Solo Class: Sprint Test

The agility instructor has all of the participants line up at one side of YTMA’s gymnasium, and presses the play button on his portable jam blaster. The voice filtering through the loudspeakers explains that this test is a “beep test”, in which trolls must sprint to the opposite end of the gymnasium before an alarm sounds, and after every 10 beeps the pace will increase. The agility instructor pauses the tape to let you know that passing all 100 stages will mean a “pass” for the first class.

Mechanics
Roll 10D10. If a 1 is rolled, the sprint test is failed and you must re-roll. If no 1’s are rolled, your troll is considered to have passed all 10 rounds (100 lengths total) of the test and completes the exam.

Deimos had come to Civisect to pick up some supplies for a new telescope that he was working on. The city tended to have the best quality items, it was just annoying that they were all so... expensive. It turned out that he'd need to save up a little more before being able to get anything after all. Disappointed, he wound up wandering around the city for a while, figuring he might as well see the sights before heading back to Four Fronds.

A new building caught his eyes - a sort of recreation center, laden with official signage and advertisements for training. Now this was worth investigating. He entered the building, looking around, trying to take in everything at once. This was a place he could get official training for various skills- most of which he was actually interested in. Useful skills! Physical, and mental. This would be the perfect place to go when Perore was too busy to practice with him. Or something.

He wandered over to the section on physical exercises and began reading the descriptions. He'd get to mental practice later- he wanted to work on getting his body in shape first.

Austri loved Civisect with all her being.

It had all things she lived for-- Shining stores, flashing lights... Highblooded trolls. It was no secret Austri liked hanging out with highbloods more than those of her own color, but these days lowbloods were all she could hang with! She needed more of a positive influence, so on days she wanted to hang out with trolls living the good life, Austri would crash at Flydra or Lorata's places in Civisect. Unfortunately, both were busy tonight, and the greenblood decided she'd visit that new place she'd heard Scorpa mention-- YTMA, right? There were bound to be a hell lot of trolls that were well off, or at least, trolls she could make connections with. She was glad she'd packed her athletic clothes-- She was always ready for some exercise!

She'd been reading the pamphlets some, looking up when a tealblood approached them next to her. She eyed them up-- A little tired looking, but she liked that starry motif he had, and while he had some serious bedhead, maybe behind that unkempt frown was a gleaming pile of beetles? Austri smiled widely, eyes closing pleasantly as she extended a hand to the troll and released a soft giggle. "Hiya~ I'm Austri, and I couldn't help but see you're checking out the physical courses? I'm like, super into that stuff, and I was just looking for a partner myself~" Her vocal pitch was a tad higher than its normal tone, but this was how she normally talked around most highbloods, so it was easier to deal with. "I mean, you do look like you'd be fast, but like~" She gave him a quick look over before cracking a half smile. "Y'know, looks can't tell these things as well as doing things can~"

He'd just picked up a pamphlet on the agility course when a high pitched voice sounded in his ears. Resisting a wince - he hated high voices - the tealblood turned his gaze from the pamphlet to the greenblood in front of him. Wait... hadn't he seen her before somewhere..? He narrowed his eyes slightly, trying to place the girl - then it dawned on him. Bloodfest. The obstacle course he'd nearly died on. It was hers. "Deimos." He managed to get his name out between her breaths. Goodness she talked a lot.

Was she making a comment on the foot..? He'd taken to wearing boots to try and hide it, but... He shrugged, mouth forming a hint of a smile. "I could be. I don't mind teaming up. I guess we'll find out who's faster." He quirked a brow, stepping back as he placed the pamphlet down again. "Relay race or sprints?"

His eyes had widened and Austri's smirk spread further across her face, eyes bright with excitement. "Deiii~mooos~" She drawled, mouth pulled into a small smirk. She'd nabbed a partner! Great, now to show them how awesome she was. She needed to show her assets, so they'd think of her the next time they had a problem of some sort. It was sorta like advertising! "Sprints, of course! We can try a relay right after we pass it~ I'm like~ Super awesome at stamina courses~"

Of course, she just had to jinx herself by saying that.

She managed to get to the 9th round before she'd been too slow to pass the beep test. How could she be too slow?!? Austri muttered a curse as she stepped off the court, wiping some sweat off her forehead as she adjusted her sports jacket before looking around the room to see if Deimos managed to get any further or if he'd been called out before the time.

