Evelyn found Ivan in her dungeons, beaten and blindfolded. Call it morbid curiosity or stupidity, but she bonded with the prisoner - learned his life story and even felt pity. She set him free, and in the process of his escape, he took many lives.
Here is how their story started :

The dungeons had, once upon a time, been empty more often than they were full. It was something that Evelyn naively considered a good thing, that it meant her country was merciful…when in actuality it meant the exact opposite. There was no need for full cells when criminals were killed more often than not. Even if her parents kept her out of the loop of most things, Evelyn heard plenty from the castle staff gossiping with each other. It was through the grapevine of chatty women that she learned about her country’s intelligent but no-less ruthless war tactics, about the poverty many of her people suffered, and most recently, about an unnamed man being locked up in the castle’s dungeons. The first prisoner in Evelyn’s lifetime, which meant he was incredibly important in some way.
Her curiosity got the better of her, as it often did. It was all too easy for her to sneak her way through the castle past guards and staff alike. Adrenaline thrummed in her veins as she quietly descended the long, spiraling stone staircase that lead down into the dungeons. The way was illuminated by candles sitting on shelves carved into the stone, casting her in warm, golden light. By the time she reached the bottom of the steps, her heart was pounding so hard she could feel it in her ears, and her stomach felt ready to flip. Maybe this was a bad idea. No, actually, it definitely was a bad idea. Who knew what would happen if she got caught? Her reasoning wouldn’t matter to either of her parents.
—But even still, Evelyn pressed on. The dungeon wasn’t very large, consisting of only six medium-sized cells and one smaller, more secure one at the back. It was in that one where this prisoner was being held. She really should go right back up the stairs and forget all about this foolish little curiosity. What if the prisoner broke free? What if he used her as a shield while escaping? Her mind went to far worse places and Evie quickly shook her head, forcing the thoughts out with a grimace. Despite all the warnings, she pressed on. The further into the dungeons she stepped, the warmer it got, until sweat was beginning to bead at the nape of her neck and beneath her breasts.
‘Why the hell is it so warm?’ She thought, confused and irritated by the heat at the same time. Even that couldn’t deter her though and soon Evelyn’s steps ceased, leaving her standing an arm’s length away from the cell. The heat seemed to be coming from red crystals embedded into the walls of the last two cells, each one glowing hot. It hurt to even look at them, not that the Princess’s attention was on them long. She was soon looking at the very reason she had come to the dungeons, the source of her gnawing curiosity.
The man was chained to the floor of the cell, with ghostly pale skin and just as pale hair. He was large and had the body of someone very dangerous. He was drenched in sweat it seemed, droplets slowly rolling off the tip of his nose. The heat was certainly agitating, but it seemed to be affecting the prisoner far worse than her.
‘Acclimated to a colder climate, probably…’ Evelyn thought to herself, eyeing the man curiously. She wanted to know why he was there, where he was from, anything and everything she could; but her nerves had her silent, the only sign that she was even in front of the cell was the quiet sound of her breathing and the almost inaudible shuffle of her boots.

" If I killed that many. Why haven't they killed me yet?" At this point, the real question was how often Ivan had asked himself that question. Nine hundred and eighty-four, or was the death toll four hundred ninety-eight? Sitting back and counting the victims in his most recent raid was proving to be futile. It wasn't hardly as soothing as he'd imagined it would be. "That's because losing kingdoms count corpses." He reminded himself. Oh yeah, that was funny. The admission ripped a dry chuckle from his throat that bounced off the smooth stone walls around him and then echoed back—sounding eerily similar to a death rattle the slaves made near the end of their fickle lives. The thought forced a tremble down his spine despite the unbearable heat in the room. Seven frozen hells. Great. He'd devolved into self-pity and reluctantly began humoring himself on his slow descent into insanity. But honestly, why not laugh? In all reality, death would be visiting soon... If it wasn't already here. The two inferno friends hovering at his back were surly distant cousins of death. Curse and torment he named them, and their sole purpose in the world was to melt the skin off his bones. Their attacks were like timed clockwork, pulsing out radiating heat in waves that slammed against the exposed skin on his back every five minutes. Drawing out more precious moisture than his body could create. That was their plan: to drain him dry and keep him brittle so they would stand a chance if he ever got out. They would be so unlucky if that came to pass. Whatever kingdom this was, it sure didn't believe in a quick and painless death. No, they wanted Ivan to suffer. Which, with all things considered from the crusted blood still stuck beneath his fingernails and the growing death toll, was entirely fair. There was some inkling of respect to give them. This torture chamber made them more cruel and intelligent than he would ever give any kingdom outside of Hyouden credit for; whoever they were, they knew how to research his kind. But it wouldn't be surprising if they were familiar with the frigid death that followed in the wake of a ' Ded Morzo'. Meaning they knew where he was from and what he could do to them. What he had already done to them. That was why they were smart for keeping him here, locked so far beneath the earth's crust that no window left open by mistake could grant him access to the outside world. The dungeon was suspended in a dead earth so no revitalizing breath of cold air could thread through his fingers by mistake... And then there was this <********> heat. Another timed scorch ripped into his back as though Torment and Curse could hear his thoughts and made the unanimous decision that he deserved another whipping for them. His body seized against the onslaught of radiating heat that bore into him. The only clue of his agony was the rattling chains that resonated through the cobblestone prison as he fought to contain a howl from breaking past his lips. When it finally subsided, Ivan's body fell limp. Well, as far forward as the chains would allow him to. Each attack had him sweating. Whatever hot box from funkazan this was, it kept his internal temperature so high