tab Alosa had been talking to her parents all day about her new engagement. " Mom, what do you mean I've been engaged?" she didn't understand. She had been the middle daughter for so long that she was shocked when not only did they lose Calypso, but also now that she was told she had to be engaged to someone else. Her mother wrapped her arms around her as her father continued to explain the situation to her. She didn't quite understand what was going on, but her mother turned her gently to look at her middle child. " Honey, you're the oldest daughter now in the family. We can't have Lana marrying off, not with how ill she is. You know this." Alosa stared at her mother, then to her father before she finally sighed. " I don't have much of a choice do I...? At least i get to meet him first." she smiled and forced herself to accept it. Not much was going to stop this and she knew she had to be the bigger person and help out her younger sister. Her mother patted her shoulders and nodded. Her parents helped her come up with a different outfit for her to wear when she met her new fiance.
tab Alosa was able to get into her outfit even though she felt funny in it. She wasn't used to being so formal, her mother convinced her to be though however, as her fiance would also probably be dressed formal as the kingdom of Hyouden wanted to make a good first impression on the kingdom. She adjusted her dress, and the arm accessory before she breathed out and shifted the dress behind her so it was hanging over the side of the fountain where she brushed her hand over the water, her long hair drifting down and over her arm. She breathed out softly as she closed her eyes and watched the memories of the water flowing through the fountain. She smiled softly as she hummed and the water formed around her hand as she lifted her hand up and held a ball of it in her lap. She kept her eyes closed as the little flicks of water came off before it was absorbed into her hands. There were flecks of water on her wrist covers as the water finally disappeared and she opened her eyes. " Well, you've been on quite the adventure...haven't you?" she turned back to the fountain and held her hand out, letting the water drift out and off her hand. " Almost convenient that you've come all the way from the ice kingdom and made your way here....is this the world saying I need to give it a chance?" she said softly, her eyes flicking away from the water to the ground. She was afraid of what would happen, but she knew for Lana...for Calypso, she had to do this.
tab Alosa stood up and her boots made a little clicking noise as she walked around the courtyard as her jewelry sparkled in the sun. She made a face as it blinded her momentarily and looked around watching the water and different things in the courtyard. Her pink eyes were sparkling as she held her hand out and the water splashed over her as she laughed. She could almost audibly hear the servants rolling their eyes but she didn't care at this point. What was she going to do if the prince came up to her? Be herself! She couldn't be asked to be anything else than her. "Get up boy." A foot slammed into his side, ripping Ivan from sleep and sending him hurling off the bed to collide with the cold stone ground. "It's time to put you to use. The Stilicidium daughter is of age, and your father has obtained strong trade routes in exchange for your hand in marriage." Everything happened so suddenly. Ivan hadn't had a moment to process anything, only given five minutes to collect what little he had and get into a carriage. It wasn't like asking questions was something people did with his uncle; even this prince knew that. ~~~~~ The Stilicidium kingdom was a stark contrast to Ivan's homeland, to put it mildly. They had towering Island castles, surrounded by soft sanded beaches that seemed determined to swallow him whole. So vastly different from the sharp obsidian stones that sliced against the frigid waters of his homeland. The worst part was his inability to do anything about it. He couldn't even call on a storm to cool the blistering temperature since it could be seen as an act of terrorism. His uncle had never hesitated to have him call on storms before, but this situation was vastly different. There was no opponent or battle here, only a girl who would one day be his wife... Ivan worked to coil up his cotton sleeves, the pallid skin on his arms practically reflecting the sun that beat down on him. “ How do people live here?” In a desperate attempt to lower his body temperature, Ivan yanked off his tie while his other hand worked to pop open the buttons of his white undershirt. Fingers pausing at the button that hovered over his outer vest, itching to remove it. But he was under strict orders not to remove