"It is not the roaring thunder that smites, but the silent lightning."

With the days passing her by, the fiery female found herself itching for more. More socializing. More conversation. Just more. As if the Fates had heard her plea, she came across a flyer talking about a book club. She had always wanted to join one back home, knowing there had to be someone in the world that loved books like she did. Her brothers, of course, had put the kibosh on that thought really quick. Book clubs could have boys in them. And boys weren't allowed to be around her without their supervision. They always only wanted one thing, though they never elaborated on what that one thing was. Izzie had an idea of what it could be, but she'd never ventured to ask for fear of being wrong. So, she'd suffered in silence and pined for something she thought she'd never be able to experience.

So with the flyer in her hand, her favorite book, and a Tupperware full of cupcakes she'd made for the occasion, she practically floated to the room that had been designated for the event. Her mind raced with who else would be joining her. Would she know them? She'd met a few interesting people during her time at the academy, but did they enjoy reading. Or, rather, enjoy reading the books she did? The thought stalled out in the hallway for a moment and had her chewing on her bottom lip. Was this smart? Her taste in literature was definitely classified as 'unladylike'. By her mother, mostly, but still. Nerves threatened to take over, casting her gaze around to see if anyone else was going to show up.

'Maybe this is a bad idea...I should probably just go back to my room. I don't want them to think I'm some kind of freak for reading romantasy...' Her inner thoughts argued with what her heart wanted, which was to make more friends. To build relationships with like-minded members of other countries. That was her entire reason for being there, right? For putting up with being so far from those she loved most in the world?

Torn for a moment, she barely resisted the urge to fidget before shaking her head. No, she had to do this. This was going to be good for her. Iz used the thought to bolster her confidence, hoping no one had seen her little display of anxiety. With her head held high, she continued down the hall until she found the right room. She pushed open the door and stepped through the entrance, scanning the plush room for the person that had started the club in the first place.

"Talking." 'Thoughts.'
Nadia was not the one who had come up with the idea for a book club but when the Phonese sibling had expressed interest in one, she was the person who decided to make it a real thing. She had created posters and flyers using her best handwriting and had Evie hang them up all over the school. Nadia wasn’t sure how many other people would be interested in discussing literature but was hopeful that starting a club would allow her to gain more privileges, starting with a tea servant for her and Alei. She had requested for them to start today but had yet to hear back from the headmaster’s chambers.

She was tempted to go to the headmaster herself, but that was too much effort for what could be done with a kettle and some tea bags. The princess had settled on a black tea for today's gathering. It was weird having prepacked bags instead of seeping the leaves herself, but she was hopeful it would still be good.

"I’m curious who all will attend today," Nadia remarked to the other two as they started setting up. They managed to reserve one of the lounge rooms for their meeting, it was the perfect setting for a meeting of like-minded individuals to share their love of books. Nadia decided that the first meeting would be mostly introductions before diving into explorations of each other’s favorite series, but she was curious if anyone had the same interests as her when it came to reading. She had read a few books by Aleithia’s favorite author and found their writing quite captivating. She hoped this club would continue to help her expand her love of reading even more.

As she was attempting to fluff one of the pillows on one of the couches when she spotted a newcomer stepping in. Nadia didn’t recognize the girl, but that didn’t mean much. She rarely noticed any of her peers unless they made an effort to make themselves known like the intimidatingly tall snake man she had spotted with Aleithia on her first day. She looked at the girl, surprised she hadn't seen her bright red hair and bright blue eyes before but was sure that any book lover would be a new friend to her. She tossed the pillow back on the couch, "Well hello there! Welcome to book club, come and find a seat. My name is Nadia and this is Aleithia," she said gesturing over at her best friend, " And over there is her sister Evelyn." she explained, waving Evelyn over.

She looked back at the new visitor, happy at her arrival. She was trying to guess what books she liked by looks alone but was unsure what the new redhead would enjoy. She couldn’t wait to find out more about this woman’s literature preferences whatever they were. "And you are?" she asked, curiously.

