Oh by the time this was over, she was actually going to murder someone. She could feel the taint of her family's bloodline running through her veins as she made her way back to the border for a third attempt. Smriti could almost understand why her family was such a hot mess, but she was likewise determined not to be one herself.
She just... had to redeem herself and win. Her cousin was going to make it into the pride before her, and she refused to be pitied in by him at this point. No, Smriti had to make her own way into the world. This was her fight to win. At this point, her disadvantage was even more clear. Smriti walked up to Bast'ion with a noticeable limp in her front leg. In their last fight there had been no intention to actually harm one another, but it was almost inevitable.
s**t happened, and of course with Smriti's luck she'd be on the receiving end of it.
Making her way up to the border, she was almost not surprised to see Bast'ion for a third time. "******** pretty boy," she grumbled to herself before hobbling her way up to the pale lion. She stomped both feet decisively on the ground in front of her, eyes staring sharply up at what could only be an over-confident male by now. "Bring it on, pretty boy."
Was she going to regret this?
Definitely.

Her defeats had apparently given her competitor an ego bigger than the size of his pride, and from what she could discern the pride was fairly large. She stared up at him, ignoring the ache in her muscles, the burns of previous scratches. Any other lioness with good sense would have taken a break to at least recover from their scrapes and bruises. But, Smriti was determined to succeed. Her life had been a series of failures up until meeting her cousin. Now was the time to turn things around.
"I really can't wait to make you swallow your own blood," Smriti chimed in with a smile that was deceptively sweet. Normally she was not so aggressive, but this lion hadn't only defeated her... he had taken pleasure in it. It was time for him to get a taste of his own medicine, for better or for worse.
She didn't actually hate the lion, she just really wanted to win. The only lion she could truly hate was her own mother, but that was a drama for another time. Smriti stalked forward, ignoring the sharp pain in her front leg. It was a sprain, most likely, but she could tend to her injuries after her victory.
"Come at me, then, and don't do that sneaky attack from yesterday - it was really annoying." It had cost her the fight as well.

"I'll be sure to burn the memory of it in my brain when it does happen by my paw," Smriti promised sweetly. Then, the time for talk was over. The dark lioness squared off against her pale opponent. The markings upon her face twisted and were distorted by a scrutinizing frown when Bast'ion charged at her. She tried to read him, but in a fight doing that successfully was hard... especially when one was so ill-prepared as Smriti.
She had no background in fighting. All she had was a purely stubborn will to win.
It was less her own skill, and more Bast'ion's carelessness that led to the next series of events. Smriti grunted as Bast'ion knocked into her with enough force to push her back. The two lions toppled to the ground, and his paw made a strong smack against her shoulder. In that moment when he stuck at her, she noticed his pale underbelly, unprotected by his massive main and obviously open for a counterattack.
She was not one to pass up on such an opportunity.
Her rear legs suddenly kicked up hard against his underside, claws unsheathed. It was a nasty attempt at an attack, but Smriti couldn't hold back against this lion.

She felt the slow trickle of warm blood drip down onto her from his underside. Blood had never unsettled her - as a rogue lioness nature was brutal. She had killed many things, so seeing him bleed barely caused her to blink an eye. It didn't look life threatening, and that was all that mattered. She doubted she would be allowed in the pride if she happened to kill her opponent during a challenge.
Besides, she didn't want to kill him.
She wanted him to hurt for all the times he had hurt her.
Smriti scrambled back to put some distance between them. "Give up now, you're bleeding badly. Don't be stupid," said the lioness who was stupid enough to challenge him while suffering from a limp. Bast'ion did not seem to take her warning, and she prepared herself for another round with him. The white male charged at her, and Smriti surged forward to meet him. A paw raised to smack him across the face, remembering now to keep her own claws sheathed. If it landed, it would hurt less.
She didn't really want to maim him after all.

Smriti would have commended the lion's fortitude if she hadn't suspected it was just out of pure pride. Surely, she was no different, but in her previous fights she had known when she was outmatched. Bast'ion clearly could not see that he was. "And you're a ******** idiot," Smriti growled at him, ears pinned to the back of her skull. Victory was within her grasp, and she did not want to humiliate him further.
But he just kept coming at her.
She met his neck charge, hissing as claws scraped against her chest. The wound was superficial, but it hurt like none other. Her paw reached up, smacking him across the head again to knock him to the side. It had worked once, she did not see why it would not work again while he was in this blind rage.
Smriti stood above him then, and placed a paw down against his side to hold him to the ground. "Enough, you idiot! You are done - I have won. Stop this s**t before I hurt you." It was too late for that, however. She had already hurt him, the blood was dripping from his mouth and stomach. "s**t... you better be alright."
Great, now she had almost murdered a lion.
She guessed this was her welcoming into the Myrsky Syntynyt.
