As with most things in Blue's life, the moment they got too intense, he dropped off the face of the earth. Or rather, he either buried himself under ten blankets with his laptop to marathon Star Trek or he went to the dog park with Victor and Trinket. The mist of the early evening glazed the air - ever since he'd come back to Ashdown, the strangeness of the small town had only increased tenfold, somehow merging from quietly quirky to insanely bizarre.

Blue couldn't remember it being like this before, and the added attention from the scientists here didn't do him any good. His coaches were also preaching at him to actually put more effort into his work, his professors were grilling them over roasted pits for midterms, and Blue just did not want to handle it anymore.

The frisbee went lurching through the air, cutting an arc as Trinket burst after it, Victor lumbering in the smaller dogs wake. Not many others seemed out, and Blue could see why. The ground was still wet and pliable, and Blue was going to have to give both dogs a bath tonight or the mud tracks would be awful.

But it was better than dealing with anything else tonight.

Trinket was already rushing back to him, but Victor had stopped at the sight of another human being. The giant pyrenees was already loping in the direction, slowing to a trot to stick his muddy nose against whoever's boots had just entered view.

"Victor!" Blue broke into a jog, sliding a little on the mud, the eskimo dog loping after him loyally. "Victor, stop terrorizing people!"

Poor Jamie. The dog was probably bigger than him too.

For someone his age, Jamie was undeniably small. On the outside he looked frail, fragile, like a single touch could shatter him. When Victor came ambling over, anyone might've thought—had there actually been anyone else around—that he'd bowl the poor kid over and crush him like a paper bag full of nothing but air. Except Jamie was stronger than he looked. Internally and, to be quite honest, externally too.

That and, well, he absolutely had a soft spot for animals. When the gigantic great pyrenees who stood past his waist stopped at his shoes, what he saw was a treasure far before a threat or a nuisance.

"Oh-!" his voice perked up with his expression, "Um, hello there... where did y-?" The question was cut off with Jamie's hands still hovering experimentally over Victor's head. He jumped and his eyes shot forward again, catching sight of the person he could only presume was the dog's owner.

"I-It's okay!" Jamie tried to assure, stuttering habitually and likely not making much of a case with his stiff body language. "H-He's not bothering a-anyone!"

Blue slowed to a trot once he realized Jamie seemed perfectly capable of handling Victor's slobber, and leisurely made his way over with Trinket trotting at his heels, the pinnacle of a perfectly trained dog. His eyes flicked to Jamie and Victor, who had his entire head laid vertical against Jamie's torso.

He might not have been a puppy anymore, but he still had the eyes. It was a nightmare to deal with whenever Blue was making dinner.

His eyes flicked to Jamie's poised hand, hovering above the dogs head.

With an exasperated noise, he pointed out, "You can pet him. He'll be insufferable until you do. He's usually not like this, but we just moved here so he's a bit overzealous around all these new things." Trinket, meanwhile, was perfectly amiable. Blue rolled his eyes.

At least the kid looked his age, if nothing else.

With permission, Jamie all but melted over Victor, hands scrambling against his head with gentle affection. Whispers of good boy accompanied ear scritches as he kept the dog's head square against his stomach, only rolling it the slightest bit for a better shot at his neck and chin. It was obvious Jamie loved animals, or at least that he loved dogs, but truth be told he loved anything that gave him attention and made him feel appreciated.

"I think he's cute," he told Blue without hesitation. Finally his eyes made their way back to the only other human present, though it was hard to split his attention from such a beautiful dog—lovely, yes, even if he was a bit slobbery.

"S-So, um, it's okay. I don't mind. Oh, and welcome to Ashdown, by the way." Too bad he didn't particularly like the idea of welcome anyone to a town like this, a town full of spooks and magic and people dying left and right. "I-I'm... I'm Jamie."