Speaking #E8A317
Thinking #1569C7

A few days ago while making his way back to his room, a poster caught Galeons eye that was declaring a Book Club gathering. The idea that there might be a few undiscovered intellectuals within these walls held a sliver of hope for him. Perhaps the time he must spend here could be alleviated by stimulating conversation over a book or two by his favorite philosophers. Lucky for them he brought his favorite copy to the academy, “Exploring the Cornerstones of the World’s Philosophies”.

On his way to the first meeting of the book club, he tucked the well worn paper back into his suit jacket as he left his room. It was a long walk but he was a punctual man. The poster had said it would take place in a lounge near the dining hall if he remembered right. Once he approached the room he figured would be the place, he heard soft voices inside. Upon entering the room, he approached quietly as he took in his surroundings. He was about to attempt to slip in and take a seat before anyone drew attention to him when he locked eyes with none other than the entitled clueless brat who assumed him a servant their first dance class.

Oh yeah, I forgot I still haven’t set the record straight. I honestly thought this game would have been more fun by now but I’ve done too well avoiding people like her I suppose.

He took a breath and was just about to draw his book from his suit jacket when the bossy pink haired girl opened her mouth to speak.

“Oh good! They did get my request. I’m not sure how many guests we will have but they might have more cups in the kitchens, but I’m sure you know that.”

And with a dismissive wave of her hand, she redirected her dragon-lady attention back to her quieter companion with purple… everything? Her dress, her hair, probably even her eyes if Gale had bothered to meet them. The eggplant color of her entirety struck a cord in his memory but nothing that seemed important now.

More importantly, he’s now been tasked with…tea? Tea was okay; never truly exceptional in his opinion. But if ‘fetching tea’ would give him another excuse to piss off the pink haired dragon-lady, it might be worth a trip to the kitchens.

Slackening his posture and dumping his hands in his pockets he mutely nodded at the bossy woman and pivoted right back out of the room. He made his way to the nearest kitchen, and he started to move through the swinging paneled door when a small staff member ran into him, ricocheting off his chest and beginning to fall backward from the impact. Gale gripped them by both shoulders firmly to stop their descent, and the brunette looked up at him shocked at first, then filled with anger.

“Wh- Why are you barging in here, all you royals thinking you can charge into these kitchens daily! It’s so infuriat- AAH!”

Gale did not hesitate the moment she began shouting, drawing the attention of the kitchen staff. He gripped her tighter by her shoulders, lifting her off the floor with ease so she was eye level with his 6’3” frame. Her words stalled in her mouth. Too stunned to continue, her heart pounding like a rabbit in the jaws of a predator that hadn’t clamped down yet. He looked out from behind a strand of raven locks that had fallen in his eyes.
In a soft, calm voice he said
“Isn’t it so much more satisfying to yell at someone your own size?” With no response from the attendant, he set her back down when he noticed how she trembled at the eye contact he had granted. Gently sweeping the wrinkles out from her chef’s uniform at the shoulders he had caused, he spoke equally as calm again.
“Now, be a dear and direct me to the tea. Understood?”
The woman snapped out of the fear that locked her in place when he gave her another firm look.
“I-I of course, um yes it’s - over here, by this cabinet and w-we will start a kettle r-right away!” She stammered and stumbled through the crowded kitchen to frantically start making tea. This wouldn’t do, she was shaking and was going to make a mess of the loose leaf. He followed her path through the kitchen, coming up behind her he stilled her shaking hands with one of his over the top of hers.

“I think it’s best if I take it from here.”
He nodded to the scattered tea across the counter. She blanched and stepped back from him, about to argue about it being her duty when Galeon crossed his arms over his chest and made a point of looking down at her. She stalled again and mumbled some agreement before dashing away the direction she had tried exiting before. The bustle of the kitchen resumed and Gale turned his attention back to the canisters in front of him. So many canisters. It reminded him of his laboratory back home, it was an experiment waiting to be unwrapped. He tried to keep on task though, he was simply here to make an immensely disappointing cup of tea for the she-dragon and her groupies. He picked up pre-bagged tea and grimaced at the stale aroma. However… He paused thinking to himself. What if the greatest disappointment for her would be admitting I make better tea than that plant-propagating hippie? I bet she would hate that. Pondering this for a moment he began reading bottles and contemplating the types of tea that would accompany a book reading session. Perhaps a black tea, or a spicy chai. But I doubt I have the resources here for a well-balanced chai. Hmm

