"The local bookstore, Bibliophile, also holds many books that might be able to help you. Especially if you ask the owner to look into something for you." Jeremiah already had noticed the books that were there in Kaleb's bag and he was quite used to the sight. After all, his adopted son usually had at least two on him at any time and spent most of his time doing research.

Hellbine let out a mew when he was spoken to again. The small white cat stretched out, paws kneading Kaleb's thigh for a moment, before he hopped down to the ground. There was a patch of dirt between the stones and he pawed at it a couple times, head leaning down and nose pressing to it. He sat back on his legs, prim and proper, as a daisy began to sprout and grow to full bloom.

Kaleb nodded doubtfully. He could probably ask Nathaniel about the book store and where to find it, but it might just be impossible for someone as shy as himself to follow up on this obscure topic. Ask a bookstore owner for something about magic? He might as well make plans to go to a bar afterwards and chat up some girls. Oh well, maybe he could find something quietly on his own, as he usually did...

When the plant began to grow right where Hellbine had nosed the ground, his social anxiety was put out of mind for the time being. "Wow, that's pretty amazing," he complimented the cat with a smile. "But that's not cuscuta, you can do other plants too?"

Hellbine pawed at the ground, the daisy retreating back into the earth and he sat there where it had once been. There was a prim meow from him. It was another yes.

"... he's not actually supposed to be growing that," Jeremiah huffed, "as it's invasive and dangerous. When he was a kitten it grew whenever he purred. Now he's some measure of control over it or so it appears."

Don't think that he had not very sternly talked to his familiar about not growing things that will kill my garden.

"Wow," Kaleb murmured, still watching the very intelligent cat. "At least he can... uh, put it back?" He suggested in a distracted way, before his attention went back to Hellbine. Somehow the vines had just retreated, they didn't die or anything, they just... went away. It was fascinating.

"Can you do more than flowering plants? What about conifers? Or mosses?" Kaleb asked the cat, his enthusiasm for knowledge growing as he considered the diversity of the plant kingdom.

"He couldn't when he was a kitten," Jeremiah replied with ease, "which was not something easily dealt with if you know anything about cuscuta." The detective had gotten rid of it but it had not been easy.

The small cat blinked a bit at Kaleb, seemingly shaking his head about conifers. At least he hadn't try but the other- Hellbine pawed at the ground again, a soft moss starting to spread that contained little white flowers in it.

"Oh ..." The detective smiled a little, just a slight twitch upwards of the corner of his mouth. "His sister grows that when she purrs."

Kaleb's face lit up with a genuine smile. "That's really amazing," He exclaimed, the simple impossibility of the situation making it easier to be swept up in the experience, rather than getting stuck in his own head. It was rare for him to engage so thoroughly in a conversation with someone else, but the detective's patience with his questions, and almost imperceptible smiles, went a long way with the shy student.

The mention of a second plant-cat brought more impossible thoughts to mind. "Does she also... uh, tend to wander?" Kaleb asked hesitantly, hoping perhaps he might see the other cat in action someday.

"No," Jeremiah chuckled, "but if you want to see here someday, you can. The bookstore near the college? Bibliophile? My husband owns it and Violetta, Hellbine's sister, is often with him if he's working and not teaching at the college."

His fingers crooked for Hellbine and the small cat nudged at the moss before it started to disappear. Once it was gone, Hellbine was hopping up onto Jeremiah's lap and then up to his shoulders where he promptly stretched himself out to lay there.

The book store was sounding more and more like somewhere Kaleb needed to visit, even if he didn't have the courage to actually ask about books on magical stuff. Then again, if he was too nervous to ask the owner, perhaps he could ask the cat for help.

"Thank you, for telling me all of this," Kaleb said meekly, suddenly returning to the shy demeanor he usually presented to the world. Jeremiah had done him a huge favour in talking him through the mysteries of the day. At least he could be reasonably sure he wasn't going crazy, or suffering from stress-induced delusions. Still, it was a lot to take in.

"It isn't far," Jeremiah said while he was petting his fingers along Hellbine's fur, "but I can walk with you there and you can see it's location? You don't obviously have to go in now but knowing where it's at can be helpful." As he could read the shyness on Kaleb and sometimes it was good to give a little nudge.

"... no thanks necessary either." There was a small warm, friendly smile on his lips. "I know it can be a little overwhelming to run into magic for the first time." Pushing himself up to stand, he inclined his head towards Kaleb.

It would be a short trip but at least, he thought, it would help the young man out and Jeremiah would know he was pointed in the right direction.
