Profile:

Deskri is akin to a cat that’s just been tossed into a tub of water, and blames you for his predicament. He’s ornery, quick to judgment, and isn’t exactly known for his pan-to-mouth filter. Deskri behaves as if the world has done him a great injustice, and he intends to right it. What exactly was done, he doesn’t know. But it was something. In reality Deskri just has a very poor grasp on his temper and despite his lusus’ best attempts, he does not have the self-awareness to acknowledge this.

Honestly, Deskri is not very good at expressing more than one singular emotion at a time. Like a tiny pixie that’s just too small to hold more than one feeling at any given moment, Deskri is prone to emotional extremes. Thankfully his other extremes are much more manageable- as Deskri is more likely to lash out at himself than others if he’s feeling particularly sad or betrayed. Lashing out, more often than not, is usually limited to verbal insults or the occasional thrown object. He's aware enough of himself to know he's too small and unskilled to really pick a fight, but isn't above screeching at whoever/whatever pissed him off until they/it go away. Most of the time this leaves him feeling rather refreshed once he's gotten his outburst out of his system, but there are exceptions to this.

Being a purpleblood has allowed him immense privilege- so long as he doesn’t lash out at anyone too close to his own color, it’s just fine isn’t it? Deskri has a hard enough time empathizing with people of his own caste, let alone those that are supposed to be “lesser” than him. He doesn’t think much on the hemospectrum- after all, it doesn’t really affect him much. Those that may point that out to him are soon to find out that Deskri has a case of selective hearing. It doesn't matter to him, therefore it shouldn’t matter to anyone else, right? Of course, he's not the top of the spectrum and is aware of it, at least in theory.

Deskri makes a point of not going to the beach. The ocean terrifies him and he has no intention of going to see it in person any time soon. Now, if he were to meet a Seadweller in person, he wouldn't really know how to behave. Similarly with those of his own caste? Probably. He's not exactly polite, and can't hide his emotions worth a damn, but he is what he is. His lusus has mentioned that he needs to listen to Seadwellers and what they want him to do, but he's not entirely convinced that's how things will go down should he actually meet one.

Despite his numerous flaws (primarily stemming from lack of awareness and anger issues) Deskri is not a total lost cause. His stubbornness can actually be quite beneficial- he’s not one to back down from his beliefs or when the going gets tough. For those that actually manage to get past his prickly personality, Deskri is an incredibly loyal friend, willing to bend over backwards to ensure those close to him are well looked after. He’s not above getting into hands-on situations, even where some others of his caste may prefer to delegate tasks. This works out for him because it gives him an opportunity to socialize with others in a setting where he’s most likely to get along with them- after all if it's a project he’s willing to work on in person, the people he’s working with must be at least similarly minded enough to be worth giving a real chance to.

Deskri enjoys art- primarily quick doodles when he’s bored or if he has more actual time: painting and calligraphy. His handwriting is s**t, but that doesn’t stop him. Des hates going anywhere without some way to draw. To help deal with his anger issues, he started “vent drawing” whenever he gets agitated, or feels some other emotional extreme. Which, to be honest, is fairly often. Anger is not his only emotion- it just gets the biggest reaction out of him. He spends a great deal of time doodling, painting, and generally making a mess in his art room.

He also enjoys baking- specifically brownies. Only brownies. He’s a chocolate fiend. He’s actually terrible at cooking and could probably set water on fire if he tried to make pasta, but somehow he’s mastered the ability to make some fine a** brownies and would live off of them if he could if his lusus would allow it. He’d like to eventually branch out into pancakes, those are delicious.

Des is at his calmest with his lusus. He loves his batcat lusus very much, and does try to listen to his guidance. It’s just so hard! He’s just such a small person with so many feelings. So many feelings. He’s at least aware enough to know that he's prone to mood swings, he just doesn't know how to deal with it nor that it's really possible to deal with it. After all, aren't highbloods supposed to be violent? This belief that highbloods are naturally violent leaves him ill-equipped to preemptively do much about his anger problems. He doesn't really do much aside from his vent drawings, which only do so much. Rather, he's left having to deal with it in the moment. Results vary from situation to situation- sometimes he'll fizzle out mid-sentence and backpedal like a true champion, other times he'll see his outburst through 'til the bitter end just to get that sweet feeling of relief. This also influence his lack of interest in reaching out for help. He doesn't really think anything is wrong until suddenly he's gone too far (usually this is only with friends), but once the moment has past he'd rather pretend it never happened than actually confront it.

Strengths:

Tenacious:
Failing at something is not an ending for Deskri. If he fails, messes up, or hits a roadblock on a task, he’ll just keep going. Deskri is not one to give up on something until he’s absolutely certain it's not going to happen/won’t work. That doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t pitch a fit along the way, though. Fit pitching is almost like another hobby of his, he hasn't truly given up on something until he's had a few hissing fits at it. Kick it ‘til it works is definitely a policy he employs from time to time…

Loyal:
Once someone has attained the title of ‘friend’ (or something closer, or he’s found something to stand for), Des has their back. Pretty much for life. He’s there to lend a hand, shoulder to cry on (though probably not advice..) or what ever else they may need. Likewise, he’ll back them up in a fight if need be. He’s just as loyal to any causes he may find himself attached to- pull at his heartstrings enough or somehow manage to logic him into getting attached to something, and he’ll stick with it ‘til the bitter end.