He spent a shameful amount of time thinking this over as he measured the dried herbs to blend into one type, calculating the balance between all the aromas. He grabbed a canister and dumped out the tea that was in bags, and placed his new concoction into it right at the moment the kettle started to sing. He placed the tea in the mesh divider of the kettle, setting a timer for the experiment. He snapped his fingers to a sous chef who stood idly by another cook.

“Eight cups and saucers on a platter.”
He felt in his element when he was running an experiment; it was an addicting high. But he couldn’t get ahead of himself, he had to test the results. But one person isn’t enough for a test group. Unless… Unless he documented the subtle responses from the book club. But that would mean he had to return to the same group for consistent data. Well damn.
He resigned himself to the inconvenience of dealing with the greenwitch gang as he plated the hot kettle on the platter and picked it up, testing the balance.

Making his way back towards the lounge he convinced himself that it was for science.

                                                        DUCHESS OF SISCIA

What factors constituted in something being a 'book club'?

Was there a specific frequency of a material involved? Some likely had readings done in-session, while others could be more focused on discussions about books read prior to the meeting itself. Would there be required reading? A prerequisite on deep understanding of the written word? To what standard would their interest in reading have to meet? One could enjoy a good novel from time to time, others going through an entire series run in less than a week. Would all members' particular interests be taken to account or would there be centralized, shared genre themes as a backdrop to their discussions? If there was a writer or genre that one was disinterested in, would those things be dropped or the member in question? Who was to be judge, jury and club expeller when such problems arose? All of these were important things to consider, but for Altagracia it all came down to one primary query:

                                                        Was sudoku considered acceptable reading?

Technically speaking, there wasn't much to be said on the penmanship of those who would construct the numerous graphs that made up a sudoku book. In terms of literary heft, they were as light as air. However, one could analyze their contents for days on end. Grace herself was only a quarter of the way through one she'd started when she first came to this school. Sure, there was no sense of drama or mystery directly on the page. No romances to bloom, no villain to meet their tragic end only immediately after you learn of their tragic past. But that didn't mean they lacked in a sense of excitement, right? That buzzing feeling you got when everything just clicked and a line you'd been struggling on finally made sense. The dedication to structure that you yourself had to follow in order to make sure you were placing everything down correctly, a plethora of prerequisite knowledge guiding you through the process. That sweet sense of victory when you finally got that last number in place was almost as good as any mystery solved. Perhaps she would bring this up when she got th-

Ah, who am I kidding. They are going to love the adventures of Hildibrand Manderville, he's like the greatest investigator in all of fiction! I need to stop worrying so much about it. And if they don't, that's their loss.

The stories of Hildibrand had always been a guilty pleasure of her's, being the daughter of proper investigators and all. Still, when she was a young girl he was an inspiration. While she could never quite hope to live up to the legacy of a fictional character, Gracie hoped she'd be able to come pretty close. It'd been a long time since she'd read these books, but she was certain they held up. How could they not? She'd always been pretty perceptive, and she trusted the tastes of her younger self. That being said, it was hard not to be a little nervous. In a way she felt so unprepared, most of her time reading recently being reports, witness statements and the like. Her puzzle books brought her out of the constant work, but other than that it'd been a good while since she ever really sunk her teeth into some proper storytelling.

Feigning confidence, she made her way to the designated lounge room with a pep in her step. But it wasn't all fake; after all, she hadn't decided to get herself involved with this group only to read books and do whatever else book clubs did. Clubs meant social interaction, getting to know people better. Their interests, their beliefs. And with her abilities, maybe some of their intentions for being at Utopia as well.

