Drought Updates

To emphasize realism in the pride and the current state the pride is in, starting in the month of October, the pride will be given weekly updates as to how the pride is doing and any events that happen throughout the duration of the drought and herd shortage the pride is currently suffering from.

If you have any questions about the drought or herd shortage, PM myself or Meepfur, post in the chatter thread, or ask in the pride's Skype chat. Otherwise, please do not post in this thread.

Updates will occur every Saturday: 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, etc.

10/1/16 - Update #1

Despite the extremely exciting success of the Qyrhy lionesses' dismantling of the local hyena clan and sending the remains of it running with their tails tucked, the pride's condition is still deteriorating. To help ease the strain two remaining herds that the pride's lionesses can hunt from, some lionesses made the decision to hunt from normally off-limits sources. This hunt, for timeline reasons, occurs after the "Cultural Exchange" ORP.

While hunting a water buffalo, the following events occurred:
Nolaka -- owned by Meepfur -- died, gored by a horn
Emeka -- owned by oo DeD -- suffered severe injuries, is now missing left hind leg
Udaka -- owned by SilverLutz -- suffered major injuries, is now blind in right eye
Inkungu -- owned by Annchen -- suffered minor injuries, sprained paw
Kokulzawa -- owned by Syrius Lionwing -- suffered minor injuries, sprained paw

The water buffalo was successfully brought down, giving the pride something to eat on for now.
It should be noted that Umholi Bangizwe is letting lionesses and even Lusizi eat before him.

10/17/16 - Update #2 & #3

Water rationing is now in effect.

Each member is now given three minutes, twice a day, to drink. Members of the pride must approach water carefully and with at least three others in case of any confrontation with other resident animals who may also be drinking--not so subtly in case of rogues who slip through. The Abaholi, along with the backing of some concerned Abazingeli, have always put in place a no-hunt zone around the remaining water sources in hopes of saving what herds they do have left from leaving. This, of course, may not sit well with everyone, but with only two herds to hunt from; one zebra, one gazelle, the pride is desperate to keep them.

Additionally, Cinga now patrol in eight hour shifts, with at least two lions tracking (even protecting) the two remaining herds and searching for alternative water sources.

Prompts
(Anyone) Bangizwe is now spending nearly all of his time beside Andhaka. The two only seem to be apart when Andhaka has enough of the other golden male's company. Additionally, the Umholi has been seen waking in the middle of the night rather suddenly, quite obviously the result of a nightmare. The severe lack of sleep had lead the older Umholi to nap at unexpected times, though the bags under his eyes are as much a cause for concern as his lack of appetite is. Some rather grim lionesses think he may be dying.

(Adults/Adols) Rumors have begun spreading surrounding the idea of moving the pride however the Aenda have reported that much of the bordering lands are just as desperate for water as their current territory is, some even worse off. Moving the pride would likely result in the death of too many to risk it without water sources being located beforehand, none of which have been found within a suitable distance for expectant mothers and young cubs.

Week #2
While some lionesses opted to eat from the hyenas the new arrivals provided, there were still some that turned their noses up at the idea. Hunts, as a result, are proving dangerous, not because of aggressive prey, but because of desperation.

While hunting a zebra, the following events occurred:
Eowyn -- owned by Excited Apathy -- suffered major injures, broken ribs from a kick
Yimvelo -- owned by AstoriaFallen -- suffered minor injures, part of left ear torn by zebra
Nomvula -- owned by belloblossom -- suffered minor injuries, sprained paw
Schatzi -- owned by SilverLutz -- suffered minor injuries, sore from tripping

Week #3
During a scheduled drink, a crocodile was found to have taken residence in one of the remaining water sources. Kuhasa was brought in to shoo the reptile out of the water so the lionesses could safely drink. It didn't go well. While, in the end, the crocodile did eventually leave, it was not without a fight that left all four present with scars to remember it by.

While trying to get the crocodile to move, the following events occurred:
Kuhasa -- owned by Ecavi -- suffered major injuries, now walks with a slight limp in left foreleg
Isasa'ikungu -- owned by Andranis -- suffered major injuries, now missing part of her tail (up to you how much)
Khethiwe -- owned by Tanakako -- suffered minor injuries, bites on paw (will scar)
Uthuli -- owned by CaliWolfe -- suffered minor injuries, bites on paw (will scar)

10/24/16 - Update #4

Nothing changed and nothing really exciting happened this week except...

A New Rank!

Imbiza | (pl. Imbiza) - Herbalists
An old tradition that is making a return, Imbiza are the healers of the pride. Well known for their skills with identifying useful plants and animal parts that can be used to remedy a variety of pains, ills and more. This rank mostly consists of elderly lionesses or those who can no longer hunt due to a multitude of reasons. The rank, though traditionally female, can be taken by male lions as well, though they still need to take an oath of celibacy.
Rank Availability: Open, but requires at least 1 completed RP/SRP to prove their healing (or lack there-of) knowledge.