Hands-On:
Despite his privileged status, Deskri is a very hands-on person. He doesn’t like deferring to others if it’s something he can just do himself. It’s not that he doesn’t trust them to do it right, it’s that he doesn’t see why he shouldn’t get involved personally. This allows him to get to know others on a more personal level and build rapport with them than someone else that would simply delegate tasks.

Flaws:

Short Fuse:
It is shamefully easy to provoke Deskri into a rage. Unfortunately for him (and others around him) Deskri’s rage is not cool and collected ice- it’s an inferno. He loses most rational thought when he flies off the deep end, and is quick to resort to verbally berating whoever/whatever set him off. He’s not normally prone to physical violence until his space is encroached upon while he’s ranting. When it comes to his friends, Deskri is usually a lot calmer with them and has an easier time giving warning before getting to a point where he screams. Unlike with strangers, he usually feels immense guilt after lashing out at friends whether it be verbally or physically. He's not very good at apologies, but he'll make a sincere effort for his close buds.

Self-Awareness? What’s that?
Deskri is… not really in touch with his inner self. He’s working on it with the introduction of therapy drawing, but for the most part he’s very out of touch with his inner workings and wouldn’t know where to begin to fix that. This is why when asked what makes him so angry, he usually doesn’t have an answer. Or he’ll make one up on the spot.

Obvious:
Des is not the type of person that can hide what he's thinking. Like, ever. It's pretty clear when he's upset, even if he does try to hide it. He's not the most aware of his facial expressions, and will usually end up death-staring at people if they're pissing him off. While he won't cry in public, its very, very easy to tell when he's been hurt. This is not the best trait to have for someone so high up on the spectrum- it'd be rather easy to figure out how to manipulate him just by watching how he reacts to things.

Weapon: A simple dagger- nothing too fancy.

Appearance:
Uneven hair, up front his long (chin length) with it pushed over his right (our left) eye, there is another tuft of long hair that frames the left side of his face. The back of his head is just short, spiked up/fluffy. His horns sit on the sides of his head and resemble bat wings. Des's typical clothing style falls in line with Visual Kei most of the time! He's pretty much always frowning, might even just look miffed all the time, honestly. He also dyes his hair purple but doesn't always keep up with it-- usually he prefers his hair to start purple then fade to black at the tips.

Home: Des lives just outside New Hemisect City in the awkward zone between actual city limits and the suburb. Deskri’s hive might be considered small for a highblood. He’s stuck to a minimalist aesthetic- with wide open blocks and minimal decor. The color scheme mostly sticks to black, dark gray, and his own shade of purple. It’s not a particularly bright or welcoming hive for outsiders, but he likes it that way.

His personal block is no different- at most, he has a few posters up on the wall or the occasional knick-knack out of place, but he’s not particularly messy. The real mess is in his art block. He doesn’t care what happens in there, so the walls, floors, and even a couple of windows are splattered with paint and ink from projects gone awry.

Lusus: Des’s beloved lusus is a batcat… Catbat… either works. Des just calls him Kitda most of the time. Kitda is not a particularly large lusus, in fact he can comfortably lay across Des’s shoulders if he wants. What he lacks in size, he makes up for in cunning. Kitda is well aware of his charges temper problem, and does his best to help Deskri manage his outbursts. He first introduced Deskri to art in hopes that he could channel his emotions into something creative, rather than risk getting into fights that Kitda wouldn’t be able to save him from.

When out and about, he generally sticks to Des’s side while inside the city. If Des wants to leave, he insists on scouting ahead to check for danger. The two have established that as a mutual agreement- if Kitda thinks it’s too dangerous to proceed, Deskri will turn around. He’ll pout, but he’ll listen.

Not much here in the way of crit! Deskri's lookin' good!

What constitutes "lashing out" for Deskri? Considering his blood color he could get away with a lot. (Granted even the lower castes could get away with decking him if he picked physical fights at random.) How dedicated are his efforts to control his temper, either preemptively or in the moment? Does he still feel vindicated in his anger after the feeling's passed? Considering how much he cares for his friends, is Deskri capable of keeping a calmer head for them? How would he react if he hurt a friend (either literally or metaphorically) in one of his outbursts? Would he be the type of person to ask for help with these kinds of things?

thank you for the crit!!

i've added answers to (hopefully all) of your questions in red. ; D i really appreciate them! hopefully he's a little easier to understand- i have purposely left some room for him to grow with this anger problem of his-i'd like him to come to terms with potentially needing to either sort himself out on his own, or ask for assistance as he gets older.

I think Deskri's looking pretty good! I think what you've added in since Cylem's crit clears up any questions about Deskri and his guilt/frustration with his anger problems. I will sound the gong for the mule!

I think he's ready for a look-over by staff!