Admittedly, she was more invested in the club itself. It was clear to her from the events of the explosion that she'd been overworking herself a bit, and clearly needed to work on her bedside manners. Everyone here was there for their own reasons, and she shouldn't have been trying to assign value to them like she had that night. And just because she hadn't given herself much time to read didn't mean she didn't enjoy it anymore, she just hadn't found a way to bring that hobby back into her rotation. Maybe this would reignite that spark in her.

On her way over, Altagracia noticed the trails of a particularly...intense aura radiating from the doorway and off towards another hallway. Normally she would follow the trail as furthering her tardy streak wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, and started to make her way over. She followed it back over to a nearby kitchen, keeping behind a final corner as to not be spotted. Peaking out for a moment, she took a cursory glance at the staff there. In the physical realm they seemed to didn't seem too bothered per se, but their auras were particularly screaming out.

I can't imagine working in a place like this is an easy job. Just from my first day I knew that not everyone here would be the agreeable sort. Then again, I suppose I'm not always the most agreeable myself. Perhaps I'm overthinking this too. And if not, by the looks of things I'll find out soon enough.

Deciding to leave them alone for now, figuring she might only cause further distress while gathering a statement from them for what could easily just have been a simple matter of a royal having a temper tantrum, Altagracia walked back before getting too close to be spotted. As she expected, there were quite a few people had already gathered to the meeting place. She got a bit flushed, feeling like her hunger for intrigue had robbed her of making a timely arrival for nothing. The young woman did make a note to potentially check back on those servants later, though. Just in case. The matter of the traces that had led her to them remained as well, and she wondered if they would reveal themselves as someone here. It could have very well been another servant, or someone who had issue with a club member or the club itself. Whatever the case, I don't think it'd be a good first impression if I just stared them all down to figure that out. For now, she made a knock on the doorway to announce her presence.

"Hi there, everyone. I hope I'm not too late as to be interrupting the proceedings?"

It was hard to know what to do to be helpful. Nadia was doing the bulk of setting up, which already felt unfair. When she and Evie had mentioned how nice it would be for a book club to be started at the academy, her best friend had taken the matter into her own hands. In just a few, short days it had been approved and they were allowed to make up flyers. Flyers she also didn't have much of a hand in making. Alei had gotten to help put them up and set neat little stacks of them in the main hall where students could see them between meals. Now leaving them both to set up she couldn't help the bitter twang of uselessness that coursed through her.

All she'd managed to do today was run to the library and check out two of her favorite Alain Miranda books to bring them to club.

A redhead entering the room was enough to distract her. Before she could say anything and maybe act as an unofficial greeter of sorts, Nadia had already welcomed the new guest in and introduced the three of them to her. Dipping into a curtsy when her name was mentioned, Alei couldn't help but hope that she was making a good impression as she spoke. "A pleasure to meet you."

While she had come to love passing the days with tea and reading when they weren't in class, it wouldn't be bad to get to know the other students more. After all, it was Aleithia who had pushed Nikolaus to attend the academy in the first place for the sake of peace. It simply didn't make sense not to put the effort in. Which was why she had woken up early, agonized over the outfit the would suit the event while still putting her best foot forward, and shown up early.

The man who entered the room stole her attention away. It was hard to forget someone who had helped her so kindly. But before she could say anything, Dia had started an exchange with him. As if he were a servant? A glimmer of confusion danced in her eyes. Galeon was a prince, wasn't he? His name had been one of the ones she had recognized when role had been called in classes. Or had Nadia figured something out before she had and there were servant plants to artificially expand class sizes who used names of actual royalty? Surely not.

The doubt swirling in her mind prevented her from protesting when Nadia sent him to go fetch tea. Clearly she must have been mistaking him for someone else. If he was the prince she had thought he was wouldn't he have said no? But he had left to carry out the order. It wouldn't be the first time that she had misunderstood something. She'd tried pushing it from her mind, to focus on the other three women in the room with her.

Shaking the thought was proving a more difficult task than she expected. She wanted to follow him, find out if she really had remembered wrong. The idea had firmly wiggled it's way under her skin. Finally giving in, she placed a hand on Dia's arm to get her attention. Once the rose haired woman turned to her, Aleithia offered her a small smile. "I'll be right back Dia."

