When given the task of digging, most trolls would begrudge such menial labor, but Frendo was ecstatic. Digging was a favourite hobby of the young orangeblood, and he grabbed his shovel and quickly hurried off to his designated digging spot.

While working, he whistled happily, arms untiring as he dwung the shovel over his shoulder before slamming it back into the soft earth. In what felt like minutes but surely was much longer(time flew when you were having fun!), the little troll came to a stop, having dug his hole deep enough. That was until the troll in command came over and informed him he had to dig deeper. Frendo only smiled and wiped his brow before getting back to work.

Or trying. There was a rather large rock in the ground just inches below where he had already dug to, and he quickly hit it with a resonating ting that vibrated up his arms from the shovel. Frendo frowned ever so slightly before digging around the massive chunk of stone, but even with it uncovered, he wasn't sure how to get it out the hole. It was far too big for him to lift and the other trolls were too busy digging around him to help. He frowned, upset that he couldn't finish his work(which he was determined to do), and began to look about, hoping to catch some trolls eye and manage to wave them over for some help.

Sephos was happy to dig - he'd done a lot of it, for planting, for removing stumps, for generally moving dirt. His arms were strong, his body capable of enduring the strain.

His muscles bulged and glistened with each shoveling, and the dirt he would later have to carry away grew bit by bit. It was not a problem - this was a task he could understand.

His current hole was completed. He wished it would be used to plant, but no - it was much too deep. How deep it needed to go, he realized, was similar to the Lightseeker construction projects. Not the same, but similar enough to help him judge. He sipped some cool juice at the table, thinking about the scope of the project - and worrying for those who were - and would soon be - far far away.

Would they like a tree when they got back? No - they wouldn't be gone long enough for it to put down roots. And it couldn't be here, anyway - too much activity. The fleeting thought was put aside as quickly as it was born - and, equally quickly, he noticed someone else on digging detail. A child. They were... familiar? He wasn't sure from this angle. But they seemed to be having trouble, and Sephos felt rested and willing.

"Hey." he said, walking over and peering into the hole. The rock really was in there, and the hole... not nearly deep enough. That was the problem, then. Without asking permission, he picked up a shovel and began to lever the stone out with careful movements.

After not catching a single eye of any troll working around him(as most who saw him looking their way chose to ignore him), Frendo decided to get back to his impossible task. His eyes were starting to well up with frustrated tears. He wished Laughdads was here to comfort him, or at least let him dig through his pack of medicinal herbs to help ease his anxiety, but neither were here, so he had to fight through the tears and just keep trying.

A shadow soon loomed over him, and before Frendo could wipe his face clear of dirt and tears, the other troll had joined him in his hole and started working on the boulder. Frendo flushed orange, embarrassed to get the help he had technically needed, but he turned even oranger as he realized who was helping him.

It was the troll he had accidently poisoned in the woods not long ago. Oh...oh jeez. Did he not recognize Frendo? Was he just biding his time? Was he gunna dig this rock up and squish him with it?! Frendo wouldn't blame him, as they hadn't separated on good terms in the least.

"U-uh thank ya, s-sir!" he squeaked, nervous of what was about to possibly happen, and knowing as a lowblood that he deserved whatever was dealt out.

"Hrm." Sephos grunted, as he dug up the rock. He couldn't lever it out properly with just the shovel, so he set it aside and picked up the rock with his gloved hands, lifting it up and shoving it outside the hole. He'd have to move it further away, but for now... He climbed out of the hole and then, after a moment of thought, turned back. Wordlessly, he offered his hand to the brownblood to help him out - surely, he would have trouble with getting out on his own, what with his size and all.

The entire time, he was completely oblivious - as always - to the child's fear.

Frendo watched as Sephos lifted the rock out of the whole with, seemingly, ease. The little orangeblood was certain he was next, and if Sephos could get that boulder picked up all on his own, imagine what he could do to him! Frendo swallowed a small lump in his throat, and nearly jumped when Sephos turned back and offered his hand. Frendo wasn't sure what to make of this gesture, and carefully reached out to take the older trolls hand.

He held back a squeak as he was lifted easily from the hole, before quickly, unable to hold it back any longer, cried out, "I'M SO SORRY!" loud enough for other trolls to hear and glance over at, though they quickly got back to work because honestly, it wasn't their business. Frendo didn't even care if he was making a scene, he had to apologize(he never got to really...do so before?) and he had to do it quick, before the greenblood did whatever it was he planned to do(surely he planned to do something as punishment, right?!), so he continued to blather on, "I swur, I didn' know dem was da wrong mushrooms when I offered dem ta ya! I wudn't dare ta do such a thin' on purpose!" big tears had welled up in the little kids eyes, and he visibly shook from how upset he was.