the restricting black and gold vest cinched tightly against him. Something about- upholding appearances. As if he hadn't already tarnished it by sneaking out of the ballroom, leaving his father and uncle to talk politics while he wandered the grounds. Those rooms always had a way of suffocating him, the prim and properly measured conversation he felt no need to keep up with. As he walked, his hands traced the silk lining of his empty pockets. He would do anything for a drink right now… Water coated his mouth at the simple thought, causing a deep ache in his teeth as he imagined the smooth, heated liquid that could be sliding down his throat. He rounded another corner, stumbling upon a stretching courtyard. Green grass blanketed the ground here, and cobblestone walkways were painted white and grey, leading to a colossal water fountain sprouting at its center. It seemed as if his aimless wandering had led him someplace more interesting. As he broke the threshold, a shimmering statue just beyond the water caught his eye... No, he was wrong; that figure was moving. Ivan muted his steps, calling on the breeze to glide silently closer to the small girl draped in glistening fabric. She was a stunning creature up close, with long brown hair draped over her exposed shoulders and back in wave-like curls. A stark contrast to the heavy white fabric that clung to her curves, adorned in glittering blue gems reflecting the sun's blinding rays. Her hand drifted to the side, fingers twisting to call on the nearby fountain water and dancing it over their figures. A warm laugh rang from her throat as purls of glittering water escaped her grasp and dribbled down over her hair. To caught up in watching her movements to notice the splash of water heading straight for him. -Splash- For a moment, Ivan didn't move. Frozen by the sudden shock of cold water drenching him. It was his fault; he'd complained too much about burning up in this kingdom... This accident did alleviate that. And now, he had an excuse for getting out of these miserable clothes. Sighing, Ivan pulled his hand from his pocket, reaching up to push the soaking silver strands from his face. Acceptance rolled through him, figuring this was what he deserved for getting too distracted. It wasn't hard to figure out who she was, hearing rumors of the water princess and her silly antics from the hushed voices of servants as he wandered the halls. "Princess Alosa, I take it." His words were short and clipped, leveling her with an icy stare as he moved to step into her immediate space, keeping her attention on him and not the ice trail forming behind her. If he worked this right, her feet would slip out from beneath her when she moved to put space between them. Sending the glittering girl directly into the water fountain behind her. OOC : Let me know if you need anything else! You're free to move Ivan as you need. (:

tab Alosa had been in the moment that she didn't even realize that the representatives from the ice kingdom arrived. Her parents were talking with the King and another representative and just left her to her own devices, they hadn't planned on introducing her quite yet. There was a point in the discussion where they had sent a servant to look for her but they realized that Ivan was gone and kept the political discussion going on instead. They'd find each other eventually, and they didn't know how right they were.
tab Alosa didn't hear him coming as she felt the water landing on her, but she was aware that the servants had left the surrounding area. She figured that probably meant a lot was going on, either preparations wise or they had shown up. She knew her parents would call for her when it was time so she just spent her time enjoying the water. Now, what she hadn't expected was for him to find her, so when she heard someone talking she was taken by complete surprise, her pink eyes swinging around to meet his. She also realized that he was completely soaked. "Princess Alosa, I take it." His words were icy and short. She didn't recognize him but he didn't appear old enough to be the king of Hyouden so her next best guess would be the prince. " Um, yes...and you must be Prince Ivan." she replied almost hesitantly. She lowered her hands, turning towards him before she processed why he would be covered in water. Then she suddenly realized why he was, the water from when she had her hand in the fountain! Her hands flew to her mouth, an apologetic expression on her face. " Oh I'm so sorry! Did I do that? I wasn't expecting you until...well, my parents called me in." When he moved to step into her immediate space she immediately felt small, he was so much taller than her and she had to look up to see him so she stepped backwards unknowingly falling into his trick.