The petticoat of her tea length skirt fluttered against her calves as she dodged another woman entering the room. Giving a quick curtsy in response to her greeting, she slipped out of the room behind the stranger. Each step she took was accentuated by the kitten heels she had worn that day, taking her measly frame up about two inches. A small part of her hoped Dia thought she was using the restroom, because she struggled to believe that her best friend would approve of what she was actually doing.

Wandering toward the kitchen had proved fruitful, as the man she had thought was Galeon came into view. Her brow furrowed as she took in the sight for a moment. The scar on his face suggested he was the very same man who had assisted her in class, but why would a man of his status stoop to making tea? "Sir Galeon?" Her voice was hesitant, but thankfully fluid. "I'm not sure you remember me, but you helped me in class not long ago. I wanted to thank you, but..." She trailed off, looking between him and the platter and kettle. "Is there any way I could help you in return?"

It felt like a fool's question, tumbling out of her mouth before she could stop herself. Aleithia knew she wasn't strong and it was only one kettle, he could more than manage it himself. Still, she couldn't help from being hopeful he would say yes.

                                                            ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

              1. A book club was an excellent idea but it wasn’t something Evelyn had expected to flourish into a real, tangible thing. She had a horrible habit of coming up with ideas and never following through with them and Alei, bless her heart, wasn’t one to draw attention or lead anything. Thankfully, they had Nadia to make it all happen. Evie was nothing if not grateful, happy to help in whatever way Nadia dictated. Sure, she had some ideas of her own but kept them to herself, because she wasn’t the one in charge and really she shouldn’t be anyway. She would probably just mess it up, so Nadia being in charge was for the best. Evelyn did what she was told or asked to, from proofreading said posters to hanging them all over the school.

She even helped set the lounge up, which wasn’t hard. The staff kept all the rooms of the grand academy positively pristine, so there was no use cleaning. The couches and chairs were luxurious and comfortable, the large round table in the centre shining with wood polish. Evelyn did what she could, like adjusting the curtains to let in enough natural light to warm the room and brighten it without causing headaches or setting out glasses and a pitcher of ice water in case anyone wanted something to drink other than tea, or making sure there were more than enough places to sit comfortably by dragging in chairs from other rooms. Was it all overkill? Probably, but who knew what kind of people would be joining them.

When there was nothing left to do, Evie excused herself to the washroom where she downed one of her infused herbal beverages as quickly as she could without giving herself the hiccups or burps. The effect wasn’t immediate so she thought it best to partake before anyone else showed up. Smoothing out her frizzy hair in the vanity mirror to the best of her ability Evelyn then made her way back to the lounge. Just in time, it seemed, because their first guest had arrived while she had been gone! Evelyn offered the crimson-haired girl a warm and polite smile, nodding her head in somewhat awkward greeting while she took her seat once again. She had claimed a particularly comfortably armchair that was big enough for her to tuck her legs neatly up underneath her, should she desire. The best part? It was near the back corner of the room, close to a bookshelf of random knick-knacks and close enough to engage with the group, but far enough away that she didn’t feel so…perceived. It was suffocating at times.

More people came, including a dark-haired man that Evelyn recognised but didn’t know. Was he a servant? Truly? It seemed hard to believe given how well-dressed he was, but Nadia already seemed to know him so who was she to argue? Another woman came then, after the man left to get tea, with startling blue eyes and a calm presence. Evelyn offered her a polite smile and a little wave from her seat, leaving the job of leading the first session up to Nadia. This was her project, really, so it only seemed fair. If not her, then it should be Alei.

Who, speaking of, was leaving. Evelyn’s gaze immediately snapped to watch her little sister slip out of the room. It looked like she was going after the maybe-not-a-servant man with the scar. Probably to help, she thought with an affectionate shake of her head before getting up once more. The book she had brought, an old horror novel that she had read more times than she cared to admit, was left on the chair. She leaned down just to quickly whisper to Nadia as she passed the pink-haired woman.