This rank is not event based and will be joining permanently as a genderless rank!

Week #4
Everyone made it through the week with nothing horrible happening! GG EZ

11/1/16 - Update #5

It was quiet. An omen for the coming day. The sky grew gray early, night had not fallen in through cracks in the clouds you could still see the sun. Thunder echoed dangerously overhead and lightning snapped high above, illuminating the dark day. Graceful, but deadly, lightning arced downward and set the grass ablaze. The ground like tinder fueled the blaze until it grew into an unstoppable inferno.

From a distance, the main pride could see the glow and could hear the horrific cries of the zebra that fled for their lives. They knew they had lionesses over there, hunting on what remained. Some opted to head over, to try and help in whatever way they could, but some chose to stay, unable to endure the heat or unwilling to risk their lives on a hope.

The sky broke open and rain fell for the first time in what felt like forever. The ground drank, dry rivers flowed for the first time in months, and pride watched the smoke billow, barely visible except when the flashes of lightning lit up the background. The glow eventually died as the wind carried the dying embers to greet the pride that hadn't even finished mourning Nolaka.

Water!
It's rained! Hurray! Water isn't nearly as scarce, but rationing it still relatively in effect until they can be certain the rains will last or if this is just a passing storm. So far it seems as though it will be the latter. The ground is slick, muddy, vultures prowl the skies, searching for stuck prey--and cubs are one of their favorite meals--while crocodiles patrol the waterways. Luckily for the pride one of their Inselele has given them a safe place to drink from for the time being.

Fire!
Following the fire, a good chunk of the northern territory is nothing but the charred remains of burned brush, wildlife caught in the inferno and ash. With death comes life. While the ground still smolders and embers are still carried into the wind, life is already being renewed. Small bits of green have begun to sprout in this territory. Lionesses have begun to pick the area, looking for anything edible that might remain from the zebra the fires took, or really anything else.

Week #5
The remaining zebra herd, nearby when the first lightning strike occurred, panicked, descended into madness and quickly morphing into a deadly stampede that very nearly claimed the lives of the lionesses that had been hunting them when the flames began to grow. In the chaos that followed, Umthunzi was lost to the other three lionesses. [A Fiery Goodbye]

Umthunzi -- owned by Quaji -- assumed dead, trampled to the ground and lost in the chaos that ensued
Tawa'shilah -- owned by SilverLutz -- suffered major injuries, burns received trying to find Umthunzi, severity and placement up to you
Siantaidh -- owned by Meepfur -- suffered minor injuries, cuts and/or burns, severity up to you
Sobala -- owned by Tanakako -- suffered minor injuries, cuts and/or burns, severity up to you
Jagazi -- owned by Annchen -- suffered minor injuries, cuts and/or burns, severity up to you

11/21/16 - Update #6

The rains have stuck around! Though the showers are sporadic at best, they've been consistent and the ground is recovering. Riverbeds have begun to refill, the grass has regrown in a dramatic fashion. Wildflowers can now be found quite easily, along with other insects that normally would not be present, such as bees and butterflies. There has been talk spreading of an Inqina being hosted soon.

A new herd has arrived A rather large group of wildebeest has moved in, dominating the horizon daily. With healthy numbers, hunting from this herd has become the norm to allow the resident herds an ample amount of time to recover their numbers after shrinking dangerously low to the intense pressure the pride put on them. Some lionesses have begun reporting seeing a white figure near the middle of the wildebeest herd. No one has gotten a good look at it, but it looks out of place. Talk of a possible Mkhulu to hunt for the white beast has begun to spread.

A vulture nest was spotted by a cinga during a scouting trip before the rains came and reported several eggs in the nest. Seven to be exact. The mother was still around, which was a good sign! So a vulture hatching is expected in the future as the pride keeps an eye on the nest.

The pride, with the good fortune that luck is providing them now, is no longer considering moving, though there is still talk of following the wildebeest once they begin to move through the Ithambo territory. Until then, mothers are still encouraged to keep an eye on their cubs as snakes, mud and water can all still prove dangerous to the young lions. With the boom of cubs that came with the drought (lol), three tiny lions were mixed in, given to another lioness to care for, their rogue mother apparently having died attempting to bring them to the pride. Though they resemble their father, Bangizwe, they're rather smaller than norm. OOC Note: The pride now has their first real hybrids living amongst them, three little cheeton girls! Luckily they seem to resemble their father, Bangizwe, more than their cheetah mother and will be able to blend in as smaller lionesses. This is a formal note that no one in the pride is to know their true bloodline.
