It occurred to her that what she as doing was probably wrong. The last few days Fiorella had been scurrying up a tree near the Lunar encampment as a chipmunk and lounging about in the trees as she attempted to overhear anything of importance she could relay back to her father. This was the first opportunity since the last little incident with Funkazan where she'd been stuck in a small forest fire as a deerling to prove to her father that she was useful and competent. It wouldn't be the first time she'd wandered over enemy lines and overheard something useful anyway. This was going to be cakewalk! She was determined, after all.

                                        Or...

She had been for, like, the first couple of hours. Now that she'd been hopping from tree to tree for going on four days, the boredom of what she actually signed up to do was starting to gnaw at her. There was only so much talk about preferred places to use the restroom in the woods surrounding them and weird bragging about their swords or powers or whatever else they felt like having a pissing contest about in the moment that she could take. Especially in such a tiny body. It didn't hurt to become such a small creature. Or a larger creature for that matter. Just the odd sensation of feeling cramped in her own skin.

Maybe that was why this time she'd decided to undo the magic binding the chipmunk skin to her and returned to her normal, human body. It wasn't like anyone would notice. These soldiers seemed to be too carefree to give away any secrets, which of them would truly think to look up? Or, that was her justification at least as the tree gave a small groan at the added weight. But she'd been careful to pick a strong branch. It was able to take the added weight without too much protest.

The only problems she hadn't considered were the breeze and her long hair. Her hair tumbled over the branch, fluttering in the breeze as it did so, a sure sign to anyone with half of a brain that something was up in her tree. Not that she noticed as she laid there, letting her cramped muscles stretch and relax for the first time in days.

Astennu had been assigned to one of the border camps that at the current moment and the foreseeable future would be his home. He hadn’t wanted to come but listened as he should. This war to him was nothing more than what felt like a bunch of children bickering amongst one another. The slight breeze of the evening blowing through the branches of the trees that surrounded the compound. The guards and soldiers on guard yet still some how managing to take it easy. He was amazed at how well they had seemed to take this posting. Shaking his head he stood up from his chair and walked to the edge of the camp over looking the forest around the camp. A couple of the guards noticing him as they laughed and walked along quickened their pace straightening up before walking past and back to their joking manner.

He looked around the trees and one had stuck out to him in particular. There was something about it that seemed off. He paused and stared at the tree for a moment longer. The moon had made it self known. He stuck his hand down next to his side as he started to move closer. The next breeze that blew something caught his eye and it was long hair that had been blowing. He barely caught a glimpse of it as he walked up to the tree.

Pausing he looked up and saw a woman in the tree relaxing on the branch. He cleared his throat loudly. “So should I even bother asking what you are doing up a tree? He asked simply and waited for a reply from her. He wouldn’t be sure what to do with her in this case should she wish to fight let alone if he managed to take a prisoner of war. Hell for all he knew though this woman was someone that lived in the forest and didn't know what was going on. He sighed continuing to keep an eye on her.

It had been hard to pay any mind to the footsteps below her tree. They were common at this point. Why would it be anything to have concern about? Especially since whoever they belonged to was being so silent.

“So should I even bother asking what you are doing up a tree?"

Fiorella jumped at the question, immediately realizing that it was directed at her. Part of her questioned if she should return to being a chipmunk. It would be fast and she could run away and forget about all of this. It wouldn't be her fault per se if Luna now started skewering every chipmunk for the rest of time and they became a tasty barbecued delicacy for decades to come chasing chipmunks into extinction. Her hand moved to her stomach to brush the furs and start the transformation...

                                        Only the skin was gone.

Opening her eyes, Fiorella panicked. Only, she couldn't panic. This was still her time to shine. To prove that just as much as anyone else, she belonged on the front lines. She was going to need to come up with a cunning plan to get out of this. And the first step was finding her skin.

"No." She answered him simply, rolling over with enough care to keep as much of herself covered as possible for his sake. People from other countries tended to get weird about the whole not having clothes when she shifted thing. Bodies were bodies, but she didn't need him freaking out on her while she was trying to figure out how to get away as painlessly as possible with the least amount of long-term chipmunk damage.

Meeting his eyes for a moment, she let her gaze drop to his boots. Where one of them was stepping on her precious fur. Be mad about it later. Fiorella reminded herself. Then she pointed down at the skin under his shoe from her branch. "I need that. Could you hand it to me?"