“I’ll be right back, you’re doing great.” Before she hurried out of the lounge after her sister. She wasn’t sure why she felt the need to follow; it wasn’t like Alei was a literal baby, she could take care of herself surely. Even still, Evelyn couldn’t stop herself from speed-walking down the hallway to the nearby kitchen where she had just seen her sister’s skirts disappear through a set of doors. She stopped short before going in, hidden in the hallway just outside the doors. Why had she stopped? Probably because she realized how odd it would look if she also followed the servant to the kitchen. Or maybe because she wanted to give Aleithia the chance to do whatever it was she was doing, on her own, instead of with her big sister hovering like a fretting mother. The thought made Evelyn huff quietly to herself. She was rooted in the spot, straining her ears to listen to the two talking. This was stupid, and rude; she should just go back to the lounge to help Nadia.

But she stayed put, listening as Alei thanked the man for helping her in the past before offering to help him. Gods above, her sister was such an angel. She had called the man Galeon, and referred to him as ‘sir’, which meant he was of some sort of noble birth. So why was Dania treating him like a servant? And even stranger, why was ‘Sir Galeon’ going along with it? Evelyn couldn't move, not now, determined to listen a little more before trying to either hurry back to the lounge or step into the kitchen like she wasn't eavesdropping moments before. She hadn't decided yet.

"It is not the roaring thunder that smites, but the silent lightning."

The sight of a few other students, some she recognized from class and on campus, had relief washing over her. She was in the right place after all. Putting a smile on her lips, she strolled closer to the little group and waved a hand shyly at them each in turn. Nadia, Aleithia, and Evelyn. Those were easy enough to remember. Each of them were stunning in their own way, which had her wishing she’d done something more than just wear her usual dress. With her anxiety ready to shift into turbo, she swallowed her nerves as best she could and set the book she’d brought with her on the table closest to her.

”It’s a pleasure to meet you all. I’m Isabelle, though most just call me Izzie.” Hoping that was enough, she looked around the room and arched a brow at the presence of another. This one was new, and held an air of intelligence that had her sliding her smutty book behind her a bit. Was this that kind of book club? Was she going to look like some kind of crazy lady for her contributions? Cursing herself in her mind, she waved in greeting to the newcomer and shook her head at the woman’s words.

”I don’t think so. I believe we are still waiting…” The one named Aleithia’s exit stalled out her words, causing her to lift a brow as she watched her and Evelyn head out into the hall. Had she missed something? Confused, Iz turned her attention back to Nadia and arched a brow slightly in question.

”Did I miss something?” Hoping her presence hadn’t offended the pair, she looked back towards the hall. An odd sensation raced down her spin as she watched the door the pair had left through. Something didn’t feel right. Chalking it up to her anxiety over being in a group of people she didn’t know, Izzie did her best to shrug it off and returned her attention to the two remaining people in the room with her.

"Talking." 'Thoughts.'
They got Nadia’s request for help, after all! It made sense that this servant seemed much more accustomed to doing busy work considering his reaction to the wall breaking on her first day. Clearly he was no knight by any means, but serving tea would do him just fine. This would be so helpful so then she could focus on welcoming all the members, and they all seemed to be such lovely ladies, had Nadia really expected anything else really? Of course book club would only have the brightest of minds, no matter that they were all women.

Now it was time to go back to hosting, something she didn’t have much experience with being the youngest of her family but she knew how to make a proper introduction at least. Aleithia had followed after the male servant for some reason, Nadia wanted to chastise her about how servants could carry the tea equipment on their own but she seemed rather determined to catch him. Nadia worried Alei might accidentally give the servant the wrong idea with her kindness but knew jealousy was never a good look on anyone. ' That girl is too kind for her own good…' she thought looking at her as she walked away. Who knew that Nadia would fall for such a softie? At least her sister was there to follow her in case something happened.

No matter, there were members for her to entertain! The princess turned her attention back to the redhead, " Izzie? Lovely to meet you. I am so glad you could make it," her eyes glittered with excitement as she spoke to her. Her attention was then focused on the tall woman who just entered, she looked like one of her favorite characters from her favorite detective novels. Was it possible she dressed for book club today? Nadia wanted to ask but was fearful that she might offend her if she was wrong.