God that was annoying. He resisted the urge to tell her so- that wouldn't exactly go over well. Instead, he followed her to the court. "I'll hold you to that." He actually grinned a little, starting to feel excited. This wasn't the same as practicing hitting things, but being able to move quickly was also a valuable skill... right? "You can go first, then, since you're super awesome." Unable to resist mimicking her speech, he motioned for her to take the first set.

Well, she did pretty good, almost beat it in fact! It was only when he stepped into his place on the track that he realized that sprinting probably wasn't the best way to start things off. He made it all the way to the 10th round before the pain in his right leg got the better of him - he slowed down just enough to not make it in time. He sighed, suppressing frustration and moved off the track.

Austri huffed in response to his blatant mocking, but instead of responding, merely rolled her eyes and continued watching. The teal blood did better than her! What the hell?? Or well, he did well until he almost tripped and finished his round. Austri smirked a little, nodding afirmatively and tossing some of her hair back. The long part had been pulled into a ponytail, but she wanted to make a statement anyways. She headed back on the track after taking a big gulp from her water bottle, then began the second round. This time, she only reached the 7th round before she bit the dust. Austri raged inwardly before tapping him in, leaning on the side and grabbing her water bottle again. She was prepared to watch him lose.

Well, someone seemed huffy. Dei was honestly a little amused by it - she'd picked him out because he looked like he could run fast, right? So why was she surprised that he'd gotten so far. After she failed a second time, he bit his lip to try and stop himself from grinning. Oh he was sure she'd be really frustrated now... he'd take it as quiet revenge for the death course at bloodfest.

Since it was his turn again, he braced himself before starting off. God his leg hurt. Somehow he managed to make it through in time! He trotted to a stop near Austri, unable to keep a slight grin off his face. "Your turn. I'm sure you'll get it." One of these nights that tone of his was gonna earn him an a** kicking...

Austri's main reason for picking the tealblood was to impress him, not to seem lesser than him. She watched him pull it off with a grimace, leading Austri to interpret how much of a bother it seemed to be that he was even doing this class. Her fingers fumbled with the knot on her shorts as she kept her anger in check, eyes searing through the tealblood as if taking his words as a challenge. Off she went with another attempt, this time failing on the second try.

Austri almost punched a hole into the gym's floor. She was going to pummel him after this. That, she was. Instead of going back, she waited for that round to finish and went to take another round, this time reaching the 7th round and going to slow, failing this round. Austri trotted up to the tealblood, eyes huffy and narrowed. "I'm just out of practice," She said, but it was extremely obvious Austri spent every waking moment of her life training her body to be the very best she could. She clicked her tongue, snatching the water out of the tealbloods hands and wiping her sweat with a Flydra towel of from the ones given to the public at bloodfest. She gulped it down, then tossed her hair. "That's why~ I'm going to ace it this time! I was just warming up, duh~" Obviously.

Deimos stood by and watched as she tried... and failed... to pass the test not one, but two more times. He almost felt bad for her, she was clearly not someone that was out of shape or something... this must be totally humiliating. Then again, it was really funny. He didn't even comment on her snatching the water out of his hands after her last attempt.

"Clearly. Warming up is important, after all." Okay. That was just poor word choice and a lack of good tonal control. He hadn't been trying to sound douchey but, well. There it went. Douchey. He'd just have to roll with it.

He was such a douche. Austri mimicked his words exaggeratedly on her way back to the front, eyes narrowed and frustrated. To be completely serious, Austri wasn't truly angry at him. He was more annoying than something Austri would seriously get mad at. But just the fact that someone she picked at random was better than her at something so simple when she was trying so hard aggravated her. Maybe she could request a 1 on 1 battle before they were done with this training regime. She'd definitely beat him then, and that was enough for Austri.

She'd tripped and stumbled before the 7th round, last time. With an impatient stomp, the greenblood tossed some of her hair back and geared herself up for the next round with a set jaw and a determined glare. This time. This time for sure. She sped back and forth with the instructors whistles, going at the perfect pace until the end. Austri finished gracefully, jogging to reach the end and panting, bending over and placing both hands on her knees and bending her knees a little. She did it. She finally did it. She stood up straight and strode over to the tealblood. "See. No sweat." She wiped off some sweat immedeately after.

Dei watched as she failed again, but... then managed to pass the last attempt. Good- he didn't really want to waste any more time than he had already, and clearly he wasn't very good at talking to frustrated strangers. He needed to leave before he dug himself too deep a grave or something.

Thankfully she seemed pleased with herself, now he just had to... not ******** it up. "Right. No sweat at all." Smooth. "...We should try another one sometime. I'm sure you'll outrun me then." STOP TALKING.