Astennu looked at her as she spoke the simple answer back. “So I shouldn’t ask why you are on the Luna borders in a tree? Got it.” He said with a chuckle. She spoke again while pointing to the ground and more so to his boot. He looked down following the trace of her finger and saw that his boot was on a small pelt. Taking a side step he bent down and lifted it. The chipmunk pelt had dust on it from being under his boot. He dusted it off and looked back at her. “You need a chipmunk pelt? Isn’t it a little small for you?” He asked holding onto the pelt in his left hand. It was soft and well-maintained.

“ I may give it back if you tell me the real reason you are in a tree..” The breeze blowing once more. The evening shifting from day to night was cool and clear. He stayed holding the pelt. “Just seems a little strange that you are up there and want such a small pelt.” He was trying to hold onto the moment and gather as much information as he could from her. He wasn’t sure if she was here to spy or maybe like he had originally thought and was just a local person who had an interest in nature.

“So I shouldn’t ask why you are on the Luna borders in a tree? Got it.”

She nodded, more to her self than anyone else. It was good that he seemed to be picking up what she was putting down. Literally. He had bent and picked up her pelt with more care than she had expected out of a soldier from Luna. Even more interestingly, he seemed to be patting it off and making sure he hadn't ruined it. Narrowing her eyes, she gave him a once over again to make sure she was definitely from Luna. His armor was of Luna and he definitely was not one of her father's men. He was too young, too close to her own age. His pale skin almost seemed to glow in the moonlight, a contrast to his dark hair. Fio was undecided on if his glowing skin was related to a power, or a symptom of his pallid complexion.

“You need a chipmunk pelt? Isn’t it a little small for you?” A rich laugh straight from her belly rumbled out of her before she could help herself. Yeah, maybe it was too small for her now. If only he knew. Though when he continued, frustration replaced her amusement. “I may give it back if you tell me the real reason you are in a tree... Just seems a little strange that you are up there and want such a small pelt.”

Chewing on the inside of her cheek, Fio sat up. She didn't have the patience to play at the game of modesty, or her complete lack there of. This all could have been avoided so easily. But no, she just had to stretch her legs. "You will give it back to me. Unless Luna soldiers like to steal personal property?" She cocked her head at him, goading him on. At the same time, she swung her leg over the branch to shift from straddling it to dangling both legs over the same side.

And then she dropped from the tree.

Walking the few steps that separated them, she took advantage of the stunned realization most had when she was untransformed to grasp her skin. Tugging on it, Fio met the stranger's eyes. "This is mine."

Astennu watched as she shifted in the trees. She was short with her answers and she had sat up draping her legs over the one side of the tree. He shook his head and smirked. “You think that Luna soldiers would steal from someone?” He asked as he dusted it off one more time. He did have to admit that she looked good in the evening light. But as she jumped down from the tree he realized one thing about her and it was the clothing or lack thereof. He blinked a couple of times as he looked at her. “Umm, I…uh... No personal property is strictly off limits.” He said as he looked away for a moment.

The next thing he knew she had taken steps closer to him and grabbed the pelt. “Oh, Uhh yeah sure.” He said as she pulled and he released the pelt to her grip. He stood there for a moment trying his best not to stare at her. He couldn’t help but look and scan her up and down while trying to hold a more neutral look. “Well, it looks like you have it now... I suppose you are going to run away now?” As he ran a hand through his hair. He felt confused he knew in the back of his head he should call the guards and get her detained to be questioned but at the same time, she hadn’t done anything to prompt him to require that.

Astennu took a couple of steps back and watched her. But after a moment he thought about it and looked back at her stepping back and taking hold of the skin again. "Unfortunately against what I am thinking I am going to need you to come with me. I need to know what you are doing out here." Holding the skin and then reaching out and taking hold of her. "Just a couple of questions and if I am satisfied with your answers you can be on your way." He felt somewhat bad about taking a prisoner if you can even call her that. His grip was firm but not enough to bruise or hurt just enough to get her to move along with him. He let go of the pelt and reached up taking the cloak off of his shoulders after undoing the clasp and managed to get it around her shoulders. "Here we don't need the other men seeing you like that."

“Well, it looks like you have it now... I suppose you are going to run away now?”

Fiorella laughed a little as he seemed to back away from her, dropping the tether between them like it was far heavier than the tiny skin it was. "I suppose that would be smart." She quirked her brow at him, unable to help the smile on her face at his comment. Though it seemed to change his mind and he stepped back into her, saying something about questioning and getting answers.

Watching this boy was confusing. He was handsome, and the peek of his wrist under the cuff of his sleeve had dark lines that she could recognize as tattoos in the evening light threading over it. Between his strong frame and how he held himself there was power. But there was also a gentle hesitance. The way he released the pelt between them, only to realize how foolish his actions had been. His grasp her wrist was surprisingly gentle, enough that she knew if she really tried she could break his grip. But there was something she could understand in it all. If she had been less foolish tonight they wouldn't be in this mess. Besides, it was smarter to go along with him than to reveal all of her cards.

