Solo Class: Running Endurance
Beyond the training courses and exercises at the YTMA, there is a great need for off-site examinations. This month, novice endurance training is focused on running increasingly long distances – first around Four Fronds’ Small Frog Pond, then around the Waterski Resortopolis Perimeter, and finally a daunting Hunting Grounds “backwoods” Trail. You are instructed to complete all three courses.

The events of the journey into space had had a profound effect on the two greenbloods. Amonee and Nucleo had returned home with a renewed sense of terror towards the dangers space held as well as a burning desire to get strong enough to protect their loved ones and precious things. It had been so scary to struggle back to the transport pod carrying Eilidh in tow and holding on to Xavier. The four of them were extremely lucky to have all survived. If they didn't shape up, next time they might not.

Which brought them to now. It had been something he'd been hoping to try for a while, ever since he saw the poster. Amonee clutched his YTMA pamphlet and looked over it enthusiastically. Nucleo had convinced him to come with him to try the Endurance course and they were now at the start of the Four Fronds’ Small Frog Pond. Maybe with this training, they'd be able to last longer in battles and take longer hikes on their Exploration Guild adventures. Plus, it was just nice to spend time with the barista outside of the cafe. The painter loved helping out but it was good to try new things.

"The trail doesn't look so bad. I think we'll be able to finish it without much trouble." Folding the paper up, he tucked it into his shorts. That was right, for once in his life, Amonee had actually put on proper exercise wear instead of trying to jog around in a bohemian gown. He pulled his hair back into a high ponytail to keep it contained. If he ran too hard with his usual style, it tended to fall apart and make a mess.

"It's so lovely here. I wish I'd thought to bring a camera!" He beamed at the scenery around them. It was an easy hike, especially compared to the much harder trials ahead of them, and he was going to enjoy it while it lasted. Amonee glanced at Nucleo every so often to check that he was enjoying this too. He wanted badly for the barista to be happy. Nucleo spent so much of his life in gloomy confusion with his bewildering memory problems and mess of a love life. Hopefully a journey through nature would give him a little time to himself to be at peace.

"Got you covered!" Nucleo chuckled as he pulled out a leftover polaroid camera. He'd brought one for them to snapshot all the beautiful sights they came across to share with Eilidh and Xavier later. Also he was learning photographs were a physical memory he could hold onto. Holding the camera up, he took a shot of Amonee's bright smile. It was an encouraging sight that made him feel ready to take on the YTMA challenge.

"Your hair looks good." The greenblood commented, knowing that Amonee was the type to fuss over things like that. He liked to dress up and know that others noticed when he'd changed. Nucleo was starting to realize how aware he was of Amonee's little quirks and preferences. He wondered if the amount of time they spent together was normal these days.

"It's still a bit cold so if you need to borrow my jacket, let me know." The greenblood added as he stepped beside the jadeblood. He knew they'd warm up as the hike went on but still wanted to offer anyway. It was their first trip out into nature again after the events in space and he wanted to make sure everything was comfortable for his friend. Breathing in the cool air was refreshing even if it still nipped a bit. Stretching his legs, Nucleo felt the satisfying tingle in his muscles as they woke up. He was ready.

"Alright, let's see some frogs!" The barista grinned as he started to jog around the pond.

"You think so?" Amonee flushed and smiled as Nucleo commented on his hair. A hand reached up to touch the ponytail and toy with the end of it in a nervous tic. Somehow, the other greenblood's praise made him far too happy and it was embarrassing to think about. He shouldn't be this flattered over a simple observation like that. Nucleo liked someone else. Stay in your lane, Amonee.

"I hope there's some little frogs! The big ones are cute but the small ones are my favorite!" They jogged together around the pond, warming up their muscles for the later circuits that would be much harder on their stamina and endurance. It was a pleasant day with lovely company and he felt like things were looking up again. It was wonderful to be back in Alternia's lush green and pink wilderness with one of his dearest friends.

"Look, there's one! Get it!" Amonee gasped, breaking off the track and dragging Nucleo by the arm with his camera to follow. The frogs hopped around the side of the pond, some afraid of the greenblood's enthusiasm while others remained indifferent.