tab When her foot made contact with the ice she felt like she suddenly had no balance, she slipped and reached behind her to try and catch herself but found herself touching only water as she fell directly into the fountain behind her. She closed her eyes when she landed, pushing her hair back slightly before she looked down at her dress. Oh man, her parent's would be so mad at her right now! Not only did she get her fiancé wet but she fell into the fountain herself. Why did she loose balance? The sun was out...there shouldn't be anything there... as she pulled herself up onto the edge of the fountain she saw melting ice, her head tilting to the side before she looked up at Ivan, her mind finally making the connection.
tab She didn't know how the women in his kingdom were, if they'd be angry or upset...but she suddenly broke out in a wide smile, laughing a little. " Was that payback? That was good!" she flicked her hands slightly as the water came off and she then placed them on the fountain edge next to her hips. She took his offered hand when he held it out, placing her hand in his and pulling herself up, taking care to avoid the remainder of the ice as it slowly melted. Once she was up on her feet she only took her hand back when he let go, his hand was large and she didn't mind for some reason. She smiled and held her hand up, the water from her dress mostly absorbing into her skin, and forming into her hand again. She moved her hand so it was over the fountain and let it drop in. She smiled at him apologetically before she then placed her palm against his arm, doing the same thing for him, but she wasn't able to get him completely dry. She gently removed her hand from his arm and brought it back to her chest. " Sorry I can't completely get you dry, but i'm sure it feels better than before!" she said cheerfully, not seeming to be bothered by the fact that she totally embarrassed herself in front of the man meant to be her new fiance. Ivan knew he didn’t have to worry about her. With Alosa being from this kingdom, it would be idiotic if she didn’t know how to swim. Still, he held his breath until she broke the water's surface and pulled herself onto the edge. Laughter erupted from Ivan's chest, her surprised and confused expression as she connected the dots, sending him over the edge. “ It was only fair.” He added, a smooth smile cracking over his features as he offered his hand. Moving with fluidity, her small hand floated up to settle gently into his as she pulled herself up. The pad of his thumb trailed lightly over her knuckles before he released her, noting how fragile her hand seemed in his callused one. It was odd to think the small girl standing before him was meant to be his wife and the next queen of her kingdom. Though he didn’t initially think much of this lesser kingdom, with it being his weaker state, he could admit they made beautiful women, especially when they smiled. He watched as her fingers danced in front of her, the thin sheen of water coating her skin, metabolizing to collect into a sphere in her hand that she punked back into the fountain. Ivan’s gaze traced her face as she lifted her hand, trying not to tense under her touch as she brought her hand up to rest against his arm. The water soaking his clothing lightened. It wasn’t that he wanted to stay wet, but the natural chill of his skin fought her control, trying to keep some moisture clinging to him. " Sorry I can't completely get you dry, but i'm sure it feels better than before!" Surprisingly, she didn’t seem the slightest bit upset by his trick. Maybe that was how the people acted here: Naturally warm and fluid.. They knew how to laugh off an awkward situation. A personality like that had become foreign to Ivan. At one point, he harbored that same spirited personality with his own people, but that was how he had been relocated into his uncle's care. Most of the women and men he had been around recently in the Yukatin wastelands were hardened and cold, like his uncle… Like he was becoming. Maybe coming to this kingdom wouldn’t be so bad. With her warm smile, it was possible that hardened shell could melt away. Exhaling an amused laugh through his nose, he nodded. “ I have to admit, this heat is a lot for someone who prefers freezing temperatures.” As he spoke, he lifted his arm to shield his eyes while he glared at the pulsing sun above them. “ I fear I might melt if I don't keep a little moisture for myself.” Letting his hand drop to the collar of his shirt, it stiffened beneath his touch, ice trailing over the thin cotton fabric. Ivan himself preferred the colder claimants from some of the kingdoms he’d visited with his uncle. Kingdoms like hers with unbearable heat and humidity weren’t in his top picks. Part of him wondered if Alosa had ever traveled outside her kingdom to experience their neighboring lands. How different they were “Tell me, Princess, have you ever seen Hyouden? It is vastly different from this summer refuge your kingdom has created.” To him, her kingdom sat in complete solitude. How else could someone describe an Island drifting on an ocean only they could control? As he questioned her, he slowly moved them into the shadows, hoping to find refuge. He didn’t need to burn on his first day, and then be stuck walking around like a plump tomato. Would it really be that bad to call on one winter storm? OOC : Let me know if you need anything else! You're free to move Ivan as you need. (:

tab Alosa couldn't help but laugh along with him. The smile that broke out on his face made her stare for a brief moment, her eyes watching him before she had stood up. She couldn't fight the blush that formed on her face as she felt his thumb brushing over her knuckles. Her hand looked so much smaller in his larger one, but she couldn't help but feel like he was somewhat of a gentle giant, however little she knew of his past. There was always time to learn, right? She was aware of his gaze on her as she removed some of the water from herself, knowing her parents would have her head if she got the dress ruined. Not that she was used to wearing such formal gowns, but they wanted her to look the part when she met her future husband. When her hand made gentle contact with his arm she didn't seem to notice him trying not to tense up, her eyes did however admire him a little. She couldn't help but glance up at his chest, noticing the cold feeling of his skin to her touch and the way his skin seemed to naturally fight her powers, which took her by surprise.
