Hemera had put a lot into working out sponsors for their brand. Perhaps more time than was necessary for a pair just competing to compete. She didn't really need to win, and she knew it. Afryse wanted to be noticed. She wanted to be a part of the glitzy competition experience just once before dedicating the rest of her life to military service. That was all there was to it. But working out sponsors had gotten very serious very quickly. For one, she didn't want to look like an idiot and be rejected. If she was, she'd probably dwell on it forever. Again, it didn't matter, but it would get to her anyway. How annoying.
Most of her risks ended up being rather calculated. Calida and Nucleo, pretty easy to work with. She knew them each to a degree, and what they were looking for lined up with what she and Afryse were providing. Beneficial, and not too stressful to work out. Lorata lined up with them, too. But applying to work with a seadweller took a lot of tact and knowing the line between respect and butt-kissing. It still wasn't the most difficult to work out, though. Mera did feel some relief upon being accepted, though. They had made it! Huzzah. A small huzzah. But still. Huzzah.
Their final sponsor...was a bit more of a sticking point. Another troll Mera knew, definitely more so than any other listed sponsor and maybe even more than she knew Afryse. But it had been tense for a very long time. She didn't even know if Eridia could even tolerate her anymore? So submitting a sponsorship request was nearly a lark. Mera expected to be turned down, and rather brutally. Again, though, Mera did her best to be respectful without also sucking up. That would just be too much. But perhaps, even with their differences, they could work together professionally.
Surprisingly enough, to the point of Mera raising her eyebrows upon the confirmation, Eridia seemed to agree. Not that Mera immediately trusted her, but it was still a pleasant surprise. And now she owed her new sponsor a meeting. Of course Afryse would come with. And with a primer, to boot. He would have to know about pieces of their drama, Eridia's known habits and ways. She couldn't just throw him to the howlbeasts. But she had to wonder if she was throwing herself to them anyway.
But it wasn't the worst idea ever. She had seen Chiara's business on the list, for instance. That was an immediate, absolute no. Mera had some amount of dignity and enough intuition that even if this was a bad idea, that would be so much worse. Both had dangerous power, but Mera trusted Eridia's whim a little bit more. Maybe. Hopefully. At least if it was just a set-up for some public humiliation, Mera could take it. Highbloods. Hard to trust, but easy to expect the worst out of. Especially the really refined ones. It'd be easier for all of them to play nice, though. But at some point she could absolutely bet that there'd be some undercurrent tension... Sorry, Afryse.
They had to do this, though. And as soon as she could find Eridia at their meeting spot, she would definitely try to pull a polite smile and try not to stress out too much.
