan and I love them to death, and when my history teacher was saying, in addition to his everyday anti-christian comments (especially about catholics and puritians), he was saying over and over again, "Anyone who actually believes in magic is stupid." I really wanted to go up to him and (god forgive me) PUNCH HIM in the face. I mean, come on! He has no right to say what is stupid and what is not, he, who believes in time travel aliens and all that stuff rolleyes and talked in class about it to us. But really, also, when people say "god/christ/jesus" as a curse word, and I ask them kindly to stop, they get all pissed off at me. I curse myself, and I am not asking them to stop cursing... just to please not use that word, because that is really offensive to me... seeing how it is one of the major commandments not to use his name in vain, and seeing how he died for us and everything neutral
People need to stop being so aweful. Not closed minded, it is great for people to have conservative views. However, and I find it is usually very liberal people who do this, when they do not know much about something, they find a need to mock it.
