'Just plant it like you do all the others.'
The sound of his unamused lusus didn't deter the young troll as he jogged ahead of her. The large slime cat huffed as she trotted behind her smaller troll. Normally, the four story beast (when at full size, sometimes she would shrink in shape to accommodate smaller locations) would offer her back as a ride, but the boy, Tantoe, was busy. He held a strange flower in his hand, something brightly green and yellow and unlike the other flowers they had grown back at the hive. Something he didn't understand. She was sure it was like any ol' plant, but Tantoe wouldn't believe it. Instead, he wanted to run about, asking anyone and everyone if they knew what he had and what to do with it.
Her eyes rolled as Tantoe pitter-pattered ahead of her. It was when he seemed to spot someone much bigger than himself that them lusus released a nervous chirp, warning him to come back. He didn't listen, eyes set on a troll sporting rather branch-like horns. Picking up speed, Tantoe all but ran at the poor unsuspecting troll.
"Excuse me!" He called as SlimeMama shrank to the size of a house cat and caught up with him, watchful eyes locked on the older troll. Tantoe stopped at the other's feet, lifting his flower in sight. "Do you know what this is?"

Sigh
Supplies.
It was no less unpleasant to go into town to get certain necessities of life. What the forest could provide, Sephos was happy to let it. Unfortunately, certain seeds, fruits, plants, tools, and - the ever necessary - sopor slime were not things the forest could give him, even if it was a good season for harvesting. Why couldn't sopor slime grow on trees?
He was also buying some clothing - a few of his were getting really worn and small on him, so he figured he could use them to patch up new ones. Plus, Rastin probably needed a few things. He'd pick those up and bring them by. Why not.
He squinted at the list that Rastin had helped him write. Rastin's handwriting was pretty, but Sephos could barely read it. He mouthed out a few of the sounds before giving up and grimacing at the town before him.
Suddenly, there was a small blue child with a flower garland stuffing an actual flower in his face. "Uh." Sephos took a step back and assessed the situation a little. He was, he realized, being asked what it was, not if he wanted it. Well, what was it?
He took a closer look. "... It's not a forest plant." he said, after a moment, "It's from dunelands and grasslands and such, probably the Hemisect plains. Maybe near the coast." He had actually seen it before. "I think its sometimes called Boneyard weed."
Well, he'd answered that. Would he be left alone, now? |

Tantoe lit up as the larger troll noticed him, only for his face to fall as they stepped back. Oh, that was his fault, wasn't it? He hadn't respected personal boundaries, something his lusus desperately tried to educate him on. His mouth tightened, body stiffening once the other finished speaking. Boneyard weed, okay. But... He glanced back at his lusus, nose wrinkling slightly as she just turned her head away and focused on anything but her charge. No help, great. He turned back to the other troll, lowering his hands to examine the flower.
"Thank you..." He trailed off in thought, large eyes locked on the plant within his hands as if it was the holy grail itself. Okay, but how was he supposed to take care of it? Everything in him screamed to just walk away, after all, he didn't want to annoy the other troll. But, often one would find Tantoe's inner voice rarely was obeyed.
"How do I take care of it?" He asked, looking up at the other troll in slight admiration. If they knew what it was then clear they must know plants, right? Of course!
That totally made sense!

Sephos gave the lusus a glance.
So he wasn't going to be left alone, all right, that was fine. "You don't really, uh. Need to do anything." Sephos thought for a moment, "No. Yeah. It doesn't need much. Just um..." The gardener in him was rousing, as slowly as his lusus. "Don't crowd it. Give it too much water. That sort of, uh... thing." It was a pretty hardy plant, after all.
Now maybe they would go away.
Wait...
Maybe Sephos didn't want them to go away. He thrust his list in front of them awkardly, especially awkwardly because of their height difference. "... Can yuh read this?" he asked.
The handwriting was elegantly curled and done in purple ink, clearly a supply list. Whatever, indeed, two hermits in the woods with two gardens, a large cat, and a forest to 'care' for would need from the town. Sephos couldn't remember all of the things, and he didn't want to let Rastin down. Maybe this random troll could help? |
