Sorcha's bones ached from a long day of being a wingrider. She wasn't quite sure that her body would ever get used to this lifestyle, even though she had impressed Bazoth nearly three turns ago. Drills this morning had been absolutely brutal, and she carried that struggling feeling throughout the entire day. But her day wasn't over yet, as Bazoth so pleasantly reminded her at the end of the day as she escorted him back to their weyr and removed the riding straps. Also beaten from the day's events, Bazoth curled up in his corner and huffed at her. Weren't you going to find that Bronzerider and speak to him about the Western Weyr?
Sorcha groaned. She hadn't forgotten, but her cot looked so comfortable right now, and a bath sounded like the sweetest thing in the world. Putting it off to another day was not an option, though, as she'd already put it off for several days. Making a new acquaintances, or possible friend, would be a good thing for her. After all, who knew if this new transfer even new anybody yet? She knew she had trouble making friends right away when she had first come to the High Reaches Weyr, and she would have appreciated an open heart to approach her. So, before even stripping herself of her riding clothes, Sorcha left her room to go searching.
The first place she might have checked was the new rider's weyr. It was likely that was where he'd be, if his wing had come back in for the day. She knew roughly where it would be, and started heading in that direction. Several people passed by her in the caverns, until she realized she hadn't quite recognized a face. Sorcha whirled quickly and stepped after him, reaching out a hand to touch him on the arm. "Excuse me, are you T'nor?" she asked, keeping his pace easily with her long legs.

Sorcha couldn’t help but grin as he complimented her. It wasn’t every day she spoke in a friendly manner to a handsome bronzerider. Not that she didn’t attempt it - but as a woman bluerider, she wasn’t treated with notably high esteem from the higher ranking riders. She nodded encouragingly at T’nor’s admittance that he was looking forward to the wingsecond tryouts.
But when his own question reached her, Sorcha’s ears burned red. ”I would if I could, she spat, her chest churning with a bitter feeling. She wasn’t angry that he had asked - he was from Western, after all. But the fact that she couldn’t even try out when she desired to, when she knew she had the temperament and to lead, when some brown and bronze riders were lazier on the daily than Bazoth on a warm morning. Forcing herself back into composure, Sorcha took a deep breath through her nose.
They were getting closer to the dining hall, and she worried they’d be lost in small talk if she never brought it up. ”But unfortunately, I can’t. That’s actually sort of why I wanted to talk to you. Do they… is it really true that they let anyone in positions of power at Western, regardless of your dragon’s color? Why would you leave somewhere like that?” Maybe she was already delving into loaded questions - the types of answers he would give could range from simple to entire-life-story. But she was curious if a place like that might be too good to be true.

Sorcha shrugged. She wasn't even sure she'd be much more than an embarrassment in wingleader tryouts - ambition didn't make you talented, and while she and Bazoth were a great team, they weren't exactly prodigious when it come to taking to the skies. The two of them were much better at taking trips on their own, or just sitting around and talking. Sorcha had never been athletic, and while she was appropriately trained to fly with her wing, she was never the most valuable individual within the group. But then again, how much attention or curation did a bluerider ever get in this Weyr? They were considered fodder for the thread, and that could make one a little bitter, even if Sorcha did enjoy the exhilaration of the fight.
"I don't know if I'd call it militance, or just, overbearing... like a worried parent," Sorcha said, chuckling softly. "Anyway, I'm not sure I'd even be skilled enough to climb the ranks in Western, even though I'd want to. It's a matter of attention, you know? How much they care about you. We're always throwing as many bodies as we can at the thread just to keep it at bay, but I never feel like I'm spectacularly prepared or even great at it." Maybe she was exaggerating or letting her words get away from her, or throwing all of her insecurities onto the table. But perhaps a stranger was the best type of person to express this to.