tab When he started to speak of colder, no freezing temperatures, she felt herself shiver a little despite the smile on her face. She could never do freezing temperatures! Not all the time. She had too much love for the flowing of the water to see it entirely frozen like that. When he lifted his arm up to shield from the sun she paused again, unable to help herself. Most men in her kingdom were attractive, but there was something about the foreigner prince that drew her in. She wasn't sure if it was his white hair, the fact that she could see the muscles under his shirt when it was wet, or the deep laugh that he had when he seemed to be enjoying himself. What got her the most was his smile, how it looked so natural on him. And what also didn't help her situation was what he did next. When he brought his hand back down she snapped out of her haze and forced herself to stop staring at him, watching as the ice trailed down and over his shirt. She took a moment to register what he'd done, before she smiled and without even thinking stepped forward, reaching her hand up and running it along the now frozen collar of his shirt. " That's so cool..." she remarked, her voice almost mesmerized before she suddenly realized how close and in his space she had gotten.
tab Alosa removed her hand and took a step back, smiling apologetically. " Sorry! I couldn't help myself..." she knew that was an excuse, and a poor one at that, but she didn't have the ability to come up with anything different at the moment. She then tilted her head at his question, noticing that he was moving more towards the shade and she hummed softly at his question once he was done, setting her hand on his arm again and directing him to a bench that sat in a shaded area of the courtyard where they could sit and talk. " I haven't seen Hyouden myself, but I do one day hope to. I've heard stories from soldiers who travelled there, or merchants but I'm sure stories don't even begin to compare to seeing it for oneself." she spoke softly, but she was being true to her words. She did want to see the kingdom, and she sat down, pushing her dress underneath her before she did, and bending her legs in under the bench as she leaned back on her hands. " I'm sure it is! And if you're afraid of melting here, I might very well afraid of freezing there. But I wouldn't say no to a trip."