She tensed at his sudden movement, unclasping his cape and maneuvering it over her shoulders with one hand. "Here we don't need the other men seeing you like that." While she wasn't ashamed at her state of dress, the realization that this was easier for both of them had her free hand hugging the cape closed over her body. The path of least resistance would get her home faster, so she let him lead her further into the camp. The delicate way he grasped her felt more like she was a secret lover being escorted to his tent than their actual situation.

"Oh, so the other men seeing me would be a problem then?" Fio teased him. She just needed to answer a few questions and he'd let her go. Panicking would only look suspicious. "Worried about your reputation?"

Astennu guided her though the main part of the camp to a large central tent. It felt like he was trying to sneak in a woman for his entertainment. The sneaking wasn’t the case though the entire camp watched as they passed through. The men bowing their heads as he passed before moving on. “It would have been smart to run the moment I let go but I assume you have your own reasons for not doing so.. Or maybe you wanted to stick around so you can look at me more.” He chuckled to himself as he continued to hold onto her wrist. He was trying to formulate what he needed to ask hoping that maybe with the few questions he would be able to find out what she was doing on the boarder of the Luna kingdom.

He looked over his shoulder at her as they walked getting into the tent letting her in first. “Well, I would think that if they see me with a woman they would want to rebel since they have been away for so long.” He paused the tent was set up with a bed, desk, and the basics of what he would need as an officer. He looked around and lead her to a seat. He smirked and looked her up and down. “Not worried about my reputation at all. Maybe I just wanted to be the only one to see you like that.” He chuckled again and sat on the opposite side of the desk from her.

“So I am going to ask nicely first.. What are you doing on the boarder? You do know that there is a war happening correct?” He continued to look at her letting his gaze linger on her for a moment while waiting on her answer. He really couldn’t help it since he found her attractive but on that same note had no idea who she was. He inwardly sighed to himself. Reaching over to the side of the desk he pulled out a green glass bottle and two glasses. He really had no idea what to do in this case and assumed that maybe a drink would help. Pouring the red liquid into the two glasses he looked at her and slid it across the table with a sigh. “I know that this is strange but I would rather error on the side of being kind than assuming I am a horrible person.” He however wanted answers and wanted to get them as he could.

She couldn't help but shrug playfully at his comment. "Who can say? Maybe I thought you would appreciate the view if I stuck around a little longer." Smiling, Fio let the stranger lead her through the camp. In a way, maybe this had actually been the smarter choice. Watching the men bow to this dark haired stranger meant that he was someone with power. It would be useful to know exactly who he was. Maybe that was information she could give to her father to prove her place out here once and for all. It was such an ingenious plan.

The tent she was led to was fairly unremarkable outside of the fact that he seemed to be the only one using it. Even her father shared a tent, though just as often they also slept out under the stars. A small part of her wondered if this was the norm in other countries as well and not just Luna. Was Thah the odd country out where the clans chose to rally under a strong leader? Thinking back on it, she couldn't recall seeing any women over the last four days. And the nods of several of the men had turned into curious stares. Did Luna not employ women in the war either?

And people thought Thah was backwards.

He lead her to a seat at the desk, gesturing as if she should sit. So she did. Crossing her legs, she watched him look her up and down before sitting opposite of her. "I can't say I blame you. It's a nice view." She teased, batting her eyelashes at him for a moment. If she was going to get questioned by a member of the enemy army, she would at least have fun while it happened. Besides, he had started flirting with her first. Where was the fun in leaving him hanging?

His question about the war made a genuine laugh bubble out of her throat. Tears started welling in her eyes from how hard she was giggling, forcing her to wipe them before responding. "I would be shocked if there are people who don't know there's a war going on out there. Ah, thank you." She accepted the liquor from him when he offered, not risking picking up his nice glass when her core was still quivering from trying to hold back giggles. The last thing she needed to do was spill it on herself or drop the glass and shatter it. "No, I just happen to live nearby and was sunning myself. Honestly, I might have fallen asleep." Fio paused, finally picking up the glass and taking a sip. As she did so, she allowed her own eyes to wander. If he was going to look, she could too. "Maybe you should try it. It's relaxing. And I sure wouldn't mind the view." A mischievous smile spread over her face and she couldn't help but wink at him. "And for the record, I don't think you're horrible."

