Mazuri nodded in agreement with her friend's observations.
"I suspect there will be further changes as the new Abaholi settle into their roles." She remarked with a flick of her tail. At the question of whether she knew the former Umholi, Mazuri's expression turned sad. She could have done without the gesture as she replied. "Yes, one of the former leaders, Andhaka, was my father, as he was the father of many in the pride." Her tone was resigned as she went on. "Usually, yes. I am grateful that these new leaders chose not to kill them. They would have had Andhaka's many descendants against them, I would suspect, had they been so ruthless." She raised her eyes to her friend with a smile and then turned her gaze out to where their new leaders were clustered. "If they were so merciful to the old leaders, I can't help thinking... Maybe they are not as bad as I may have originally worried."

Again, she nodded.
"Yes. Many of our pride sisters, well, pride themselves on keeping with the old traditions. One of them being, of course, to breed with a dark-maned male. That was ages ago that it was a common practice, yet the tradition seems to remain." While Umkhombo was certainly handsome, she supposed, she found her gaze drifting towards the paler male. Her tail flicked as she watched him and she found him wondering about what he might be like. Maybe she ought to seek out his company later, once they had settled in. Finally glancing at Mokosh again, she noticed her pride sister staring at the other newcomer and she smiled. Maybe they would both come away from this new change with something out of it.

"No, indeed." She remarked in regards to the lionesses who had fought. The fight itself didn't last long and none of the lions seemed partial to doing anything about it, either. She would have watched the outcome of the scuffle longer, had more sisters not approached and addressed Mokosh. Perking her ears and smiling politely, Mazuri greeted her pride sisters. "Hello, Imvula. Amancane." She said, nodding her head to both of them as she spoke their names, before settling to listen in to their conversation.

((Going to starting wrapping this in the next several days, unless any other IC excitement manifests!))

Not that she was one to underestimate herself - quite the opposite, rather! - but Sinir was visibly surprised when her maneuver worked as well as it did. It was followed by a half-second of hesitation, enough time for sister to yield before she had to suffer being pinned immediately after being toppled with such ease. The yellow-eyed lioness stood her ground with a look a savage delight in her victory, grin only growing when the lioness who'd accompanied the new Abaholi roared. Rather than gloat insufferably and indefinitely, however, she approached Kasirga to bump her head against her littermate's, demonstrating that there was no loss of affection. It helped that the disagreement had ended in her favor, with Umkhombo's honor successfully defended...just as well the bystanders didn't realize that was the root of the fight, as they no doubt would have found it backwards, but in addition to being a father-figure, Umkhombo was also Bey, so Sinir would have felt she owed him allegiance regardless.

"Well-fought, sis," she rumbled out, flicking her crooked tail. It had been a fairly clumsy, odd little fight altogether, but she wasn't going to poke fun at her in front of their audience, figuring such a quick loss was enough public embarassment for one day.

----

Umkhombo was pleased that the fight resolved quickly, and that - as he had predicted - there didn't seem to be any injuries, except perhaps to pride. It would have looked bad if he'd assured the Umama that it was a harmless diversion only for the sparring youths - no, lionesses - to hurt each other. It was unsettling, in a way, to realize they were adults now, not children. It was an adjustment that was definitely going to take time. Sands forbid, they were old enough to have cubs, and the thought flashed through his mind that they could very well choose one of his friends, which was even stranger. He shoved that disturbing chain of thought far to the back of his mind and nodded in agreement with Ahlaq. The paler lion moved away then, headed towards one of the disapproving lionesses, and Khombo's gaze followed him for a moment. Faust, too, moved away, closer to the site of the bout, leaving Umkhombo with Buna and Izinyathi. He did want to go and speak with Kasirga and Sinir, to voice his approval, but it would be better to leave that for later, he decided.

"That should be enough excitement for one day, I should think," he observed to the general vicinity, choosing that over a phrasing that would sound more like 'I told you so.'

----

Uheshe had been drawn away from her previous conversation by the spectacle of two of the young Qyrhyeshti fighting - and about what?! Though she'd said nothing, she'd fixed her brother with a look, assuming that he would do something and disappointed that he didn't. Such rough behavior was quite uncalled for! And at the drop of a feather, from the look of it, although she'd not been near enough to hear what had started the fight. Between sisters! What a shameful scene to start, hmph. She'd already been less than enthused about the looks of the two new Abaholi who had appeared, and with these so-called warrior-lionesses causing a stir, she was now quite displeased, and very much over this. With a disapproving sniff, the dappled lioness took her leave, and was off to inform her mother of the latest developments.

Audience or not, she had let herself lose way too easily.. perhaps she would ambush Sinir another time to try to settle the score. It wasn't cheating if you could tell them they should always be on alert! Still, she was glad her sister didn't reveal what the argument had been about herself.. and when she gave an affectionate headbutt, Kasirga returned the gesture..

.. before shoving her sister away by the face and sticking out her tongue.

With the fight settled, she rolled herself over and got back up to her feet and shook herself off. She allowed herself a few seconds to look around at the crowd and send a glare Umkhombo's way for good measure, then began the annoying procedure of extricating herself from the crowd.

She contemplated her brother's words, nodding. He DID have a point. Fighting with your pridemates was a good way to be sure everybody was in top form, without relying on those outside the pride to teach you. It meant, too, that everybody knew each others' strengths and weaknesses in combat. Of course, it would be the males who defended the pride, usually, not the females. Still, it was good that lionesses knew how to fight, just in case.

Watching the lionesses part, Izinyathi breathed a sigh of relief. "I was worried it'd spill over into an all-out brawl between everybody, admittedly." She glanced at one of her brother's companions, the male he'd looked at when Umkhombo had pointedly said 'Burkuteshti'. Would his presence cause problems?