tab Ivan had no way of knowing this but she had been cooped up in the castle for most of her life. A chance to get out and travel? She'd jump on it! No hesitation. She looked over at him as he sat down next to her, her eyes watching him before she made herself look away. " I would probably have to borrow a jacket or something from you, if you even have one." she joked, her lips curling into a happy smile before she shifted on the bench and leaned over onto his shoulder, although her head didn't reach all the way up to his shoulder. She closed her eyes and made a quiet hum before speaking again. " It's crazy to think that our family decides who we marry..." her eyes shifted over before she set her smaller hand on top of his larger one, almost like she was comparing size. " Although...I can't complain." she smiled softly as she just enjoyed his company, his presence at her side enough to make her feel better about the whole arranged marriage thing. The princess didn't seem to understand personal space. Or maybe it was that close physical contact was accepted in her kingdom. It wasn't like this was uncommon in his kingdom, but things were different between the royal family and the everyday soldier. Still, he fought to contain the heat coiling over his cheeks, tiling out of her touch in an attempt to hide it while simultaneously enjoying it. Alosa, for all things considered, realized her actions and stepped back while issuing an apology. Ivan worked to clear his throat, his hand lifting to scrub down his face and over his neck where she had made contact with him. "No it's fine." He added, doing his best to reassure her before gradually slipping into more conversation. It was odd; usually, he wasn't the type of person to keep the conversation flowing, but he knew it was vital for her to feel comfortable around him. At least for both of their kingdoms. At least here, in the presence of another others, there wouldn't be public training sessions. No beatings for the time being- if he kept everything under lock and key. A smile teased on his lips as she explained how she would be open to visiting his country and reminding him that he would be trapped in this kingdom beside her in the long run. The thought sent a pang of nervousness rolling through him. Ruling a kingdom had never been on his list of things to do; being fifth in line hadn't left him with much more than war plans. Being tied to her would open a different world to him, not just the one with blistering heat... Maybe he could get her to move this floating island a little further north. He followed her lead, listening intently as they approached the bench where blissful shade awaited. She was the first to sit, only watching as she maneuvered her gown to plop beside him. As much as he did like the look of the glittering gown that put ice sickles near sunrise to shame, it must have been a bother to lug around. Nearly as bad as the suffocating vest he wore now. She leaned against him, the size of her small frame growing more apparent as she slipped her hand over his. There was no way his jacket would fit her; it would be a dress that surely would drown her small frame. Though she was from this kingdom, it was safe to assume she would be an avid swimmer even if it was beneath his clothing. The thought had a chuckle rolling from his lips as he turned his hand, catching her palm before trailing his fingers up her forearm. " Something I've come to realize is, Its always easier to warm up than it is to cool off. There are only so many layers appropriate to remove." There was a teasing glint in his eye as he scanned her face for a reaction to his comment that teetered on inappropriate. But the man couldn't help himself; making women flush was one of his favorite pastimes. At the mention of their arranged marriage, Ivan tried his best not to grimise. Becoming anything more than a war general wasn't what he had ever imagined for himself; now he had the possibility of a king dangling before him. Though, it wouldn't be him leading this country, it would be the small woman beside him. Ivan would simply become her sword, leading their kingdoms in battle. Part of him wondered if she realized that. He wouldn't be by her side often, not when the front lines called him. " The curse of Royalty." The words were a mumble as he leaned into her, easily bearing the weight she pressed against him. " Or benefit in some cases." He added quickly, not wanting her to assume he hated the idea. It was a new concept to him, but he understood its importance. Pulling his gaze away, he scanned their surroundings, taking notice of the guards posted at every corner, leaving him wondering why this kingdom was so heavily guarded. Seeing as it was suspended in isolated waters- it couldn't have been easy for just anyone to gain access. Was it Hyouden's arrival that caused it? Using his free hand, he hooked his finger beneath her jaw. Drawing her gaze up, he locked his icy steel blue with the flowing ocean of hers. He leaned down as though he were planning to kiss her. But flicked his eyes over to the nearby guards. Forcing hesitation into his features and easily playing the part of a shy boy. Dropping her chin, he cleared his throat and ran that hand same hand through his hair, feigning embarrassment. " Alosa, Why does your kingdom require such heavy protection?" Making sure to phrase the prying question as innocently as possible. " Is it because we're here?" OOC :

tab Alosa couldn't help but notice that Ivan reacted funny to her touch. She didn't even think about if there would be an issue with her being touchier than others, but he didn't seem to mind too much, she had noticed his reaction as she had pulled his head back from her a little. She didn't have a direct view as he turned but she saw a hint of color on his face. Even after they had sat down on the bench she had noticed that he was a little wary. Perhaps she had been too touchy off the bat. She couldn't help it sometimes; her parents always told her to be aware of how she affected people. She was grateful still, he hadn't scolded her or told her to keep her hands to herself.