And he added, softly, because maybe it would help his situation, "An'...t-thanks fur da help here..."

... Okay, so maybe he should have used a pully or something. His back began to ache as he got the child out of the hole. He needed to stretch, maybe do some exercises to make it stronger, or just rest a little. He was going to try each... or, he would have, if the orangeblood hadn't started screaming.

Sephos stared at him, startled, gradually recognizing the troll as the kid who'd given him mushrooms. And then... that nightmare... That...

Oh.

"Yeh, uh..." Sephos wasn't sure what to say. That had been... something. A terrifying experience. But he didn't mind. He'd be more careful about mushrooms in the future, but it had never once crossed his mind that it could have been intentionall... or repeated.

[From here on out, posting is for 11/13/17! BETA 2A ]

Frendo was starting to panic at the older troll glowered at him in silence. Oh there had to be something he could do to get this troll to forgive him! Something he could offer to make up for his very dire mistake at their last meeting! The little orangeblood was screaming internally, completely unaware of Sephos' lack of worry about the whole fiasco. He had started wringing his hands as the greenblood continued to stare he down, uttering a single 'Yeh" that Frendo could only take as another bad sign that he was in it deep.

Suddenly, though, from the mess of panic and self-loathing thoughts beginning to cloud his thinkpan, an idea sprang- a solution to his problem!

"L-let me help ya wit yur next task! I-i might be small but I won' s-stop till da job is dun!" his voice nearly cracked with the anxiety coursing through him, but hopefully Sephos would agree to his offer, and he could work hard to gain his forgiveness.

Or die trying!

You do some heavy lifting, assisting the ground crew and even making light conversation with them.

Sephos still wasn't sure what was going on, but... Well, he wasn't going to refuse help.

"Was just gonna move this rock away..." And maybe a couple of others, since there were a few now, pushed to the side, and someone had to. "... You can get the wagon over here, though, that'd help."

Yeah. Strong as Sephos was, he wasn't going to carry the whole thing, bare handed, to the pile. Not if he didn't have to.

Still, where was the wagon? Frendo would have to find it first!

Frendo's eyes lit up at Sephos' agreeing to let him help. This was his first step to proving how sorry he was, and he wasn't going to mess up!!! The little orangeblood quickly scurried off in search of the elusive wagon. He looked near the other holes being dug- nope, not there! He checked behind the quickly erected tool storage shanty, but all he found there were more shovels and some other tools he couldn't quite name(and didn't have time to stop and think over either!). He wandered with a march of determination, eyes always on that unseen prize, but it was long before he realized he'd have to buckle down and...

Ask for help. Of course, he didn't want to be a bother, since the foremen running the crews of trolls were sure busy folks, but he didn't know what else to do! So he quickly tracked down an important looking troll, and after patiently waiting for him to finish berating an ashamed looking yellowblood on proper safety protocols and how he wasn't going to get his pay docked for the mistake made by miserable clod, he chimed in with out a bit of that previous nervousness in his voice(so quick his switch flipped from anxious to confident) , "Excuse me, surr! D'ya know where I cud finda wagon fur da rocks over der!?" he pointed into the distance where Sephos could be seen waiting for him to come back.

The important looking troll scowled at him before telling him he wasn't the troll to ask that question to(though in less friendly terms that might hurt another troll but rolled of Frendo like water off a quackbeasts back), and pointed him gruffly in the direction of the correct troll to ask.

After a few more times doing the beaurcratic dance of 'that isn't my job', Frendo finally came strolling back to Sephos, wagon trundling along behind him.

"Boy, does trolls sure are busy, sorry it took me so long!" he squeaked as he came within speaking distance of the greenblood. He didn't wait for a response before quickly moving to attempt to pick up a rock....that might be to heavy for him.

Maybe.

Sephos was not waiting idly. Not that he couldn't - he could be a very patient, very still, very solid troll when he wanted to. Like a tree.

But there were things to do, not the least of which was stretching his aching arms and abdomen. He was doing more work than usual, which meant that he was getting sore, which meant that he would become stronger, grow bigger, and so on.

The tested tree grows strong roots.