that sweat could no longer vaporize from his skin like usual. Strange how torturous it was to feel the water he so desperately needed form into beads that slipped off his skin. He could hear each bead drop as it hit the ground in a steady song that echoed in the small space. Then the song's tune shifted, and the musical echo in front of Ivan grew muffled. His head gave an animalistic c**k to the side as his ears strained to locate the slight difference that had changed the dynamic in the room. They may have blindfolded him in some feeble attempt to keep their identities hidden, but that didn't mean he couldn't still sense them. With nothing better to pass the time between heated lashes, he'd done well keeping count of their visits. His captors only came three times a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening to provide only enough sustenance to keep his heart pumping. And once, at midday. How he looked forward to mid-day. When they would enact different torture methods to try and get him to speak. It never worked. He knew better than to let any secrets past his lips. But he couldn't help feeling like he deserved it, like some form of penance for endangering his uncle, his family, and all of Hyouden as soon as the blunt object knocked him out. Waking up in the dungeon proved his mission had been thwarted. There was no worse beating than that. Failure. Still, this was different—something out of the regular schedule. Ivan could sense her; the gentle inhale and exhale of this stranger's breath was as loud as a battle horn sounding seconds before the impending doom. Snapping his head up, he stared through the blindfold. He waited to hear the change in their breathing before lurching forward, yanking on the chains with so much force the metal groaned. Torment and Curses hummed to life behind him. The unexpected lashing racking down Ivan's spine had him arcing away from it. His groan in agony shifted into fueled hatred that he spewed towards the person who brought this untimed attack on him. "Если ты собираешься меня убить! Просто сделай это! The shattered words crumbled through clenched teeth as he fought to contain a scream. Even through his poisonous tone, he hoped they could understand his demand for death. After what felt like an eternity, the lashing finally subsided, leaving Ivan to crumble back onto the ground. Strained breaths burned his throat, and his sandpaper tongue darted out in an attempt to lick the blood off his cracked lips. Through his rapid breathing, Ivan could no longer tell if the person was still there... "Vater." He spoke into the silence. The common tongue was ugly.. and he didn't know much of it, but through his exhaustion, he let a small plea weave into the ugly word. "милосердие Ангел Смерти." OOC : Если ты собираешься меня убить! She almost, perhaps more than just almost, felt sorry for the man before her. Evelyn was many things, a bleeding heart being one of the biggest, and even the white-haired man had killed her people…well, she was sure her people had returned the favour and then some. It was war, people died. Torturing this man wasn’t going to bring any of them back. Even still, Evelyn could not bring herself to move from her spot, stuck in a limbo between staying, speaking with him perhaps, and leaving never to return. She should go, most definitely. Her mind was just about made up as she took a quiet inhale and shifted to begin walking away.
Then he looked at her. No, surely not, his eyes were blindfolded, and yet she could feel unseen eyes burning into her, setting Evelyn’s heart racing and a chill racing down her spine. She didn’t dare move now, refused to even breathe in case he could somehow hear her. Apparently, he did, suddenly lurching toward her and making Evelyn let out a warbling squeal as she staggered backwards and fell promptly on her butt with a grunt. Her hands flew up as if to protect herself, eyes squeezed shut tight…then heat. Hotter than the hottest summer day, hot enough to burn, to hurt your eyes if you looked at it. Squinting past her lowering arms, she watched as the crystals lit up like angels, blazing and horrific.
‘Be Not Afraid,’ her mind thought. She was safe, thanks to the angels…but at what cost?
Pity, fresh and cool washed over Evelyn’s heart as she watched the man suffer, calling out in a tongue she did not speak. It sounded familiar but her mind was blank, her eyes squeezing shut once more to keep the blinding light of the crystals at bay. Evelyn stayed like that, curled on the floor like a cowering child until the security system finally died away, dormant once more.
Blinking through the familiar and now comforting darkness, Evelyn gasped softly at the sight of the man now. His pale skin was left red and steaming, just barely on the cusp of blistering while sweat poured from him. The fact that he was still alive was some sort of miracle, equal parts amazing and terrifying. Swallowing thickly, Evelyn let her body relax somewhat against the cool stone while her hand braced to push herself back to her feet to flee.
“Vater.”
He spoke, stilling her once more. The word was thick with his foreign tongue but after a few dragging moments, and the man saying something in his own language, Evelyn’s brain clicked into place. Her face lit up with understanding. “Water? Y-Yes, sure, hold on.” She sputtered softly, scrambling to her feet in order to scurry away. The sound of her steps faded further and further away, taking her back up the stairs and eventually, so far that he could no longer hear her. The silence that followed seemed to stretch forever, so long that she must not be coming back. She must have used the opportunity to run away, to leave the pale man forgotten and burning in the dungeon.
About ten minutes later, the hasty tapping of shoes grew louder and louder, eventually joined by ragged breathing. Skidding to a stop in front of the cage, Evelyn hastily pushed her hair out of her face and adjusted her glasses. She’d gone to get a decanter of water and a glass but now she wondered how to go about getting the prisoner the water. There was no way she was dumb enough to open the cell or to stick her arm through the bars. Chewing on her lip in thought, Evelyn finally uncorked the decanter and began, with shaking hands, to fill the glass. Taking a deep breath through her nose and set the glass bottle down with a quiet clink. As she exhaled, the glass began to glow golden yellow and lift slowly up off the ground. Evelyn’s gaze was locked with it, her honey-brown eyes glowing the same shade of gold as the glass drifted carefully toward Ivan, just barely fitting through the bars as it did. Once in front of the man’s face, Evelyn swallowed again and began to tip it toward his mouth.
“Drink.” She said, speaking as clearly as she could while trying to make sure he could get something to drink.