" Izzie is right, you didn’t miss anything at all. We are just making sure we have the proper refreshments and then we will get started." Nadia smiled at the newcomer. What a good group was forming, how wonderful! " I am Nadia Eden, one of the founders of this club, and you are?" opting to not curtsy as this was supposed to be a more informal setting. Nadia hoped that this would be a place for book lovers to relax and talk about their passions for books and not have to be brought down by politics and manners.

Noticing Izzie looking into the hallway as she asked her question, it was hard for her not to be the slightest bit concerned. Had there been something she missed? Sometimes she did have a bit of a controlling personality and she didn’t mean to take over but she just wanted to make Alei and Evelyn’s dream a reality. Her intentions had to mean something. But worrying would do nothing for her now, she had to be the bright one here. " Aleithia and Evelyn just went to go assist with the refreshments. Once they return we will get started." It felt she was repeating herself to assure herself more than inform the others but Nadia did her best to reassure the two so they wouldn’t worry too much. It was difficult when her own curiosity was getting the better of her. Nadia blamed her obsession with true crime stories.

She needed to focus back on to hosting. Asking them questions was a great way to keep them interested, " While we are waiting, I would love to know more about you two. What is your favorite series?" Nadia asked as she maintained her calm and soft smile.

                                              Speaking #E8A317
                                              Thinking #1569C7

As the ebony haired man was making his way back to the lounge with a platter of steaming hot tea in his hands, he was thoroughly wrapped up in the calculations he would need to make and the potentials of the experiment that would soon be under way. He had made the most fragrant blend of black tea with touches of star anise for style and aroma. The color would surely be leeching nicely into the tea within the gilded kettle thanks to the steel jacket tea infuser he had quickly selected shaped like a star. These women would likely care for such aesthetics as this, and it might influence their willingness to enjoy such a beverage. Interrupting his thoughts, he heard a clipped tip tap of heels approaching, and almost too light came the bump of boots at a hesitant pace farther away than the heels had been. Two people approached the corner he was nearing. Then as if on cue the heels appeared, with a woman attached, giving form to the soft noise. Where had the boots stopped? He did not catch the sound of their retreat.

                                              "Sir Galeon?"

"Oh. Hello." He was reluctant to engage with the young woman in conversation because she seemed so fragile to even make extended eye contact with.

"I'm not sure you remember me, but you helped me in class not long ago. I wanted to thank you, but..." Her voice seemed to vanish near the end of her sentence as if it had been a regret to speak in the first place. He watched her hands wringing one another until she looked at the tea kettle steaming atop his platter.

"Is there any way I could help you in return?"

A wave of grief washed over him. It wasn’t in his nature to do something that was inherently right in the hopes that others would return the gesture, but something he had done must be bringing this attention back around to himself like some sort of mythical karma, except he did not wish to have this “good karma” returned to sender. He would have happily left the package in the post box and moved to another continent entirely before having to endure the look of sheer innocence she granted him, gazing up into his amber eyes intermittently as she braved a look at him between reluctant words.

The longer he stood there taking her in, he realized his first impressions were wrong on multiple accounts; she was not doused in amethyst tones as he had first glanced. No, he could clearly distinguish her gemstone eyes from the tones that adorned her, and the way her brown curls swayed around her face framed her like some form of angelic creature; immune to the horrors humanity had wrought in the wars. Who could afford to retain their innocence like that? A princess was his best guess, and not the type in line for the throne. Perhaps he was mistaken and she was only putting on an act but something about the way she looked at him was quite genuine. That made it even more daunting and left his mouth hollowed out and dry.

“I’m not sure what I’ve done to imply I require or have the capacity to receive any assistance with the tea. However, It appears we are the only ones that are out here , would you mind accompanying me back towards the reading room?”
He spoke softly and in an even tone, only breaking his unwavering eye contact to cast a nearly indistinguishable glance at the corner that Evelyn was lurking poorly behind. If she had seen his glance at her, only she would know his attention had been on another person present because of the sincere way he had delivered his sentence. He spoke it gently to ensure not to frighten the deer of a girl before him, but the conviction behind the word choice was for Evelyn’s ears.