Setting the glass back down in front of her, she looked up at him. "What now? Do I have to go now? Or is it my turn to play twenty questions?" Leaning forward, Fio couldn't quite bring herself to care that his cloak didn't stay in place where it really needed to for it to offer cover. Especially not as she leaned forward and placed her elbows on the table and her chin in her hands. "If you answer my questions, this passes as a first date. Wouldn't you say?"

Astennu looked at her and smirked. “Oh believe me I like the view more than you know.” He was trying his best to play along with what was happening. He would admit that she was very attractive. For now though his job was to see what she knew if anything. He couldn’t get a read on her but was doing his best to try. Little did he know he had invited someone that would be fairly important right into the heart of his camp. He shook his head when she said she couldn’t blame him for looking. “So the hard part is being away for so long from home. Can’t have very much to enjoy out here. Shame really.” He was hoping by bringing out conversation she may slip up and admit something he can use. He really couldn’t help as he took a drink from the glass to look at her more.

Nodding and saying “You might be surprised about the number of people that are completely oblivious to what is going on.” As she took the Liquor and said her thanks he smiled. “You’re welcome. Hopefully you like it.” As she spoke about sunning herself he took a mental note. “ So you live near by and didn’t know that this was here? We just so happened to be near your home? You wouldn’t do that at your home?” He may have prodded a little bit but was trying to be nice and cordial about it although that might have just gone out the window. As she picked up and took a sip of the drink she recommended that he should try to sun himself. “Hmm, maybe I will give it a try at some point. You might just have to be near by if you want a look.” He took another drink and offered a wink back to her. “Well, that is good to know that you don’t think I am horrible.”

Raising a brow “Oh no, You don’t need to leave at all. What questions do you have?” As she leaned forward and the cloak decided it wouldn't stay put and revealed more to him. He was trying his hardest not to stare.. Well not completely stare. He couldn’t help it after all not with how she looked. As she leaned forward and rested her chin in her hands asking a question that caught him a little off guard. “I would say that would count if you really wanted it to.. But that depends on your questions in the end.”

A small snicker fell out of Fiorella as her answer seemed to cause more questions to fall out of the stranger's mouth. Covering her mouth, she met his eyes while trying to swallow down the laugh that was starting to make her shoulders shake a little bit. He was just far too serious. And yet somehow still so willing to play along with her. "Do you know everything within a twenty mile radius of your home?" Looking away for a moment to try to collect herself, her voice shook with the giggles she was desperately trying to contain.

Her eyes held a playful glint when she was finally able to meet his again. "Sunning at home? Where's the fun in that? We wouldn't have met if I hadn't picked that tree." She pretended to pout for a moment. Hiding behind her glass for a second to take a quick sip, she continued. "I don't know about you, but I prefer how this ended up shaking out. It wasn't a lie. Yeah, blah blah blah it was not great getting captured by enemy forces. And sure, if daddy heard about this she would be forbidden from spying anymore. But that was the great thing about daddies. What they didn't know wouldn't hurt them.

“Oh no, You don’t need to leave at all. What questions do you have?”

Smiling, Fio stood slowly. She didn't want to spook him or make him think she was trying to flee, but this pesky desk between them? Not a fan. Her fingers glided across the wood as she stepped around the desk towards him. Once she stood next to him, she pulled herself up to sit on the desk before him. Placing one of her feet onto the seat of his chair next to his leg, she met his gaze again. "Well for starters I was hoping you'd tell me your name." Her hand whipped up to her mouth again to catch another snicker. "This would be a pretty crappy date if I walked away without even knowing who you are. With that in mind -" She cut herself off, offering her hand to him. "Fiorella."

He set down his glass on the desk off to the side and leaned back in the chair. He noticed her shoulders shake a little bit. His eye brow rose. “Trying to stifle something or are you cold?” He asked with a smirk. Shaking his head “Hmm, something like that. But that's just a guess really.” The shake in her voice barely coving up the fact she wanted to laugh. “Go ahead and let it out. Nothing going to happen if you laugh. And if you are cold I'm sure we can fix that as well.”

Resting his hands behind his head as he leaned back in the chair. “Well that is very true, That would be very unfortunate not having a chance to meet you.” She hid behind her glass and he reached over taking his up once more taking another drink. “I agree this is much more pleasant more fun and a much better view.” He offered a wink. If his own father let alone a higher officer were to find out that he had a strange woman in his camp they would likely never let him out on campaign again. But the risk to him was well worth the reward he was currently treated to.

