well, people mistake goth and black metal. cradle of filth is black metal. but people think they are trying to be goth and classify them as posers
Cradle of Filth is melodic metal, actually.
Every serious, hardliner black metal fan I know hates Cradle of Filth. Of said hardliners, all of them say Cradle of Filth is melodic metal trying to be black metal.
So, in some odd sense, Cradle of Filth isn't really well liked by any subculture, but seems universally disliked by the subcultures people associate [CoF] with.
