Keionx honestly could use a spar too - but then, she always could. Rastin certainly did like to aim for the legs - a good strategy - and it seemed that his style was hit fast, deal a little damage, and keep doing that until the enemy exhausted itself. It was a strategy they would have to work on, refine, make better, but it was a strategy with promise. He'd need a lighter weapon, though...

As she thought this, she was also dodging in the limited space she had - playing defense, letting him go for it... and finding that opening to switch to pushing forward.

God, it really was small in here, wasn't it? How had he only just realized this? It wouldn't be too long until he started feeling claustrophobic if he kept dwelling on it.

He didn't know what made him think this, but it almost seemed like she was going easy on him. Part of him could understand that, he'd just acted like a moron moments before. Still, it was enough of an annoying thought that it made him want to prove that he wasn't worth doubting. He swung again, but this time, decisively toward her torso.

Scythes had range - Keionx wished she knew more about using them. She supposed she'd have to now, but at the moment that was a moot point: she dodged back, knowing she couldn't dodge forever. He seemed to be coming at her with a little more force, now - did he want to prove himself so badly?

Then she'd give him a chance.

She took her opening, and then moved in with sword and shield, a little more serious now... and a little less 'giving' than before.

Oof, probably a little too close for comfort here. He teetered a bit at the force, his feet sliding back, and gave his shoulders a quick roll. Things seemed to be picking up here, now he had to do the same.

He raised his arms up and swung across at full force. It was clear that he was no longer keen on hesitating.

Keionx uses her defense artifact

Keionx ducked behind her shield, feeling the force of Rastin's strike reverberate down her arm. Aha! she grinned, face shining with eagerness and pride. "Good hit - I see that thou art not holding back now!" She forced her way forward, using the bulk of her shield to bruise forward, and then struck. "Keep going!" she called to him, hoping to encourage him to greater feats.

OW. Ow, ow, ow, ow. The force of his scythe colliding with her shield had sent an incredibly unpleasant twang of pain shooting up his arms and over his shoulder blades. It was enough of a shock to send him back a pace and clench his jaw. He'd definitely be feeling that tomorrow.

"Bloody hell." He heaved, shaking loose and finding his footing again. "What's that shield made of?"

Another hard strike - but a scythe wasn't the best for a brute force strike, was it? The leverage looked like it was wrong... But what did she know? She had yet to try it out. Or... ask Vremea? She did miss the yellowblood, and wanted to catch up to her so badly. She'd seen her on the other ship, she hoped that she'd shown how much she'd grown in all these sweeps. Her regard was appreciated.

"... metal." she said, amused, as she went in for another strike.

Rastin uses his artifact

Well, duh, but what else did he expect by asking such an obvious question? Of course it was made of metal. His scythe was made of metal too, so the question really should have been about the type of metal used. Surely they had to be made of differing material. His, sharp like a knife, hers heavy and hard. But these were thoughts for another day.

Now knowing full-well what that shield could do, Rastin gave his scythe a quick flail and flipped it so the metal was behind him. Then, the lantern hanging on the back of the scythe started to glow. He was hoping that this would give him enough time to come up with another plan of attack, but unfortunately, he forgot to look away as the lantern reached it's brightest point and ended up stumbling further to the side. Dammit.

She'd forgotten about the lantern! She didn't duck behind her shield in time, and the light seared her eyes - she aborted her strike and moved back, covering her eyes.

It was a good strategy. Providing one didn't also get blinded. Unfortunately, Rastin did and Keionx's eyes cleared before his did.

"Hiyah!" she exerted, bringing her sword down hard.

Rastin is defeated; Keionx wins!

Dammit, dammit, dammit! Why did he have to go and be such a damn idiot? He just HAD to look at the bright light to make sure it worked and blind himself! What a great way to show his mentor that he was a competent, rational, thinking being.

He took the full force of the blow and slammed, not terribly hard, against the floor while he was furiously trying to rub his eyes back to normal. Now winded and frustrated, he simply let his scythe clang to the side and allowed his eyes to adjust, before blinking up to Kei.

... He probably looked like such an idiot down here.

"Ughh, okay, you win." He huffed, pushing himself up to his feet again and wincing. "... I can't believe I made such a stupid mistake. Why didn't I look away?"

He made a very, VERY, tired expression, one that just exuded the utmost doneness with his own abilities, and sighed.

"This will have to wait until another time, but I would like to try again." He said, blinking again. Was it normal to see bright flashes of light after being blinded? Probably. "If you'll allow me after my performance today, that is."

Keionx held out a hand to help him up after his fall, but retracted it when he helped himself up. "It happens. We'll train with it more, then, and thou wilst learn to look away." she said simply. It had happened - it wouldn't happen again if she could help it.

"Of course - we will continue to train and spar." she gave him a look and a wry smile, "Didst thou think I would let thee off easy?" Of course not. She would train him until he had been forged from rough ore into a sharp blade. Her craft, her artistry, her passion - she would not give up so easily on her students.

"In the yon, now that thou art no longer a-jangle with energy, let us depart to the docking bay and leave this place. Do not worry, I shall be with thee."

"No, no, of course not." Rastin replied, almost smirking at Kei's expression. He was oddly glad to see her happy. Maybe he needed this kind of person in his life? "I'm grateful that you didn't. I would have felt disrespected otherwise."

He leaned down and retrieved his scythe from the ground, before turning back to her.

"Thank you, K-er," He paused, stopping himself just in time. "Rutaca. I'm relieved to have someone as competent as you are as my escort back to the bay. This experience has been world shattering and I'm glad to have good company."