tab She looked up at him at the sound of a laugh leaving his lips, the sound making her heart beat a little bit faster. She certainly hadn't expected to be so caught up with the man when she first heard about the idea. His hand flipping over and catching her own made her realize how small her hands were compared to his. The feeling of his fingers along her forearm made a small shiver ripple up her arm, but it was a good feeling. The touch of his hand on hers and the cool touch made her smile softly. She laughed quietly at his comment, although not without a blush at the thought of how far he'd be willing to go before he would hit his idea of inappropriate. " That's true! You can always add more layers, and especially as royalty we're bound to even stricter rules." she really had nothing to compare it to, but she was certain that she and Ivan had more rules than the commonfolk had.
tab She was smiling to herself at the thought of marriage, missing the man's best effort to keep his facial expressions under control. She didn't know exactly how it would work, if she would be with him all the time, or if war would call him away. Mother hadn't explained that to her quite yet, and she knew in time all would be explained so she never really had questioned it before. At his remark she glanced up and nodded her head. She understood. Being royalty meant a lot of things. Rules. Regulations. Sure she was admired and loved, but she also had to live up to a lot. Especially since Calypso. " Being Royalty is a double-edged sword." she murmured softly. She did take notice of the guards around every corner. She knew exactly why it was so, and she knew the question was going to come eventually.
tab What the princess wasn't expecting was for Ivan to lift her chin up and lean down towards her. She felt her face flushing red and she couldn't help that her thoughts immediately went to what his lips would feel like. Her eyes started to close the closer he moved before she cleared his throat and she glanced back as she noticed the guards looking directly ahead of themselves while still a little more tense than usual. Surely they weren't bothered by them? She looked back over to Ivan as he started by saying her name and there it was, the dreaded question. She felt her heart sink a little bit, and she smiled sadly, her hand that was still inside his tightening a little bit as she looked down. " Ah, yeah the security..." she knew her voice would give away the entirely different feelings she had about the reasoning behind it, but she certainly didn't think anyone would blame her.
tab Alosa looked ahead of herself, her pink eyes staring into the distance, seemingly thinking before she closed them. " Yes and no...mostly not." she started before she kept talking, a heavier tone to her words. " Yes because, well...another kingdom is here when we were already on such high alert. And no..." she had to pause again to prevent her voice from cracking with emotions. It had only been a year, and here she was explaining it to essentially a stranger. She trusted him already, but it was still a tough subject to talk about. " A year ago...we had an incident. We haven't recovered from it." her eyes opened, and she looked down at her lap, free hand playing with one of the gems on the fabric. " My sister, Calypso, was on her own without protection...and she was killed." with just the word she could feel the air around them darken. The topic of death was one that she didn't like, but knew was very needed. Especially with her now being the crown princess. " We still haven't found the culprit...nor do my parents think we will. We had to move forward with our deal with Hyouden as it was already in the process, but had to put it off a year for me to turn 18."
