Leeroi could glare all he want, but Guo didn't care a single bit. What he did, do, though, was take a hot second to pull one more thing out and put it in Leeroi's good hand. The ramen brick he had brought along. "It'll keep you from screaming too much. You're strong, bro, but no one's strong enough to take this kinda thing quietly."

But now there was no more time to waste. If Leeroi decided to be too proud to put something in his mouth, it wouldn't be worth it to dicker. Guo laid a hand on Leeroi's shoulder. The other hand held the knife. He placed it a bit higher than the infection, leaving plenty of room for it to spread if need be. Something told him they'd need that time.

"We'll get him for this," he promised, eyes focused on the task at hand.

He let the tip of the blade tap Leeroi's skin before taking it away and jabbing it in as hard as he could and started sawing.

Trying his best to be still, Leeroi still shook under Guo's grasp. It was unconscious, in every second the blueblood felt his body failing him more. While Leeroi was typically a bundle of nerves, in this moment he felt himself fizzling out, and that almost frightened him more than anything he felt earlier that night.

"I'll kill him," He said to Guo, his voice a whisper, but still full of confidence. He would find Gangrene again. He would do something about this criminal, for everything he sacrificed tonight. Justice would be served, even if it took longer than Leeroi had the patience for.

When Guo's knife cut in, Leeroi thrashed, nearly punching Guouli off of him with his good arm. Instead, the blueblood grabbed hold of his friend's jacket, furling it and unfurling his fist, clenching the fabric between his fingers. The ramen brick was helpful in muffling Leeroi's cries, and probably saved his voice. Surprisingly, it was sturdy enough that the blueblood's teeth didn't snap it in two partway through the process.

A crying, blubbering mess, Leeroi collapsed from Guo's hold and laid flat on the salt cave floor. He fought to keep himself grounded, tried to make sense of everything. His arm was gone, just like that. It was no longer a part of him, it was no longer his. He couldn't stand the idea of looking at it. Instead, his attention flitted between the glittering salt and the stitches of Guouli's clothes.

"I wanna go home," Leeroi admitted, bitter and defeated.

Guouli had to do something about the stump before Leeroi slipped away. He tore some of the fabric from his own shirt, and wrapped it the best he could. Leeroi collapsed, but he was still awake. Then, while there was something left of an arm on the ground, Guo took a moment to pull out his camera and take another photo. Evidence. A before and after. A...something. He'd figure it out later.

He tilted his head as Leeroi whined something out. In response, Guouli put everything away. The camera, new photo, packaged ramen. He wiped off his knife then put it on his belt. Guouli didn't smile, nor did his eyes sparkle with the usual tomfoolery. His gaze was somewhat stern, and he felt rather hollow inside. Still in something of a trance. Reality, at this point, was a bit of a myth.

As out of it as he was, he leaned down to help his friend up. "Yeah, let's go."

The trip home wasn't easy for Leeroi, but arriving before his lusus was even harder. He had no way to disguise what had happened to him, nor did he have the energy to try. Glitch, understandably, was horrified at her charge's state. But her fleeting feeling of anger and disappointment was quickly replaced with doting and gentle care. She treated his wounds, swaddled him in thick blankets, and per his request, released the gerbils so they could roam and cuddle around him.

It didn't take long for Leeroi to pass out. It was a long time before he woke up, though. Sore and in pain, he hardly moved from his recuperacoon for days. When he finally gathered the strength to even play a video game, he had the bitter realization that it was impossible without his second hand.

Leeroi fell back into a quiet state. Ignoring his lusus' suggestions, he refused to commission a robotic arm from a specialist. The boy hardly wanted to leave the hive, ashamed at his state, fearful that people would ask for the story behind his loss. He just wouldn't be capable of lying. His failure was as plain as it could physically be.

His attention slowly turned to his engineering books, and to his gerbils. When he reached the realization that he could construct an arm on his own, he nearly cried. Begging his lusus for the parts, he got to work immediately on the project. His work was clumsy, but that was unavoidable. Gangrene had taken his dominant arm, and only having his non-dominant hand to work with was difficult for the blueblood.

Building and testing over the course of weeks, Leeroi found himself with a semi-functional claw arm, and he was over the moons with pride. It was messy and grungy and didn't have a typical hand, but it was his, and his designs could only get better from here.

For the first time in weeks, Leeroi left his hive. Guo just had to be the first to see.