As quickly as it had started, the fight ended, and Imvula lost most of her interest. She looked at Mo, ears twitching. "The Jahy are a group of lions that disbanded from their land some time ago. They joined while Andhaka and Bangizwe were still in power, and took out some hyenas." Shifting, Imvula gave Mazuri a returned nod, before continuing to address Mo, "Umkhombo brought them, in his first brief return home. Then he left again." Now, though, he was back, and had come with friends. The pride had more males to breed with than they usually did, and she wasn't sure many of the lionesses would have an easy time choosing. Seeing the cubs about made Imvula want to pick one, but now it was a matter of... Which one?

A frustrated sound came from the younger lioness. It seemed that Imvula knew as much as she did. Which, at that point, wasn't much. She looked at Mizuri, nodding, "Hello." It was a distracted greeting, but she'd at least given one. Her attention went back to the lionesses that had been fighting. Her gaze went, too, to Umkhombo. He had looked interested in the fight, but for what reasons she couldn't fathom. It was as if he were ready to fight the winner, which wouldn't, in Amancane's opinion, have been a fair fight. After all, he was not only a male lion with large size on his side, but rested. If he fought the winning lioness in the fight, she'd be at the disadvantage with both size and weariness. Finally, she let out a little sigh, "I wonder if one of my sisters would fight with me like that..." It was easy to infer - Of the different beliefs within the pride, Amancane was already shaping to be very progressive.

((I'll roll for the posting prize Moday night, at which point this will officially close, but if after that anyone needs another post or two to resolve whatever they have going on, that's fine.))

Sinir staggered a couple of steps and wrinkled her nose at Kasirga, before sticking her tongue out after her retreating form, no more above the childish gesture than her sister. They were young yet, and clearly rowdy as ever, and already not concerned with appearances, so that fact that the immature exchange was almost certainly witnessed din't bother her in the least. She, too, shook herself off, resettling her mind and muscles after the little dispute. She scanned the crowd to get a better look at who'd been watching, waiting for someone to say something, but...nothing. It was a bit of a surprise, honestly. Huh.

With another flick of her tail, the Busisa moved to leave the circle that had formed around them as it began to dissolve.

Lusizi->Rogue, Andhaka x Sabit.
Family Info! As she's not native to the Bonelands, his mother won't treat him as lesser in any way because of his gender, but she will not want or allow him to stay once he reaches adolescence; if he doesn't go on his own, she'll chase him out even before the Abaholi can get to it. She fully expects him to go and make something of himself, not bum around as a celibate cub-sitter, and will emphasize the nearby Firekin as an option.

(This litter will not be ICly born until the migration is complete.)

The fight ended almost as soon as Faust found a good spot to watch it from, but he decided that was probably for the best. He didn't want their first day on the job to be marred by anything like this if only because the sour mood might carry over towards the three new males. He had to smile just a bit at Umkhombo's statement, glad that he wasn't going to let tradition dictate what he did. They were a new breed of male, it seemed, and as long as his friend led the way with making new traditions for this pride - to an extent of course - he would follow in his paw prints. He shifted his weight a bit, turning to leave as a few of the lionesses did as well.

"Nike," he called softly to the female who was still bristling, Nike turned as her name was called, eyes narrowed in irritation. She gave a little huff but stood down, turning away from the female that had accused her of something that she still wasn't sure about. She'd have time later to prove herself to this gaggle of gals, she was certain. At least some of them looked up to the challenge of a battle.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm coming," she growled, stalking through the group of those gathered after Faust. They had agreed to observe the lands together to get a sense of where might be best to stop an invasion or take on a rogue and now seemed to be the time to do that.

Oh. Her father?! Mokosh blanched at the news, and even more so at the expression that crossed Mazuri's face. Her actions felt even more crass in hindsight, and she touched her tail to the darker lioness' side in silent commiseration. Hopefully that, and the rueful glance she shot her friend's way, conveyed her very sincere apology.

She did confirm Mo's earlier thoughts, though. Practices being what they were in the pride, it was a little amazing that leaders were ever killed at all. It seemed as if the very idea would instantly turn the pride against each other, with offspring rebelling against the deaths of their fathers.

The lioness turned to face Imvula, listening intently to her question answered. They were outsiders folded into the pride after all! That explained a lot. "That certainly explains their familiarity with him. I wonder if the other males are Jahy friends as well." They seemed to share the same warlike streak, as all but the patched pale one appeared to have eyes only for the fighting lionesses - not that Mo could blame them. She was a little sorry to see the spar end.

Maybe that was what prompted her to respond to Amancane, without thinking, "I would. I'd love to learn to fight like that." The words were out of her mouth before the lioness could stop to consider their ramifications. Mazuri, she knew, was a little less than traditional. But Imvula was an entirely unknown factor, and Mokosh's eyes cut to her nervously.

Mazuri smiled back at her friend and scooted a little closer to Mo's side, settling in to listen to what Imvula and Amancane had come to say. Mazuri had thought herself not to know much about her new Jahy-turned-Boneland pride sisters, but apparently, she knew about as much as the majority of her sisters here.

Suddenly, at Amancane's comment about fighting she perked her ears in equal parts alarm and interest. Her tail twitched nervously. Fighting was something that lions did; Mazuri didn't have (and didn't want to have, thank you very much) any part in it. Hunting and cubsitting was more than fine with the young lioness. Yet, Mokosh quickly came to Amancane's side and Mazuri was forced to reconsider her thoughts. She shifted her paws as she put in her opinion.

"I... I don't think that we ought to go about trying to wound one another, but... It may be good to learn a bit of fighting, for self-defense reasons." She said, looking shyly up at her pride sisters. Hopefully they didn't think her a complete simpleton for her words, but... Surely they didn't have to go out of their way to learn how to harm one another?