tab Alosa clenched her hand that was on her lap, a little bit of anger forming in her stomach. She still didn't understand why anyone would take out her sister, her beloved, sweet elder sister. Perhaps it was just the risk they took by being born to a family of such importance. She took a deep breath in, closing her eyes as she exhaled. She mustn't let it get to her. Not now when her parents and kingdom were counting on her. " My apologies...I'm still not used to talking about it." she had opened her eyes and smiled sadly up at him. " My parents trust you, however they're being very careful. I'm the new crown princess, they want to make sure I'm safe." she didn't want him to feel like they didn't trust the kingdom they intended to make an alliance with, it's not like they did anything to them in the first place. Ivan could only watch as Alosa seemed to shrink in on herself; her grip changed, and the look that filtered across her face painted a vivid picture of distress. Great. He'd offended her. That would surely result in some form of punishment later if he didn't find a way to correct it. The thought of being locked in a room with his uncle sent an uncomfortable sweat down the back of his neck. Or was that because it was so damned hot? But her explanation was slow and measured. He could tell by how she fidgeted with his hand and her dress that the topic was tough, and when the subject finally broached her sister's death, it all clicked into place. The kingdom's reasoning for doubling down was valid; with one crowned princess down and the other so young, any kingdom would work to tighten its grip on security. Ivan couldn't help the judging gaze that swept over their royal guards. Some far too lengthy and round for his liking. If he could get his hands on this group for a month, he'd surely whip them into better shape. Though he was sure these men wouldn't know how to handle the strict regimen he was accustomed to. What kind of horror stories about the Prince of Hyouden would they spread to the common folk if they found it too barbaric? What horrors had they already heard? Ivan's icy gaze fell back to the beauty beside him, offering a small squeeze to the hand tangled in his while his free one lifted to tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear. Subtle movements known for bringing comfort, trying his best not to let her drown beneath the weight of their heavy topic. " My Condolances Princess. Never easy to lose siblings. Especially vhen forced to talk about it. Apologies for asking." If there was one thing he could relate to, it was the feeling of defeat when a sibling is forcefully taken from the living world. However, Ivan wasn't nearly as close to his older siblings as the princess seemed to be with hers. So he was left to imagine the weight and guilt that settled on her chest after being forced into taking her sister's place. Ivan's situation was vastly different; while he didn't love his older siblings, he didn't wish death on them either. Nor was he anywhere close to being in her position with three siblings lined before him. There was a sense of purpose in ensuring those who were left stayed safe and being the person who was tasked to provide that safety net. Maybe that was why he was chosen to be her betrothed. But how could he be expected to split his attention between two kingdoms? Moving his hand to catch her chin between his thumb and forefinger. He locked her gaze with his, forcing her to watch it darken as he broached a serious warning. " It iz the dark truth of Heir Apparent. Zhere vill always be a target on your back now Alosa." The truth that slipped from his lips was cold. He knew it. But by the innocence that radiated in palpable waves from her, he couldn't help but think her family kept her too sheltered from the darkness in this war-stained world. But should it really fall to him to shatter that bubble she seemed so well tucked into? He couldn't stop the softness that fell over his features as he looked down into her wide pink eyes. No, he didn't think it should be him, part of him hoped that the crown's weight was all she would be forced to face going forward. All he would let her face. "Maybe it iz one of the reasons this alliance with our kingdoms is so important. My people know how to thrive in zhe harshest of situations." Dropping his hand to rest atop her's, he continued, letting that softness finally feed into his tone. " And we have faced similar losses. Though zhe transition is difficult for zhe family, and zhe people. Stilicidium is fluid; you are as vell. Vith this union, Hyouden can offer a hardened layer of protection. It would be difficult, splitting his attention between his own army and theirs. But it was part of his duty now, to protect this kingdom, to protect her. How hard would it be to balance the safety of another kingdom on his shoulders? tab Alosa knew she felt her heart tightening at the thought of her sister. She had seen more than most people knew. Sure her sister was poisoned, but it was the after the fact when she saw her that the princess kept seeing in her head. Black hair cascading down the edge of the table as her sister's usually graceful form was slumped over and dried blood on her hair, her clothes and a puddle beneath her on the floor. That was the first time they had seen such violence and the first time Alosa had actually witnessed the blood and the cold reality it was as the crown princess. She knew it could be dangerous but they had been so safe here, so secure. She felt Ivan squeeze her hand and she lifted her head up a little, her pink eyes flicking over to their hands before she looked up at him when he pushed a strand of her hair back. She shook her head. " Thank you. And...don't worry about it. I had to tell you eventually, after all my parents are probably discussing the very thing right now." she still had a mildly detached tone to her voice, before she breathed out and tried to push her anxiety out with it. Unsuccessfully,
tab She had a year to adjust but it was always hard, the memory and lingering thoughts of Calypso around every corner. She chewed her lip before she felt him catching her chin again, her eyes moving up to his again as she saw his eyes darken slightly, a chill coming over her at his words. He seemed deadly serious and she could tell he had some sort of experience she didn't have. She had heard stories of the cold land that was Hyouden, and she was surprised that a lot of the men came back with horror stories, and less of the landscape. However she knew too that soldiers went to fight, that was the point of the training they went through. She herself had watched some of the trainings and while she didn't enjoy the violent nature of them she also knew she'd have to steel herself for worse things to happen potentially, especially now. She wasn't able to hide the emotions in her eyes as she kept her gaze locked on his and she knew that he'd be able to read her like an open book.