                                                        ALTAGRACIA ☯ SARMIENTO
                                                        DUCHESS OF SISCIA

Right as Altagracia entered, another brunette made her way out. She seemed sweet, dressed rather eloquently, and provided the spirit detective with a short but sweet curtsy before walking off. Nodding politely in response, she entered the room properly and was greeted by the rest of the women. One, who bore resemblance to the woman in purple, went off in the same direction shortly after Altagracia came into the room. That left her with the other two, women with hair of red and pink, respectively. Of particular interest to Grace was the latter of the two, whose outfit was especially fun and held a color scheme similar to many of her own. She also had quite a few tattoos, reminding her a bit of....well, perhaps she'd hold off on speaking to this woman for now. She'd probably end up saying something silly.

”I don’t think so. I believe we are still waiting…did I miss something?”

The redhead was the first of the two to speak, somewhat perplexed by the departure of the two other brunettes. As Altagracia sat down closer to her than her other fellow student, she gave her a momentary glance to see if the woman's aura brought her any additional information. For now, the only thing the spirit detective took note of was the degree to which she seemed worried about those two; it was greater than what her words alone conveyed.

" Izzie is right, you didn’t miss anything at all. We are just making sure we have the proper refreshments and then we will get started."

Responding to the redhead, the pink-haired woman identified her as "Izzie" before introducing herself. " I am Nadia Eden, one of the founders of this club, and you are?" Altagracia took a moment to peruse Nadia's aura before responding, but there was not much different spiritually from what she conveyed in the physical realm; she was quite poised, quite self-assured. In a way, the spirit detective was a bit envious. Not in a negative sense, but more...aspirationally. She had a sense of calm to her that Grace felt while knee deep in her work, but rarely experienced elsewhere.

"I am Altagracia, or Grace if you'd prefer. It's a pleasure to meet you both."

Still, this experience was overall quite calming, at least. There was a serenity to sitting with the two of them that she hadn't yet experienced with anyone at this school besides Charlene. Anika, her only client so far, was...intense, to say the least. Then there was hoodie boy, who fortunately learned how to put on pants but was still sometimes hard to keep up with. From there, it was people she mostly tried to avoid: Bubby, Bubby's handler, the ******** wall-crawler, and said arachnid's deadbeat dad. There was one other person in her life—well, not actually in her life. Adjacent, in a way, but she hadn't the courage to interact with him much, and that was unlikely to ever get easier.

It was then that Grace noted an additional use for this club: she could probably use more than one normal friend.

Nadia explained that the two women who left when Altagracia entered, Aleithia and Evelyn, were out getting refreshments handled. Unfortunately, that wasn't the only information the spirit detective gathered just then. Th-that aura from before...it's been here too. Was that individual also to be a part of this book club? If that were the case, why weren't they mentioned before? Were they the reason Izzie was so worried about the two brunettes? Perhaps they hadn't introduced themselves, then? Or...maybe they had just been using this room prior to the meeting, and she was jumping to conclusions unnecessarily. The part of her that wanted some peace and quiet today was hoping for the latter, but the investigator in her was hungry for the former to be the case. Whatever that person's issue was, Altagracia couldn't help but be at least a bit curious about them. But for now, it would seem as though the spirit detective wasn't the only curious person in the room.

" While we are waiting, I would love to know more about you two. What is your favorite series?"

In that moment, Altagracia's heart sank. She thought she had built herself up pretty well on her way to the meeting, but now? "Well, for me it's..."

Grace paused for a moment, cheeks a bit red. If she continued, she surely would've gone into ranting mode from the embarrassment, but she luckily caught herself before things got too out of hand on that front. Clearing her throat, she looked away from the two of them for a moment before looking back and continuing with a more composed disposition.

"Well, it's a horror series. But perhaps we should wait for everyone to come back before going into such specifics? If that's fine, at least. We're just waiting on Aleithia and Evelyn, right?"
