Physical Description: Standing maybe 5’5”, Heleste is plump and curvy. All the exercise in Pern is not going to change that. She has muscles under that plumpness though. Creamy skin, green eyes, and auburn curls that are more a mane than hair completes the look.
Personality: Heleste is loud and proud. She exhibits excessive cheerfulness, enthusiasm, and joy in her life. This isn’t forced in anyway, she genuinely enjoys life that much and feels no reason to hide it. She is one of those adventurous try anything once people, though often she will try it a few times before deciding on her opinion. New experiences are not something she craves in the way that some people do, but she certainly enjoys them. And goodness is she loud. Her boisterousness is tiring and she can grate on people. Not that she notices much.
She won’t be pushed around or told what to do just because. She is willful and stubborn. Once her mind is made up it is hard to change it. Heleste has a disorganized life though. Her stuff is always in disarray, she is often late because she forgot she needed to be somewhere, and she will go off on tangents in a conversation for no apparent reason. But she is loyal to her friends and family. Once earned, that loyalty is hard to break. She isn’t sure even murder could break it.

History: Heleste was a typical weyrbrat at High Reaches Weyr, if maybe a little more often in trouble. She did her lessons, her chores, and got along well (in her opinion) with the other children. She was full of life and energy that made her bounce around various ideas and paths, not sticking to one main one for too long. Focus as a kid was hard for her. Candidacy’s first few years were… interesting as she learned to focus and behave as expected. Even as an adult it still runs contrary to her nature to be controlled in her actions. But she learned to fake it for periods of time. Not exactly calm but more honed in actions.
Her favorite part of candidacy was helping with the dragons. Nothing compared to it. Her favorite dragon is Gold Harpiath and she is rather fond of the older rider Amalteia as well. After helping out a few times, Heleste began seeking out Amalteia and telling her all about her adventures and discoveries. It was a new experience to have someone that felt almost like a parent as her own were too busy to interact with Heleste.
When Thread returned, Heleste reacted with horror to the stories and injuries that the riders came back with. Life changed. She knew that Thread was eventually going to return, but did it really have to happen in her lifetime? Couldn’t it have waited? But the prospect of risking her life every week to every day did not deter her from wanting a dragon. Plus Pern needed riders. Who better than her?
Each time she stood she got her hopes up and dashed. The days after were hard as Heleste talked herself through the disappointment and out the other side into hope again. She kept reminding herself that she had time. Maybe next time would be the one!
