Sometimes, if Dairah was lucky, something else would come up alongside her usual harvests. An unusual herb seemed to have infiltrated her gardens. It smelled nice, it added an intriguing flavor to food, and it could also be made into a whistle! Sort of. It made a weird noise, maybe someone would find it interesting. Seeing such a talented little plant made her happy inside; she would have to figure out how it got into her gardens and try to grow more of it. Alas, since she had yet to find any seeds, the product would be sort of limited edition.

Today, Dairah had added a sign to her cart: "Limited Edition Mintwhistles for Sale! Stock limited, buy now!" She had no idea what the plant was actually called, but Mintwhistles seemed to fit (even if the flavor and scent wasn't exactly mint). A few people had come by to inspect them, and one had even bought a few, but she had hit a sort of lull in customers and was stuck trying to keep Moomoo from eating certain pieces of her stock. It was a bit hard to wrestle her lusus away from the stock and check for customers at the same time, so she was temporarily unaware of anyone who might be walking around the marketplace.

      Mesnei wasn't impressed.

New Hemisect City wasn't really what she was used to— it was far away and not nice looking, but Phelie insisted that Civisect has outlived its charm after the falling space towers. Mesnei had asked to look around and maybe sift through the crushed hives for anything useful, but Phelie was totally against it, frustrating Mesnei to no end. To keep the peace, however, Phelie had offered a shopping spree. Vivisection was out of the question, and the only other (somewhat nice looking) city was... Dirty, stinky New Hemisect.

So far, landewellers were exactly how Phelie described them— Rude, dirty, and extremely unfashionable. Didn't they know sheer was the new in? At least, that was what she'd heard, what Phelie agreed with, and what she felt comfortable with. With her head raised slightly as she clumsily walked past trolls both way taller and way older than she was, Mesnei simply ignored them, walking next to a medium sized amalgam of a lusus. It walked firmly, steadily, proudly— It knew it was better, but looked at the other trolls and lusi straight in the eyes when approached. It was leery, untrusting. Their charge needed to be exposed to the outside world to go places, but they didn't want her to be swayed by the wrong trolls. They'd made one mistake already— They wouldn't make another with her. Occasionally glancing toward Phelie with curious eyes, Mesnei would look around her a little before her gaze snapped back to what was in front of her— She didn't want to disappoint.

It was only when her sight spheres saw the words limited edition that her attention was captured. Mesnei's head snapped over to the cart, staring at it with wide, curious eyes before her entire body veered in the direction of the cart. The seller seemed busy with her lusus, but Mesnei was here and wanted to see her stuff. (Or well, now her stuff, considering) Mesnei looked at Phelie, who looked like they had no qualms with her choice— She only hoped whatever she bought had some sense to buying it.

Mesnei cleared her throat, crossing her arms and tapping her foot. She already seemed impatient. "Excuse me." She snapped, clenching and unclenching her hands eagerly— Only to hear a low, sweet hum that made her tense instantly. Mesnei glanced at Phelie, in tossing her arms and playing with the hem of her dress, still looking at the orange blood as she reeled her anger in somewhat. "What are these?"

The sound of a voice near her cart caught Dairah's attention immediately. She pulled up a little reserve of strength and gave Moomoo a decisive shove away from the stock. Once she got an eyeful of who was waiting to be served, she felt her heart skip a beat. There was a seadweller waiting, and that would not do at all! The highest tier of troll needed to be served promptly and perfectly, lest dissatisfaction end in a culling. Dairah put on her best cheerful smile. "Hello there! I see you've found the mintwhistles! They're an herb that only grows in my garden every once in a while That makes them special. Want to give it a smell? I think that's how you know if you'll like it or not." Cautiously, she picked up one and held it out to the seadweller. She was making sure to give her customer as much choice as possible. This way, if the customer wanted to try it, she could easily take it, but if she didn't, it wasn't totally shoved in her face. Perfect, right?

Mesnei was almost pleased at her reaction toward her, but her lips stayed in a pout. The cheerful smile that came after changed nothing, only the product could catch her attention. She listened to her explain it, hands clenching and unclenching as she watched her lift the herb so she could smell. Phelie walked closer, one of their trunks sliding over and taking a whiff of it before Mesnei did before receiving a nod. Nearing the outstretched arms of the girl, Mesnei took a long, deep smell of the mint whistles before her eyes widened and she looked up at the orange blood. She didn't really know what herbs did, but it smelt great. It smelt natural, and a little bit— Sharp on her nose. "It— It's attacking my sniff node, it—" Mesnei panicked. She'd never really experienced such a nice but strong scent. A softer hum made her relax. Phelie would help her later. She looked up, pursing her lips and uncrossing her arms. "Hmmmph." She took one of them and smelled it again, blinking at it curiously. It was so dainty and simple, so sweet and untouched by any outside force. So innocent. Maybe, because it smelled so good, it would taste good too? She inspected it a bit more before attempting to stuff it in her mouth. Phelie hummed loudly, having watched and guessed her intentions before whacking it out of her hand. A troll like she was could never be watched, eating.