That was something his father had said, and it was odd to think that he would grow bigger still - he was already very tall, and broad as well.

Stretches done, he adjusted his clothes, checking his gloves and overalls to make sure they were still properly placed and comfortable. With that all in order, he returned to waiting... because he certainly was not going to carry the rocks all the way there. He was not ready for that.

He gave Frendo a nod as he returned, not really registering how much time had passed. Sephos lifted a large rock into the wagon, sweating in the night air - fully expecting that Frendo knew what he was doing.

Generally, trolls did.

Frendo was quickly realizing that he was not going to be able to lift the rock he had picked, and even if he did he couldn't carry it the few feet he needed to to get it in the wagon. It was like a miniboulder, and definitely heavier then expected. But it was also a decently round shape, so using his quick thinkpan, the little orangeblood realized he could still roll the rock to the wagon. Which he did with a triumphant beaming smile, proud of himself for working out such a difficult conundrum.

Of course, once he got to the wagon, he realized he was still going to have to pick it up. Frendo glanced over at Sephos, eyeing the way he bent down and hefted the stones up as if they were feathers. "Gosh, I wanna be dat strong one day!" he said, before blushing as he realized he had made his brainwords into mouthwords. Oops.

But either way, it was true, he wanted to get strong! And what better way to start then by lifting this darn rock! So with new fiery determination, Frendo went at the 'miniboulder' and after a bit of grunting and squishing his fingers under its weight, he managed to awkwardly fumble it into the wagon.

Now only....probably less then 30 to go....maybe 40.

Frendo smiled at the work though, because being helpful always outweighed his exhaustion and body aches. He would work himself to death if he wasn't stopped for breaks.

There - the wiggler'd figured out a way to do it. Roll them - not bad. Sephos settled the miniboulder into the wagon so that it wouldn't fall out and smash someones foot, thereby killing the whole point of putting it in the wagon in the first place.

He had nearly stayed quiet - there was really no reason for him to speak - but, and maybe it was because of all the new experiences he kept having - he actually felt like it.

"Probably will." Sephos said, acknowledging that the young orangeblood was, indeed, young. He had a lot of growing to do, probably. "If you lift rocks. And eat right." The last one was added as an afterthought - his lusus occasionally mentioned proper nutrition, but Sephos didn't eat junk anyway so it had never been a concern.

Except now he knew trolls that ate primarily pies and sweets, and so he had become aware that not all trolls ate the way he did.

"I'll handle the rocks. Drive it over to the pile?" The last part was meant to come out as a question - but given Sephos' monotone, it could just as easily be an order.

Not that he would know.

Frendo felt his anxiety ease ever so slightly as Sephos spoke after their near silence as they worked. Well, as Sephos worked. Frendo's one bould--rock had taken longer then several of the older trolls. But either way, he felt better now that the greenblood was speaking to him a way that almost could be considered casual. He even offered advice, which Frendo would remember for later! Lots of food that was good for you, and lifting heavy things. And then he could be strong like Sephos was!

Imagine all the cool stunts he could do with strength like that! Frendo's eyes momentarily clouded as he thought of the many, many cool things he could do. Like play volleyball with cannon balls. That was a totally plausible thing!

He quickly came back to as her work partner offered him another task to complete. And Frendo, always eager to help, and happy to feel like him and Sephos were slowly closing the wound-that only the little silly orangeblood thought existed- that had been made by his foolish mistake in the past. Frendo nodded excitedly and piped up in much more confident tones then before, "I got it, don' worry! 'M gunna do the best wagon drivin ya ever seen," which wasn't completely a lie. He did a decent job getting the wagon over to the pile, with only a small mishap where he almost ran it into a hole because he had been busy thinking about all the things he could do if he grew up to be as strong and big as Sephos was. Thankfully the aforementioned troll was watching and stopped him from wrecking the whole thing.

Now all they had to do was unload them. Frendo wanted to help, but it had been hard enough to half lift, half push his one rock into the wagon. Getting it out seemed rather difficult....and hadn't Sephos said he would handle this part? Maybe, but he still didn't like the idea of not helping with the work, even if logically it was better for him to stay back.

So of course he gave it an attempt, but with his little kid arms he just couldn't get enough strength to lift the rock off the top of the pile, and if he could, he would drop it on his foot or something just as bad, which would put him out of commission and then he wouldn't be able to help no one. So he took a step back and watched sheepishly as Sephos quickly handled the rocks, tossing them with ease into the pile.
