After finishing up their notes and packing up the successful bindings to carry and store securely, they sent Mr. Bitterberry to the court with a note for Silk.

Miss Silk,

We hope this finds you well! The three of us have been testing a way to bind power to the new charter's frame and would appreciate it greatly if you could go over it with it us at your soonest convenience.

Thank you for your time and guidance,
America Jones, Kaleb Sullivan, Leila Townhome

Mr. Bitterberry was definitely a better fit for courier than Biscuit, whose flight capabilities were generally lacking. Leila's hen familiar stayed with the rest of her flock at home for the method delivery and demonstration, while Friend stayed on her person as always. She was a bit apprehensive to see Silk again after the first impression she'd given, but did a good job not showing it... and it was honestly much more distressing to still see the faint flaming outline America had acquired after her last encounter with Ezra.

Thinking of Ezra made her feel powerless.

Today the court saw fit to dress her in nearly all black. It was probably because of the eyes. Color coordination was a pain in the a** with them.

"By the way, I have some clothes I need to get rid of," she said to America as they waited to be seen. "If you want to stop by and see if any of it suits you."

Kaleb had been told ahead of time about what he could expect of the court, as much as could be said in the time it took the three of them to prepare for the trip. It still didn't prepare him for the amount of frills and lace involved. He was way out of his element, but working with the ladies on this project had started to dig up a small measure of his neglected sense of confidence. There was some strength to be found in just being with them.

"Our regular clothes will be back when we leave, right?" He asked hesitantly, in a quiet voice that was well suited to the libraries where he felt most comfortable.

Running her hands down the perfectly tailored skirt of her dress, America looked up to give Leila an eager smile. "Yeah? That'd be great." Between the loss of over a month's work, the wedding coming up, and her own strict budgeting for the sake of a house, America wasn't going to indulge in clothes shopping anytime soon. She was just lucky she could change the colors of what she had.

They were directed into Silk's office, where she was hurriedly finishing some sort of enormous stack of paperwork.

"If you could quickly run me through what it is you've decided to cast," she said, not looking up.

"Yes, ma'am," America answered, clearing her throat. "We've decided to treat power as threads, imbued with silver symbolism, and plaiting people's threads together to evenly wrap 'round the Frame, fusing the raw ends into a closed circuit once it's done."

She offered a laminated sheet with clear, simple instructions and more detailed notes on the back. Leila, with a surprising skill at graphic design, had made it up to be informative and to the point, easily referenced should the three not be there for the casting.

Quote:

  1. Pull out power to form a thread from each caster.
  2. Focus on turning the threads silver - neutrality, communication, intuition, dreams (full breakdown on the back)
  3. Plaiting the threads together, keeping the threads even and uniform as possible, take your time! (illustration on the back)
  4. Wrapping the frame with the plait, again keeping it uniform until the frame is covered and the ends merge together to tie the whole together, take your time!
  5. Wait for the frame to absorb the binding. If it does not absorb, start again at step 1. (illustration on the back)

"We've brought our successful samples, if you want to go over them." There were a couple boxes, as each frame had its own purpose and intent, and some were not...mixy. America's breakfast had already been a casualty of the ring of yew and lead that'd been stashed under the table, turning to mold between bites.

"Will we be able to help guide the binding when it takes place, Miss Silk?"

The detailed breakdown on the back was originally intended as a Powerpoint. Thankfully Kaleb and America had pointed out that a Powerpoint presentation was probably a little much. Leila stood patiently through America's explanation, keeping her hands crossed behind her back -- it wouldn't do to fidget here.

"All three of us are willing to be present for this part of the casting," she said. "But you're the better judge on who's most qualified. I can give you my memories of the development and testing of this method if it would help inform your decisions here."

Similarly, Kaleb tried to resist fidgeting. His hands felt uncomfortably empty without the safety blanket that was his messenger bag of books and notes, but it was important that he also gave some impression of competence in the matter. It was an effort keeping his hands relaxed at his sides.

The ladies were doing what he thought was a good job at offering the information and asking the relevant questions, so he remained silent for the time being.

"All of you will be present," said Silk calmly. "As you don't have any preconceived notions as I do, or as Odal does. Though I understand Odal wishes to meet a few of you, for some reason."

She shrugged. "This seems clear enough. I thank you for your time. If there's nothing else, as you can see, I am positively drowning in the preparations?..."

"'Course," America nodded and then, of all things, curtsied. "Thank you, ma'am."

The moment of polite formality, however, didn't stop the girl from trying to high-five the other two once outside the room.

Leila didn't curtsy, but made a polite incline of her head. "'Of course. And thanks for all your work here." Silk certainly seemed responsible for a lot. That was something she could respect, so it was a sincere statement.

She also met America's high five without having to think about it.

Kaleb followed suit with a meek bow and murmured thanks, and fumbled the high five outside the room. But he tried, that was the important part! It wasn't often Kaleb was involved in celebrations of that sort, and even the awkward result made him feel kinda warm at the thought of being included in something important.