Mesnei flinched and released the flower, feeling her insides tense at her lusi's glare before looking back toward Dairah. "I— How many do you have? They're... really pretty." She seemed quieter, somehow.

Dairah tried not to giggle at the seadweller's very protective lusus. There was business to be done, very crucial business at that. The way the seadweller kept clenching and unclenching her fists made her a bit uneasy; she probably couldn't stand a chance if a fight broke out. She might have flinched just a little when the seadweller mentioned the assault on her sniff node; even if it was the herb attacking her nose and not Dairah herself, it could still be trouble. The tension released some when she tried to eat the herb, only for the lusus to whack it away. "Um, well, if it reassures your lusus any, they add a very nice flavor when you grind them up and sprinkle them on things?" Dairah said with a small giggle. When Mesnei asked how many of the mintwhistles she had, she eyeballed the heap of them and tried to guess. "Hmm... I'd say there's thirty, perhaps? There was a bunch, but not a lot. I guess that's not very helpful... hmm, sorry..." Since eyeballing wasn't helpful, she began to try and count them by hand.

Her hands stayed clenched, feeling tense. Mesnei looked at Phelie almost as if saying see, look, it's not bad, but Phelie did not respond. They merely hummed, and Mesnei looked away quickly, shoulders tight. She felt very indignant. Watching the doe eyed orangeblood stare at her flowers and begin to count, Mesnei rolled her eyes. "Doesn't matter, I will take them all." Mesnei stated, rolling her eyes and grabbing a few more. Phelie watched, gaze piercing, but Mesnei tried not to notice. She knew she was wasting money, but it wasn't like there were any trolls buying them now, and they'd definitely be useful for something, eventually. She pulled them closer, inhaling them carefully this time and enjoying the soft freshness of it. She looked at Dairah with calmer eyes, seeming placated by the sweetness. "How much would they all cost?"

"All of them? R-Really?" Dairah's eyes goggled. While the purchase would net her quite a tidy profit, the idea of having her entire stock of an item bought out by one troll made her uneasy. Then again, saying "no" to a seadweller could result in potentially deadly consequences. Surely, if anyone else had thought about buying the mintwhistles, they would understand that a seadweller was a priority customer. "Um, well... I would say that the whole order would cost fifty beetles. It is a bulk order, after all, so I made some adjustments." The negotiations left her wishing that she had brushed up on Alternian economics and how successful businesstrolls operated bulk discounts.

Mesnei looked back to the flowers, nodding a little and avoiding the leering gaze of the lusus behind her. She reached out for a few more, touching them tenderly-- They were so delicate, so breakable. They didn't want to be pitied, they weren't attempting to be pitiful. They were fighting against all belief, pushing from the ground like mini warriors. They were tender in their own way. Pretty yet fierce, and Mesnei appreciated that. Even though she was nothing like them. She pulled out a small sack of beetles, tossing the tightly wrapped bag onto the cart. "There is a little more than 50 beetles. Keep the change." Phelie hummed a little louder. Mesnei continued to ignore them.

"Do you have anything else?"[ She asked, looking up at her and reaching for the rest of the mintwhistles. Phelie glared at the orangeblood, almost as if saying leave her alone.

"R-really?" Dairah said once more. She picked up the bag of beetles, estimating its weight in her hands, and she guessed that there was indeed more than 50 beetles in there. She would have to count her profits later. In any case, she was goggling at the generosity of her customer. While she knew that seadwellers were naturally rich folks, she didn't think that any of them would hesitate to get out of paying a lowblood full price if they could. "Th... thank you very much for your business!" she stammered out, then looked back at her cart. "Um, well, as for what else... there's some corn and some spices today. I'll have fruit later in the week." She became keenly aware of the lusus's eyes on her, and that made her too uneasy to continue with the list. She hadn't done anything, what was with that look? Then again, this was a seadweller's lusus... she probably didn't even need to do anything.

Mesnei nodded at her thanks, seeming fairly happy at her purchase of said flowers. She didn't need any other lowblooded products, but she definitely wanted to piss Phelie off tonight. "I think I will buy--" A loud snap resounded throughout the area, and the seadweller was shoved away, a few mintwhistles falling out of her hand as she wheezed from the feeling of her breath escaping her. She coughed as a long tendril grabbed onto the seadwellers wrist, tight enough to break it. She struggled to keep the mint whistles in her hand, grabbing them tightly in her other hand as fear struck her insides. She didn't want to get hurt, she didn't want to get hurt, she didn't want pain, no pain, no pain, no-- She relented, struggling to stand up as Phelie began to walk away, most of the mintwhistles crumpled and crushed on the floor. "I-I do not want anything else--" She left without saying goodbye, an abrupt end to what was supposed to be a pleasant outing. Mesnei held onto the last one in her hand. She looked at the brownblood, envying her freedom and feeling her jealous anger clench her aquatic based pump biscuit, swallowing hard. She stumbled behind Phelie, seeming almost a shadow of her proud self as her lusus dragged her behind them. Lifting the flower to her nose, the seadweller found small comfort in that she could at least keep her flowers.

They were small, but they were hers.
