Despite the activity of the city, the hustle and bustle of thousands of trolls on the street below, the hive sat in a strange sort of stasis. Quiet. Money could buy a lot of things, including silence in the noisiest place on Alternia. Here Sarcel sat at a desk, her chair parallel with a large picture window that overlooked the city. In front of her on the table was a single item--a clock--and she watched as the minute hand slowly ticked by.
The rest of her hive was just as bare and unimpressive--it looked unlived in, both in terms of the lack of decor and the fact that not a single speck of dust seemed to exist anywhere.
The knock at the door was jarring, because it broke the little bubble she had built up for herself. She bolted up to her feet and pivoted towards the door just in time to hear the muffled-but-unmistakable voice through the walls. A delivery? Yeah right. Just as she sat back down, Chinchillamom came barreling over. The sound of tiny feet could be heard thumping down the hallway before she got to the door. Her paws uselessly felt all over before she started to scrabble and dig anxiously at the wood.
"Mom, stop." Sarcel mumbled at her lusus, who continued to act as if she had never heard her. Despite her words, she made no effort to enact enforcement.