tab " I know." she was fully aware after seeing the state her sister was left in that she herself could be placed into that situation. She hoped not, but after meeting Ivan she felt a little hint of relief, this man could and seemed willing to keep her safe as well as the loyal guards. She picked up on it late, but saw a hint of softness returning despite the dark look in his eyes still. When his hand dropped from her chin she breathed out and squeezed his hand as she kept her head up although not as high now that his hand had dropped to cover hers. " I know...and it's scary. I want to do my best for my kingdom...my people," she looked down at her lap again as she felt some anxiety threatening to raise again. " Perhaps it is. Mother was insistent on continuing with it, I know she's taking the whole thing as well as me." which was pretty bad, all things considered. She knew her mother wouldn't say out loud how badly the bothered her, but she had to keep her appearance up. As did Alosa.
tab " I'm sorry to hear you've experienced similar loss." she said in a quiet whisper, before she looked back up at him, her breath catching slightly at the confidence that this man already had in her and her kingdom. Sure they may have just been pretty words said to calm her spirits but something about the way he said it and how he looked at her made her wonder if he meant them. She nodded her head after a moment and her smile returned, although not as innocent as it was when they first met. She knew that they'd have tough conversations, and they were needed. Especially this one. It was the hardest and she didn't entirely expect it to come up so soon but it was good it had. She felt better already, knowing he seemed to have her back and she felt confident enough that she could report that back to her parents. " I appreciate your words, something tells me you mean every single one." the princess was nothing except transparent, her eyes meeting his at her next words. " I feel safer with you here already. I'm sure our kingdom will do good with that layer of protection."
tab Wanting to both stay on topic and defer away from sad subjects she leaned against him again, resting her head on his shoulder. " Speaking of protection- I know that Hyouden is well known for being like you said, thriving in the harshest situations." she started, her eyes looking out and over at the bushes across the way, watching a pair of dragonflies flying around. " How much of what you have in Hyouden, can be appropriately taken into consideration here? I don't want to scare people but...if someone is coming after the heirs to the throne, I want to make sure that myself and my people are safe." she tried to keep her tone confident but there were little hints of doubt in it. She didn't know much, that's why she was asking him. One thing she was known for was asking questions, and she didn't shy away from most of them, even if they were tough. " The...brutal way Calypso was...." she trailed off before leaning back up and shaking her head, shaking away the mental image that popped up. " It makes me think there's a grudge. It was...too personal, to just be an attack." she then shifted slightly on the bench and turned her legs a little towards him as she looked up at him. " I don't want any of my people to get hurt in my place. Not them, not servants and especially not you. I know this isn't easy." she paused for a moment before smiling slightly. " I know we can make this work. Our differences will pave the way for us to both become what we need."
tab She really hoped they would be able to make a union between Ice and water work. In reality Ice was just a harder version of Water, although she knew the kingdoms boiled down to more than that. She was overwhelmed at first but the easy way they had met, with getting soaked and playing little tricks on each other, it all made the transition much easier. She knew they had to discuss the hard stuff, and she was okay to do so now, but she also wanted him to know that she had the confidence that they would be able to make a marriage work, even if it was just a political one. She'd like it to be more, like with her parents, but she knew that she had to do what she must for her kingdom and her people. She had to make them happy, and safe.
