NHC was a cultural hub of caste diversity and self-expression. It had residents from all walks of life, living and growing and creating with or around each other. As the residents themselves would say, “It's a disgusting cesspool.”

It was in one of the less affluent districts that Buffel found himself, on his way out after receiving payment for a contract he'd been given. He was meandering through small alleyways between the communal hivestems, a habit he'd picked up to avoid being followed. You never did know who'd want to tie up loose ends.
It was a grim thing to think about, but the gunslinger was in a surprisingly happy mood! He was freshly paid, and soon he'd be able to catch up with Polair. Ignoring that he'd gone off on a useless quest to find himself and lost her to a creepy inventor lowblood, he trotted quickly down the alleyway with what was almost a skip in his step. His day couldn't get any better if he tried.

NHC was the second-likely place Guo would've lived if he wasn't up in the mountains. Probably, anyway. It wasn't anywhere near as impressive, only a little less dangerous in the grand scheme of things... And there were a lot more trolls here. So much mingling, so much crowdly shoving he could do without getting called out for it.

How lovely.

And sometimes...he could lurk. In the mountains you could technically lurk, but it would take a long-a** time to get the jump on anyone. If they even showed up.

But in this shithole, there would always be someone looking for a shortcut. He loved letting the local lowbloods know they should be checking over their shoulder. They should never get too comfortable...

And then while stealthing about, he saw the rare somewhat-familiar mark. Now, what were the odds?

Guo's face adopted a very, very wicked grin.

He slipped in from behind, almost out of nowhere, greeting Buffel with a characteristic stab. "Howdy, paaaard!"

The gunslinger heard a voice behind him. Even while listening for potential attackers, he'd scarcely had time to tuck to the side and turn rightward to face his assailant. Evidently he wasn't quick enough as he felt the sting of a slice across his torso. He winced, air escaping from his mouth in an angry hiss. So much for a good day. As he turned, he saw a face he recognized. Older, matured slightly, but it was definitely him.

”Howdy.”

Catching the highblood's arm as he was still lunged forward in prime stabbing posture, Buffel pulled him close and headbutted him in the jaw, smashing his horns up against him with full force. He pulled away, slightly bleary from the action himself.

How the turntables. Before he knew it, Guo was caught, yanked, and soon found himself seeing stars. And not just on Buffel's horns. He fell back, the wind knocked out of him. And a decent amount of mouth pain.

Guo spit some blood on the ground. The yellowblood might've dislocated one of his teeth! He smirked and leaned on the wall. Not because he needed to rebalance himself or anything.

"Nice to know some lowbloods still know how to give a good old-fashioned Alternian greeting."

The gunslinger wasn't keen to be fighting this psychopath today. It'd been a long time but he remembered the wild-eyed ravenous bloodlust in his eyes before and he saw it here too. Without wanting to continue further, the metal of his prosthetic shifted in an instant, his thumb craning backward into what would be a disturbing angle and his pointer finger's tip receding into itself, becoming a barrel as the rest of his fingers met with his palm's components to turn into the bullet chambers of his six-iron.

In a flash of motion he'd locked, loaded, and fired a bullet clean through the highblood's calf, nothing fatal but enough to certainly immobilize him for a time.

He cleared the gap between them and grasped Guo by his hair, kneeling down to look him in the eye.

"You don't want to see how this continues if you keep tryin' to scrape with me, friend."
