After the trauma of the Space Race, two moirails reconnect and rebond.

Arms crossed, Leeroi waited impatiently at the Busthind train stop. According to their plans, Psykgi was bound to arrive any minute. His stomach was sick with fear for his friend. Civisect had all but fallen to ruin again in his lifetime, with his moirail caught in the crossfire. He knew she was safe now, that much was clear in their contact. But what if she was hurt? Burnt or scarred or missing limbs?

Leeroi couldn't handle the guilt. He had promised himself that he would protect her, but the first moment he got, he left her to fight on the opposing team. What kind of moirail was he? Clearly not a heroic one.

So he waited, with all of his guilt and fear and bated breath, for the train's arrival.

Psykgi stared out of the small sliver of window available in the cramped lowblood car, watching the scenery intently as it raced by. Ever since she'd contacted Leeroi, quickly packed a bag, and set off for the train station, she felt like she was holding her breath. Not literally, of course - her chest rose and fell, she breathed in and out. If she hadn't been, she would have been dead, since the train took hours to reach Busthind. No, she just felt... tense. Like something wanted to come out, but she couldn't let it. Not here. Not now. And every move threatened to spill that tension forth. It was uncomfortable and unpleasant.

Psy's normally cheery face was grimly neutral, preoccupied as the train whirred onwards. She perked up as a few landmarks came into view - they had entered the mountains a while ago, but Busthind might as well be an alien planet for all the comfort it offered her. Only now did familiar things sprout up alongside the tracks, things that signalled that she was getting close to the station she was looking for.

Her burns itched. They were small and numerous, down her back and neck, and she really wanted to scratch at them, but she knew not to. Instead, she stroked one of the roaches that skittered around her person. Ma'am wiggled her antennae at her inquisitively. "I'm fine." She lied to her lusus, not able to make more than a shallow smile. Hopefully, though - as more familiar things came into view, as the call went out for the station, things would be better soon.

I hope.

The car came to a stop. Psykgi made her way out of the car, grabbing her suitcase along the way. She dragged it behind her as she entered the station. Somehow, she had room to be more anxious - her eyes darted from troll to troll, seeking out a very specific face in the crowd, a specific shade of blue, a specific person that would make things a heck of a lot better. Every other troll was to be ignored or be wary of. Every other troll was a possible source of danger. Ma'am reacted to her troll's unease by grouping in a tighter cluster around her, but even then, Psy felt horribly exposed, horribly unsafe.

Suddenly, there they were - she knew those distinctive, hole-filled horns. She moved towards them with almost desperate purpose, face tense. The horns were attached to a familiar head, which was attached to a familiar body, who was wearing a familiar shade of blue...

She walked faster.

"L... Leeroi?"

It wasn't a question - it was him. She had just, in that moment, needed to say his name.

In a moment, Psykgi was swept up in a tight hug, knocked off her feet and pulled into the air. Leeroi would have held her even tighter, if not for the fear that she was wounded in ways that he accidentally could re-open. Gently, he dropped her feet to the floor again, but didn't let go.

"Psygki..." He gripped the fabric of her sweater, kneading his knuckles into it. After a silent moment, he finally leaned back, bringing a soft hand to her cheek. "Are you okay, Psykgi?" He glanced over her, voice uncharacteristically soft.

Sometimes, when the rains washed in from the ocean, it felt like this - opressive pressure, an incredible tension, something large held back and hidden in the dark clouds. And then release.

Wrapped and lifted in Leeroi's arms - one warm flesh, one hard metal - Psykgi felt, for the first time since the tower had collapsed in fire before her very eyes, safe. So safe...

She hugged him as tight as she could, clinging to his jacket. Her eyes, shut tightly, stung with tears. The tension broke, there: By the time Leeroi leaned back, there were little red 'raindrops' falling in amidst her freckles, sniffling.

Was she okay? "I will be." she managed, voice clogged. Yes - now that she was there. Things would be okay. She wanted to just collapse against him and let it be so.

Somehow, though, she managed not to. Barely.

Leeroi sighed bittersweetly, trying to keep himself from crying immediately in public. Psykgi's words quickly worked up his concern. He gave her a glance over to make sure that she still had all her limbs in order. When he realized that she was at least surface-level okay, he calmed down.

He held her by the shoulders, letting out a calm laugh. "You bet your butt you'll be. I've got hot cocoa and soup and your favorite gerbil waiting for you," He was trying to keep things normal. Would it be traumatizing for Psy to talk about what happened? Should he at least wait until they were back at his hive?

No, he was too impatient for that.

"Aw, Psy, I'm real sorry," Leeroi bit his lip. He blamed himself for not being there, not being able to help protect her. All because he didn't like hanging out with jerk purplebloods. "I should have never split up the team..." He apologized, looking away from her and instead watching the ground at his feet.