As she stood he slowly adjusted to be sitting back up straight in his seat. Her body language wasn’t showing her wanting to run but he wanted to be on guard just in case she took off. After a few moments she had been running her hand across the desk and toward him. He watched as she sat on the desk and set a foot next to his leg in the seat of the chair. Her first question which caught him as being rude to a now guest at least for the moment was his name. “I apologize how rude of me.” He said as her hand went to cover her mouth and then she spoke again. “That would be very unfortunate to happen on a first date now wouldn’t it?” He took her hand looking slightly up to her and smiled. “Astennu.” He said simply taking note of how she cut herself off at the end of the sentence before saying her name.

"Astennu." She parroted his name back to him, testing the weight of it on her tongue. It was foreign. Awkward and heavy in he mouth as she said it. Entirely unlike any other name she knew. Yet, Fiorella found herself liking it. It suited him in a way that she wasn't quite sure she understood.

Or maybe it was that this foreign soldier was a mystery to her as well. Leaning back for the drink she'd been given, her eyes darted to the flap of the door fluttering in the breeze. The world beyond had grown dark. Her father would worry if she wasn't back soon. And that worry would soon grow into a mounting attack she wasn't sure she was willing to risk. The risks were too great, and she had to convince herself it wasn't because of the boy in front of her. She wanted the opportunity to learn more from him.

Letting her gaze fall back to Astennu, she sighed into her cup. "Would you believe that my father will be angry if I'm not home soon?" The truth dripped from her lips with more regret than she would have liked. They'd known each other maybe an hour, and it wasn't like this was anything more than her getting out of a bad situation the cleanest way possible. If she was lucky, her father wouldn't hear about the naked girl that had been pulled through camp by an enemy officer. Shifting her weight to scoot off of the desk, she started walking toward the opening in the tent. "If you're lucky you might see me again."

The fact that he let her cross the threshold of the tent was shocking, but then most of his actions had seemed to be plagued with indecision. With any luck Fio would learn why. She tucked herself out of sight before letting her magic take over, the chipmunk pelt still in her hands twisting and shaping her frame until the cape he'd given her covered her tiny form and she was able to dart off into the night unseen.

Only over the next day she hadn't been able to stop thinking about the feeling she'd had in that man's tent. It was a secret. An alluring one. And getting to learn more and more about someone who might be an enemy? It was like dangling a carrot before a bunny. And she was exactly the sort of girl who was willing to take a risk if the reward seemed good enough. Which was how she'd found herself slipping into his tent the next night while he was away as a mouse. Shuffling through his things, she found a shirt and slipped it over her head. Other countries appreciated modesty, his initial shock had proven he was no different. And then she was left to wait.

As she said his name he felt something in his chest. The sound of his name off her tongue made him feel good. It sounded good coming from her. He looked at her and offered a small smile before saying her name “Fiorella.” It felt good a beautiful name for a beautiful woman. She was a mystery to him. Appearing out of nowhere sunning in a tree of all places. He found himself very curious about her. He knew that he shouldn't be treating others in this area as company but it couldn’t be helped as he looked her over.

He watched as she leaned back for her drink and looked at the tent flaps. Curious about what was going through her head at that moment. He wouldn't stop her if she decided to just bolt but hoped that wasn’t her plan. Although if it got back to his father let alone higher he would be in some serious trouble. The thought swirling around in his head as he took a drink to clear the thoughts and coming back to reality as she spoke. He looked up to her and nodded. “Surprisingly yes I would believe that. And we don't want that do we?” She scooted her self off the desk and started to walk toward the covered opening of the tent. “Only if I'm lucky huh?” He said as he looked her over once more. “Well lets hope I am that lucky then I would like to see you again.”

He stood up and walked to the door as she stepped out to watch her leave. Catching the tail end of the cloak going around a corner. He was curious about what she was doing and went to where it disappeared. Rounding the corner he looked at the ground where his cloak lay in the dirt. Picking it up and holding onto it he looked around to make sure his own men hadn’t been harassing her on her way out. He nodded and spoke to himself “Well lets hope I am lucky.” As he turned and walked back to his own tent for the evening.

Astennu's' mind was a mash of work and thoughts of her. He was curious what she was doing if she was lying everything happening. He shook his head as one of his men approached and they held a quick conversation. The man left after a quick salute and ran to go do his tasks with the others. The days had seemed to come and go quickly. The night approached and it was finally time for him to relax. He walked past the men as they went about their nights and were resting easy in readiness for anything to happen. Brushing the tent flap aside he was greeting by Fiorella. He paused midstride and looked at her. She was clothed this time in one of his own shirts. His mind went blank for a moment as he looked at her and rubbed his eyes. “You’re back? I must be really lucky. ” He said still not believing that she would come back and not have seen her anywhere in the camp.
